When was your first time?!

 Comments (20) jump to end

It's late Saturday night, and probably the Jack Daniels talking (after the Oldham game) and I'm chilled, but when was your first time coming onto ToffeeWeb?

What game, situation, or something someone said made you feel the need to come on here?

For me it was after a defeat (obviously, you know me by now) but I went onto BlueKipper one night before coming on here and I couldn't believe all the toe-the-party-line shite on there.

So, when was your first time?

Strange as it may seem my first contribution many years ago was entitled"Does Toffeeweb Matter"?. I was actually concerned that the site might be visited I by some of the players who would be affected and upset by negative comments. How innocent I must have been.

Don't remember off the top of my head Brian but what I do know is that it has kept me sane, pissed me off, made me happy and had me crying with laughter.
As some old sage said long before I was a twinkle in my fathers eye - it is a game of opinions. And we get some opinions on this site.
I love Tony Marsh I think we are probably the same age. But Doddy grew on me just for his sheer passio to defend his corner (that's what makes us blue) and I would class everyone on this site as a friend.
I love coming on when I have had a few and I know I am spouting shit but don't we all, but it gives me a feeling of being back in L4 on a cold miserable wet day on county road after we have just drawn with Wigan. Who else do you share your opinion with who could honestly understand what it means to be blue.
I live in Nairobi now, watch every game on tv and am usually half cut due to the time difference but it really does give me a feel for home. I only get home every 4-5 months so this keeps it real.
Don't know what I would do without it.

See where your coming from, Andy. IMO, years ago sites like this would have mattered, in regards to players having a look; I could imagine Peter Reid looking to see what we thought of him. The money that's involved in the game this day and age though, players couldn't give a fuck what we thought of them.

The only player to make me think that we mattered was Tim Cahill. My lad has his book where you could put your name in and you played alongside Cahill, you inserted your lad's name in the book and they sent it to you.

Tim was getting off one day after a game, he had signed loads of autographs, and was walking away, he spotted my little lad waving his book and came right over, had a chat with us (even though his missus was giving him grief) and signed his book. They were the days.

Paul, it's all part of the service, mate... ha ha!

I came on here first at the start of the 2005 season after someone mentioned it at the match. I don't go on Bluekipper — it's too lovey dovey with no cutting edge. The lads who run it are good Evertonians but they don't want to rock the boat. They get players and Everton officals turning up at their presentation nights (or whatever they call it).

This site is like no other and I don't know how the guys who run it keep so up to date so quickly. There are so many threads a day that they deal with, I take my hat off to them. The likes of yourselves and many others who work or live abroad it must be a God send for you. I mean where else would you be kept in the picture with such a broad spectrum of opinions and so many hilarious posters... TalkSport Radio???

That's the thing Paul, even though your miles away, with ToffeeWeb, you can still join in and feel a part of what's going on.

It's my first post although I have been reading the site for many years.

I do agree that Mr Kenwright has long pockets and short arms.

Having viewed the site for many years, albeit biting my tongue, I do agree the board appear to have long pockets and short arms.

I'd like to jump in here and echo Tony (946) about Lyndon and Michael and their stellar contribution to all things blue.

I also want to express my disappointment that Brian lives in the posh Surrey suburbs: I had him nailed down for Edge Hill or Seaforth given his always sparky and interesting points of view. Capitalist Waring, you tread on the bones of the workers and eat their flesh.

Can't remember, but I think I started on ToffeeNet, and ToffeeWeb is kind of the bastard off-spring of that if I haven't fudged the facts.

ToffeeNet produced these t-shirts with the logo on them - Rupert's Tower embedded within the letter "T". And that was what you looked for if you went to a pub to meet up with some before/after an away game.

Not sure that could/should happen with some of the entrenched views on here now. It'd be a riot, with or without a Hibbo goal.

I got bored with cheese and tattoos on blue slipper a couple of years ago and have been on here since, only just joined though.

I think I logged on for the first time when I moved to Eugene, Oregon, USA, about 6 years ago. My way of trying to keep in touch. I complain and such but it is a contact that is important to me. Thanks. COYB.

I was sitting in GCSE Music in year 10 and was bored of Blue Kipper thinking calling Lescott "Roger" or something was the height of hilarity. Somehow found my way here.

Must be about 8 -10 years or more? Used to go on blue kipper a lot and even got a quote published in their book but just could not stand the arse licking on there anymore. Have never gone back and never will, they are the independent mouthpiece of the club.

Can't remember now, I recall people being in high dudgeon at the suggestion that we weren't challengers anymore (the very idea) I'm sure one piece was titled "is 6th the new first?"

The excuse for everything was money, from Moyes continually buying defenders to playing one up front to hoofball. People who defended Moyes back then were not only rabid but plentiful one lad used "the crowd support Moyes" argument.

I got banned for referring to the dubious wisdom of crowds ... talking about Adolf and his adoring rallies upset some I believe.

Must have been a good ten years ago or more, though maybe my memory isn't all that (username was Danger Dunc back then, but either lost my password or got expelled for something!). I think it was from someone at the Westcountry supporters club that mentioned TW.

I don't contribute all that much now, but still look in every day... there are a few names that aren't here any more (unless I've missed them). What happened to Ciaran McSomething?.... the fella that wound everyone up!

Site full of nutters...I fitted right in.

I am suprised at how few posters this thread has had! Can't remember when I first found toffeeweb, been banned for not agreeing with some, but have almost always enjoyed the banter and variety of opinion. There are some real fantasists on here who make it so enjoyable and keep it real.

(Brian, I went to Wokingham once about 20 years ago, played cricket for them. My brother Cranners lives in Richmond now, but played cricket there for years and I got invited to play for them. Bouncy wicket as I remember).

I too cut my teeth on Bluekipper before growing out of it a few years ago - the average age back in 2009 must have been pretty low and at times it felt like I was back in the schoolyard in the 60s/70s. At least the name-calling here is slightly more mature though a working memory of about six months is common to both.

The matchday forum is fun though comments usually bear little resemblance to the match!

We have quite a few considered writers here too, many with a real talent for the written word. No forgetting the small band of obsessives that make the rest of us feel fairly normal. I would echo the compliments to the editors – it isn't easy to keep a site like this so up to date and they do a terrific job.
