Weeks spent above Liverpool in 2012?

 Comments (17) jump to end

A few questions for one of you who is keen on recording club history:

How many weeks have we been above Liverpool FC this year?

When was the last time that was achieved?

Are we approaching a year yet?

Thanks

For once they're obsessing about us, let's leave it that way.....

Agreed James, this serves no useful purpose.

Did we achieve anything tangible for this?
Did we reach a Cup Final?
Did we win a Derby?

Bill Kenwright may think it's more important to out do LFC; I don't.

This is a bit of an irrelevant stat, but it is less irrelevant than Patrick's comment regarding winning a derby is. I'd rather lose two derbies to Liverpool, and finish above them, than win both, and finish below. We get more money for finishing above, and the final league position is an illustration that we were superior over the course of a season, not two matches.

But we need to disregard Liverpool... our competitors are Spurs and Arsenal for fourth place.

Answered part of my own question — as far as I can work out we have been above RS since Saturday 31 March 2012 — 9 months (40 weeks).

I would agree that this is not something to boast about, but it is a measure of our relative progress (and their demise) and has been inspired by Rafa Beneathus' forthcoming visit.

In 2004-05 we moved above Liverpool on 28 August 2004 and as far as I can remember we stayed above them till 13 August 2005 – 50 weeks. So, as far as this run is concerned, we will not be breaking new ground for the Premier League until end of March 2013.

As has been mentioned it's more about London and Manchester for me than Liverpool. We need to get and stay ahead of Spurs, Arsenal and ideally Chelsea and close up on Man Utd and Man City, not worry about where the RS are languishing.

Are people counting the close season?!? Takes it to a whole new level of ridiculous.

Liverpool are still in the Premier League are they?

Actually, just looked at the fixture list for the second half of the season. Very unlikely, but how good would it be to beat them at Anfield in the first week of May, and then at Wembly the following Saturday?

No, would not want them anywhere near any cup final!

Congrats, must be the biggest waste of time and space I have witnessed this Christmas.

And I have to put up with Australians.....

Gerry, that's why I said unlikely. They will do extremely well to get past the 4th round. But to BEAT them in the final, say 4-0... how nice would that be to cap off the season?

Is this a real post? No wonder we are being accused more and more of being small time if this is how we measure success. Don't get me wrong — it's nice to be above em, but FFS let's show some class!

I'm not being funny but this kind of thing is why they take the piss out of us.

Very, very small-time mentality.

Agree with Lee #913
we can do better than this - weare not in their shadow. For the moment we should be more concered about Arsenal, Spurs, Chelsea.
