A fine state of affairs

 Comments (14) jump to end

Reading the comments on the various threads this weekend... they are interesting. One thing I can see is supporters fighting between themselves which is bad news. Saturday was bad; the bad thing about it was it was expected. It's sad how, since Christmas, the hope has gone.

In reality, let's look at it, we are 6th and got a great chance of Wembley. If we had won yesterday, we would've been 4 points behind Chelsea, that's the up side.

Some comments on here have a lot of truth: Jags cant pass a ball; Pienaar's form has been a shadow of last season; for me, Fellaini has been off-form since Christmas and looks like a player who will not be at Goodison Park next year. Moyes and players have to be responsible for this.

I personally think it's sad the stick Moyes is getting. I am by no means a 'Moyes out' or 'Moyes is everything' fan; when he messes up he is responsible.

I think his contract talks are having a bad effect, it's certainly split the fans. What's sad is Moyes should be remembered for the great job he's done. The fantastic times he's brought the great players we've seen, namely Arteta, Pienaar, Cahill, Lescott, the Yak (before the injury) etc.

For me there is one group to blame and ultimately one Name: KENWRIGHT AND THE BOARD.

Yes, Moyes does look like leaving — and it is in danger of collapsing the club... but ultimately, the board have allowed this situation to happen. I respect Kenwright in some ways, but he has failed.

All the fans slagging Moyes off — look at the facts: in Moyes's 11 years, he's spent a net of around £500k-£1M person. In the 11 years he's not developed the ground or got anything in the pipeline in terms of a new ground. He's not had a real offer for the club or got anywhere near selling it.

Forget the crap about Portsmouth and Birmingham, look at Spurs and even the likes of Liverpool who did have money to go after the league, or Aston villa who backed O'Neil with money at the start.

The sad fact about Everton at the moment is Moyes has got us on the brink of something several times and not been backed. He never spent money for three summers on the spin – we only got Mirallas after selling Rodwell. The money that man has made the club is unbelievable, yet the board take, take and fucking take. Season tickets being sold earlier and earlier, before any the summer transfer window has opened

Does anyone on here really believe those bids in January were serious?? Because our manager obviously doesn't. Who can blame Moyes for wanting answers? The silence from Kenwright is deafening.

Neville Southall is correct in saying the board should've bought three new players to lift the team, like last year. If we really were serious, we would've had the business done early and not tried so pathetically in the last 24 hours. Mike Ashley did all Newcastle's business early... Why couldn't we?

I'm sorry, fellow blues for the length of this rant: everyone who pays to watch Everton has the right to state their opinion, whether it be Moyes Out, Kenwright Out or Moyes In and Kenwright In. The fact is, those at the club will carry on if Moyes goes. We lost Kendall when he had us at our peak. But who do we all seriously think we will get to do better? Because there will be no money on offer – history and the board's record show this.

If Moyes goes, they will grab the chance to sell Fellaini and Baines; personally, I think that has already been put in to place. Laudraup is too big time for Everton, as is Bilic I suspect... Will Martinez get us into the top 3 or win the league? I doubt it. Kenwright's level would be Big Sam or Megson.

Who would want to manage a club with no money? Peter Johnson had no money, Kenwright has no money, there is no difference yet we got rid of Johnson's Board. We need rid of this lot: Kenwright, Earl and Woods.

We need to stick together and get behind the team and the manager. I think Moyes does need to show the club and fans more respect but has he been given any by the Board? In my opinion, No! Forget his salary, it's what all the managers in the league will be on very soon with the money coming in.

We need to spank Oldham and get the good times back. Things will never change at our club under the current Board. Things have improved since Moyes came, who knows what the future holds, but if they had made real bids and signed players in January, I think we may have sneaked 4th even 3rd and maybe the FA Cup. That is down to the Board and the mentality at the club, that has seen Rooney sold, Lescott sold, Arteta sold and before that, Ferguson, Speed, Gray, Lineker and Ball sold.

There, I'll say it: that would never happen across the park – and it pains me to say that...

Good honest opinion Gregg.

Moyes asked for more money in January and was not supported by the board, now reality is kicking us right where it hurts and didn't it hurt after Saturdays defeat.

I am a Moyes supporter and realise he does have his faults but I think he has been let down badly by his players, Osman, Pienaar and Jelavic instanstly spring to mind who have gone missing in recent matches with appalling form. We needed to kick-on in the 2nd half of the season and were in an excellent position, maybe could of been 3rd if we had killed off some of the games in the first half of the season.

I'm expecting Moyes to go this summer, not too bothered....life goes on, but I cant see how any manager can improve on a 5th place finish without being backed financially with a bigger squad and more quality in depth.

Well John#413 we could have improved on Saturday with exactly the same players by not adopting the tactic of 11 defenders in our box so we would have an opportunity to waste some time down their end of the field.

That's not down to finance, squad depth or quality, that's purely down to the manager and it has cost us a few points this season.

Get real !
We need 3-4 players of real quality and that was never going to happen, one signing (Fer) would not have made the slightest difference as Osman and the usual suspects would still have got a game over him.
Moyes has an abysmal track record when it come to bringing in new players and nurturing young talent and don't give me this what about Felli, Baines etc..... They are the few that break the rule.

Go on the official site and look at the 'players in' section under Moyes, I forgot we even signed half of em. If they wernt good enough as some people state then why in gods name did he bring them to the club in the first place ?

Then look at the 'players out' it makes grim reading after 11 years.

I don't think anyone, except of course the media and that does my head in, could defend such a lying and incompetent board. But Moyes has to share responsibility here particularly as he picks the team, decides the tactics and formations, motivates the players, makes the substitutions and I would of thought determines the transfer targets. For his services he gets paid a kings ransom and I would certainly bork at the thought of offering him an improved or even a new contract.

I have read all of the post match comments on this site and like a number of fellow blues just knew we would implode against Norwich and that's the Moyes factor not the board, please don't think I support the board with that comment. Thats what we have inherited from Moyes, revert to type as people have said. When 1 up I thought that we would drop further back and they would score, at 1 each I thought these will win now and that's the belief he gives us, its called same old same old and teams have sussed this out as its our Plan A B C etc.

Ok he may have brought some stability during his tenure but what do we pay him for for gods sake. Well done David for doing the job we pay you so much to do even though we are skint. You have never won anything and are renown for bottling it on the big occasions so lets reward you with a new and improved contract on your terms.

His post match comment about time added on made me laugh particularly after his complaint following the Man U game at Goodison when the ref blew up on time. We lost because of you Davey not the ref.

"If we had won yesterday, we would've been 4 points behind Chelsea, that's the up side." That's a big downside, not an upside. Another wasted opportunity which is down to the players and ultimately the manager as he sets out the team. Regardless of big investment and the signing of new players in the window we should be competing and often beating the teams well below us in the league with our current squad. Too many times we are let down.

After Swansea's win yesterday I think we can forget about getting Laudrup (if Moyes leaves) as his stock has risen even more. Read that the majority of Real Madrid fans want him to replace Mourinho so I would say given the chance to go there or come here, he's only going one place!

So who does that leave? I am not convinced by Martinez at all, never have been. I would have said Lambert in the past but he's having a right mare at Villa.

So I am kind of left hoping Moyes stays despite his shortcomings as I can't think of anybody better.

Anybody have any ideas of who they would want as new boss should he go?

For me our team is very very slow. The only 2 players with any pace are Mirallas & Coleman. This has been a problem for years.

Hopefully we have seen the last of Neville in the starting XI, what with Coleman, Mirallas and Gibson now fit. I believe he kept Mirallas on the bench because he wants him for tomorrow.

The board have been letting us/Moyes down for years so no surprise when they did their disappearing act in January.

I'll say it again, it's amazing how much the players get away with it, you're defending a corner/free kick in the last minute, the very least you do is stick with your man.

tactics have nothing to do with a defender/player losing his man. That's not something that is trained into a player. I think Fellaini is the worst culprit for leaving his man in these situation.

Substitutions and tactics are clearly part of the problem, the other part is your players not doing what they are supposed to do, ie defend a fucking corner properly.

Loads of the players were on twatter talking about new faces.....what happens? the cock up of a medical and a farcical bid that was never ever going to be accepted.

I can see Laudrup going to Chelsea and us getting a yard dog of a manager...or Martinez, who some on here think ids the second coming with his wonderful achievement of keeping Wigan in the Premiership..... brilliant.

The thought of Kenwright choosing a replacement is truly terrifying. Bilic would be my choice but there is no way that would ever happen. BK will turn to Martinez without a doubt.

I can't believe people want Moyes to still be here next season. This pathetic board should at least try and go for Laudrup. What's the worst that can happen? He says no, so then you go for someone else.

Moyes has been treated like a fool when it has come to money for transfers but this board know his personality and have called his bluff on many an occasion — yet he still remains here and that is partly because he hasn't got the balls to quit. Also, he is paid a ridiculous amount of money which has made him a millionaire and he and all the board know that no bigger club than Everton will come in for him.

I don't buy into this idea that it is just all about money that will guarantee success... of course you need it but, if you don't know how to coach, don't know when a player is past it, refuse to give talented youth a chance, don't know about tactics (like when to bring on a sub and what players to sub), then it's pointless.

The whole Pienaar situation is another prime example of a lack of vision from Moyes. I mean, is there no other player in the world that he could've bought with the same money who could have potential to develop and have a re-sale value?.... No-one? The stubbornness in not offering him the money in the first place when he was, in my opinion, at a better level that Arteta, as Arteta was on the decline, has cost us.

I wonder if the board believe he's not the right man to take us to the next level but are happy to sit back and let him make them a lot of money at the expense of the fans who, apart from the first part of this season, have had to watch the shitest football in their lifetimes. I've got a long list of managers I would prefer to have than Moyes and Lambert is still up there despite what's happening at Villa.

And another thing: it's so annoying when people say, "If Moyes doesn't sign a new contract then he should fuck off!" Well, if he doesn't sign a new contract, then he will fuck off but, after 11 years, I would say, "Just fuck off. I couldn't handle another year let alone five of so called experts saying how great this George Graham clone is! (Actually, that's not fair on Graham — he actually won something.)

Richard (#509):

You know what, Lambert is not a bad manager; he just has a very young team who by the way managed to twat the Shite at our old ground — something DM has not achieved — and a team who almost grabbed three points at Goodison Park.

If things go against us tomorrow, or we don't get 3 points against Reading at home, then Moyes should be sacked. End of. His style of Hoofball – Keep it Tight and Knick One is well past its sell-by date.

I just wish we had some real drive ambition and pace in the team. For a start, tell Jelavic NOT to run the channels: stay in the 18-yard box, get the ball into him AND quickly.

And for fucks sake stop bringing 11 men back into our penalty area when we defend a corner or free kick. We just invite teams to attack.

Kenwright to get rid of him? — I think not... more's the pity.

Some great points there, Gregg, but it's alright saying if we'd have won on Saturday, we'd have only been x amount of points behind Chelsea. We never, though, did we? — And that's ultimately down to the manager.

I've ripped Moyes to pieces in the past. But I've also praised him in equal measures. And I don't honestly think there's a manager out there who could take us to the so-called next level (whatever that is) given the budget he's had to struggle with.

What I do think though is that there are plenty of managers out there who'd bring a new dimension to the club, ie, bright attacking football played with pace, a manager who wouldn't be afraid to make a tactical change when it's needed.

I mean, do you honestly ever see the likes of Pienaar, Osman, Fellaini or Baines being subbed. Not often because he's fucking petrified of upsetting them. A manager who wouldn't drop as deep as a Chilean miner trying to protect a one-goal cushion.

A manager who wouldn't go to the likes of Man Utd, Chelsea, Liverpool or Arsenal hoping and praying for a draw. Someone pointed out that he's had 50 attempts at these grounds and is yet to win. I find that fucking criminal and let's be fair in that time Arsenal and Liverpool have had some ordinary sides.

I hate going back to that chestnut but it nags away at me like my wife when I come home from Goodison pissed. Yes, he's galvanised the club and we've got to give him a lot of credit but it's 11 years... my god that's a long time in this precarious buisness and there hasn't really been that much to shout about.

I can't forgive him for his appalling derby record especially last season. When he took us for mugs with that team selection A lot of Blues hold stock of what happens in derby games in high regard; it's our two biggest games of the season league wise that's why Joe Royle is still well revered on here.

I don't think Moyes understands what it means to us even after all this time. 11 years ago, Kenwright took a chance on a virtually unknown manager. Now people just want him to do the same again... who that might be, I don't really know... but I'll bet there's an abundance of managers or coaches out there who could radically change the way we play. Over to you, Billy Liar.

Why is the club in danger of collapse if Moyes goes? Is he the only person on the planet who can manage us?

Did anyone see BBC Northwest Tonight. There was an article on the Busines festival of Britain which is to be held in Liverpool. It's a glbal event aimed at attracting worldwide business to Britain and Liverpool. The advert for the festival includes Liverpool FC crest at the start, Marchester Utd crest and yeap no mention on Everton what so ever!!. So once again we loose out. No global appeal at all. Our board and Chairman are a disgrace!
