Once a Blue, always a Blue?

 Comments (47) jump to end

Moyes has to leave us at some point. Managers will come and go – some posters have been calling for big Dunc to take the helm.

Much as I hate his RS credentials, Jamie Carragher was once a Blue and has many of the attributes of Duncan Ferguson... could he be a blue again? Could he be a future manager for us?

I know Hereford is a dump and we're not playing today, Jim, and you might have some time on your hands, but this is silly and shite and a waste of time. You are surely not a Scouser.

Knobhead Carragher is RedShite through and through from head to toe, diseased, dirty, cancerous, infected, and counts SewerRat as a chum.

On a more pragmatic note, I don't want another central defender as the gaffer.

How can he claim to have ever been a Blue, for God's sake he plays for the Red Shite, shows what he truly was. I'd chop my own foot off before playing for the Red Scum.

He's been with the Dark Side since he was nine years of age, so how can he possibly claim to be a Blue.

Future manager? That's the day I start AFC Everton. Maybe we could play at Anfield.

Yes, John... you may have noticed, we don't play until tomorrow.

I thought there had been some brainless chatter about this on t'interweb last week that we resolutely ignored... Guess I felt that, if someone really wanted to broach such a ridiculous thought in the mailbag, then I could let it air and see what the reaction was.

Glad you lot have not disappointed!

But don't forget what 'Blue' Bill's favourite song of all time is... I wouldn't put anything past him!

Carragher as manager! What next, Gerrard as his assistant.....

On a more serious note I think Moyes's replacement will be Martinez from Wigan. I think he's the kind of guy who could really do something with our squad of players.

I would rather have Pip Neville take over than Carragher, to be honest. Neville has worn the Royal Blue shirt proudly and been Captain of EFC for many years, worked under 2 of the best managers of the Premier League (cough.... the other one is David Moyes..:-)...), has won the league title multiple times, is an honourable man and understands the constraints under which he would have to work at this club very well.

I'm with Ajay on this regarding Neville, however, Roy Evans was interviewed on the radio the other day and said that Carragher was proud to be a Blue and always asked how we got on. And he wasn't a 9 year old at that time. Just saying, like...

I however, think Phil Neville is an arsehole.

Regardless of him playing for the RS Carragher was a big Blue and a mates son knows him well and he still looks for our scores and still takes stick at training.

I think you'll find after he retires he'll do a McManaman and show up when he can at Goodison Park.

This thread finally answers the Moyes supporters who ask "who could do a better job?" To be honest, it never occurred to me but, all along, the answer was on our doorstep. Moyes out Carragher in.

I cannot understand how a Blue can play in red. The thought is revolting. Obviously reds see the light and turn to the righteous path but there is something seriously lacking when you play for that bunch of insidious shysters.

Carragher or Duncan Ferguson? hahahahahahahhaahahahahahahahah

Both ridiculous suggestions. Yard Dogs tactically, but would pump up the Dressing Room for a while I suppose.

I know, how about a Michael Owen / Mick Madar Dream team? One was an Evertonian as a boy and the other scored a few goals in the 90's with issues concerning a lack of self-discipline, but the Street End thought he was ok. Sound familiar ?

Oh fuck, Jim... what have you been drinking, pal? Carragher?!? Is this the same arsehole who celebrates on the Goodison pitch like there's no tomorrow when they've beat us?

He's no blue and what's all that shite about he looks for our results first absolute bollocks. Goodison Park would be empty if that red bastard ever took over at Everton, believe me. Never read so much nonsense in my life.

Back in 1977, when the shite won the European Cup, I flirted with the idea of switching my allegiance to the dark side. This thought lasted for a few days and then a trip to the priest to confess my sins. My penance is three Hail Marys for the rest of my life just prior to kick off.

The thought of JC at Everton is totally abhorent. I suggest you go and seek out a priest or at least wash your mouth out with a bar of Lifebouy. Arrgggg.

David Donnellan
906 Posted 10/02/2013 at 09:16:06
He may have been a blue once upon a time, he certainly isn't now. As Andy has mentioned, he celebrates like a loon when they have beaten us.
He is second in the red shite appearance list, he has well and truly had any blue taken out of him. Red through and through, make no mistake.
Even if he wasn't a red, hes not ready to finish playing & walk straight into a big job at our great club.
Over the last 10-15 years both Carragher & Gerrard have been the figure heads of that club, everything we blues despise, it would be rubbing our noses in it, were he ever to sit in the dugout.

Jim, are you on crack? We shouldn't be interested in either of these as they haven't proved themselves at any level of management. If our own fanbase slag off the idea of having certain Premier League managers as a replacement for Moyes but entertain the thought of ex-players with no experience just because they happen to've played for the club then we are well and truly fucked. I hope we replace Moyes with an attacking, forward-thinking manager who will give the youth a chance.

Fellaini will be gone in the summer but it doesn't have to be all doom and gloom. We could get £30M for him and if that money is made available for transfers it could be a carrot for any potential managerial targets. I would let Moyes go and approach Laudrup with the promise of the Fellaini money; he might not be interested but to be given time in the new job would also be appealing to most managers. The sad thing for me though is that Moyes will not go, I'm 100% sure about that.

C'mon gents great players don't always translate to great managers, look at Alan Ball at one end of the spectrum and the special on at the other. In addition it doesn't really matter who the manager played for or who he supported as a boy.

All's I want from players and managers is to give their all for the cause; and as for Carragher, it's a pity that the traditional route of players dropping down a league or two and try their hand as a player-manager has gone out of fashion because it’s a great apprenticeship and it shows that a manager can actually manage without being able to spend their way to success

Sounds like everyone has accepted that the present manager is going, which he definitely is. What no contract talks? What a surprise. Just need to get rid of our crap board next. Bit more difficult. Kenshite obviously has no intentions of selling or going.

934 Posted 10/02/2013 at 12:56:57
Never rated him as a player, thought he was okay and average, but will accept he always gave 100% All the fuss over his retirement is incredible and I am sure when hibbert does the same he will only get a couple of column inches. As for manager no chance and looking for our results .... I sometimes look for the red shite results first (as usually at the game and so know ours) and this definitely does not make me a scumbag. I just get increased satisfaction or reduced misery if I know they have lost.

Carragher would be a rookie and would have to start his trade in the lower ranks unless RS gave hin some kind of post. I would consider Brian Kidd,Joe Jordan,Peter Reid or Joe Royle who have all got bags of experience or but maybe they are all getting too long in the tooth.

Erm, no! Ridiculous idea and about as likely as big Dunc taking over management of the RS.

On another note – we are not a small club so I would hope that whoever takes over from Moyes at least has SOME experience of managing a large football club. We're not a club for wannabe managers to cut their teeth on.

And that includes bloody Phil Neville – future Everton manager? No fucking way!

I believe that Rafa will be available come season's end. Perhaps young Jamie,as an assistant, could learn at the feet of the master how to manage a small club before advancing to the higher life?

I think the Jamie Carragher issue has been done to death on here.

However, I want to take issue with the suggestion that Duncan Ferguson take over as manager.

He seems to have cult status among many Evertonians. I can't for the life of me understand why. Amassing, was it, 13 red cards, a criminal record and beating up some burglars didnt make him a great player, more a liability, and we won the cup in 95 despite him not because of him. He has recently been managing one of the junior sides. And untilI see a major success story both in the results attained and the quality of football played, I see no reason why he should be even considered.

I'd have Stubbs or Neville ahead of Carragher.

Actually, I'd have my 3 year old nephew ahead of Carragher - and he is a Man United fan!!

Who ever takes over the reins IF Moyes decides to leave, must have a CV that can point to experience and success at the highest level. Martinez is under no pressure and no illusion as manager at Wigan. His job is to keep Wigan in the EPL. That is not good enough to be a manager at Everton. 4 th spot is where Evertonians want to be at this moment. Not languishing where Wigan are.

I've read bits of his book and have no problem with Carragher criticising that disgusting 'babys not yours' chant. My problem was he tried to make out we all sing it instead of just our dickhead element.

As for being our manager. No thanks.

Eugene Ruane

Ste (304) my problem with him criticising "the baby's not yours' chant is it's ridiculously selective.

You're right (like the murderers chant), it IS one that is very popular with our dickhead element (I wince when I hear either)

But by him not giving equal weight/criticism to some of the poison spewed by the hilarious, quick-witted, good humoured kop, it is disingenuous therefore imo, void (consequently, he can fuck off).

Was he appalled by reds spitting at Phil Neville?

Or chants about Carsley's kid?

Maybe my problem is a long memory

During the 70s, Garth Crooks had the the entire Kop waving their hands (Jolson-style) at him and informing him he should 'get back on the jam-jar'.

As soon as they signed John Barnes however, they all became like the Rev. Al Sharpton.

For years, Man Utd showing up at Anfield guaranteed thousands on the Kop 'giving it the wings' and singing about Munich.

After Hillsborough of course, that all changed.

So fuck him/them and his/their 'sensitivity' - if it only goes one way, it's simply bullshit point-scoring.
