Season ticket prices go up
Comments (44)
jump to end
Today I received an e.mail from the club regarding the prices of season tickets for 2013-14. They are up and you have to cough up by the end of April to get the early bird discount.
Is this fair when, by that date, we will not know the manager's intentions? We will not know if the club will enter the market to strengthen the squad.
Due to the uncertainty over the intentions of the present manager, will a new manager be in place to oversee transfer action? If not who will?
With the big increase of TV money coming in, is a rise justified at all?

It is only a small rise, but the question is, a rise for what? Has the football got any better? No. Have we looked like we are in a position to strengthen the squad? No. Do we have any assurances ever about anything to do with Everton? A big fat NO! They have a cheek asking us to commit our hard earned cash to the club when nobody else seems to commit anything. The board give nothing and our manager is waiting to see if he gets a better offer (which he won't because he has done nothing to prove he can handle a step up).

If we want the club to have more money, prices have to go up! With the lack of investment and financial acumen sorely missing, the season tickets are an easy target.
Having said that ours are relatively cheap compared to our peers I think.

It's not even the end of April, you've got to renew by something like 12th April to qualify for early bird prices !!
Brian 568 - not the case though is it, when was the last time the club spent without selling first, regardless of season ticket price increase??? Also the TV money is rising significantly for next season!!

Season tickets amount to about 1/20th of income for a prem club. The reason they go up is simple , Because the club know that fans will always turn up. To be fair to Everton though , they are still one of the cheapest in prem.
PS The average cost of a Bundesliga game is £20.

There should be a takeover rumour or six in the pipeline in the next 6 weeks. I love this time of year.. It's a shame Chris Sameulson/Zingriveich now has a club as I was looking forward to his ghost being resurrected on the corridors of power.

I was led to believe that the Season Ticket money belonged to the bank due to some deal BK did many moons ago, so it must be in the club's interest to get as much money in as fast as they can in order to prevent penalties, if someone knows more about this please feel free to put me right.

I didn't renew my season ticket 2 seasons ago because each year the club wanted me to renew my ticket earlier and earlier. At a time when the football is rubbish and we have a manager who want sign a contract till he is ready at the end of the season. Only the Everton Board could think this is right.

Dan 567 absolutely spot on.
Typical of this donkey of a club to get the timing so badly, at a time when the dross we are served up has peaked (or should that be slumped)? And so soon after the transfer window scam.
Could we be the most insulted supporters in the EPL?

Frankly this is a huge fucking insult to us, given the jobs situation at the moment for odinary working people and with another massive hike in tv revenue, this was an ideal time to give something back to the most loyal supporters, a price freeze or even a reduction, even for just one season would of been a gesture that we could all relate to. Peoples club my arse!!

Moyes will sign his new contract to coincide with the early bird renewal date. That will be the feelgood factor from our inept chairman.
Kenwright plays the same game every season. Moyes willingly plays along with him.

Having just watched the Premier lge ticket rip off on Inside Out (bbc1) tonight it makes this price hike even harder to swallow. When you see what prices fans of the top Bundesliga clubs pay it makes me question my loyalty to a club / league that has no other interest in its fans other than to rinse them of every available penny.
Best league in the world? Yea, maybe for the millionaire players...certainly not for the poor sods in the stands.

I will not be renewing this, just simple economics, I can't afford it. Like. the vast majority of supporters I will pick and choose which games I go to.

We have the manager keeping us guessing, our star player spouting about Chelsea every week and the cheeky fuckers send us emails asking for our money for next season just after everyone has probably just cleared their Xmas borrowing, you couldn't make it up.

How can Bayern Munich do that? They have players that must be on really good salaries. We are being ripped off. Pity fans will not boycott the Premier League in protest.

Rather interesting that for the first time the letter urging renewal is not from Moyes but Jagielka. This suggests Moyes won't be here. This should result in an increase on sales.

John how much is that in Sterling about £150? When you think about the money flowing into the game from TV it just shows that the wages in this country are ridiculous. That's what really annoys me about Everton, save the Park End stand and Finch Farm - which we now rent - we have as a club done nothing with 20 years of TV money and we're still in debt, I'd love to know which companies our directors are involved with and if any of them profit from the outsourcing that has happened in the last 10-15 years.
Any other business and serious questions would be asked by the shareholders - if they were allowed to - but hey this is football and ordinary punters don't matter.

I wasn't actually thinking like you Mick, but on reflection, I don't think I can renew for another season under Moyes.
Imagine the negativity surrounding the place if he is sulking in every presser, and looking at the same MO with the same players?
We need a new outlook, and Moyes has made his bed now, I think it's best he and the fans move on.
I can't see many being happy with the fact he wasn't offered anything better, so he'll stay with us for now – he's nowhere near that good!!

Frank #651, the Bundesliga has huge commercial income. German companies pour a lot into their sponsorship. Their TV deal is nothing like the value of the UK deal, but they are working on growing the overseas component, which drives sponsorship values - much like the growth overseas has for the EPL.
A competent and well run club would be taking advantage of these opportunities, and most are in the EPL.

The average price of a La Liga match is around £5/8 depending on where you sit, and this is pretty much average around the league.
Barcelona also offer seats for just €5.

As John (570) has already pointed out, this rise coincides with a massive increase in the TV money next season, so its clear where that'll be going for every club in the league - higher wages and higher transfer fees! This needs to stop somewhere
From looking at the figures, if you're an adult looking to get your first ever season ticket in early May, it barely makes any financial sense to do so, as opposed to just buying individual tickets for each game. Hardly an incentive is it?

Everton need extra money as a business, the entrance prices at GP compared to other clubs is way too low. I know that’s not what people want to hear but in life you get what you pay for, Arsenal ST £1300.00 mine £565.50 plus my son at £95.00, it’s a bargain to watch PL Football in relation to what the RS charge and others. Some people on this site want the club to invest millions in new players and stadia plus the board putting in every penny yet the club increase by a small margin and still offer a product one of the cheapest in the league, complete hypocrites the lot of you. In life you have a choice either pay for a ST or choose your games my mates do both based on their personal circumstances its normal economics. We slag off the board every week on this site yet the players and their agents arrive in £100k cars and what do us fans do, ask them for their autograph!! Agents took £4.5m out of EFC last year and the players nearly every penny left and they want more so next time you sit in your seat just remember where all the money is really going before you point your finger!! The problem is those 11 players on the field not in the stand.

Patrick (#671) — €96 would be about £79
Now that's value to see Robben, Ribery and the rest every second weekend, no wonder every German stadium is rocking.

Alan unfortunately forgot to add that the most successful club - Manchester United charge £532.00 for a season ticket.
We should be the cheapest in the League, we have the shittest stadium, and the worst facilities. I can't see what is hypocritical about wanting a Board to invest in their business, who also expect huge returns when they eventually sell up.
What a strange post.

When you see an overated manager being paid more than any player, plus Arteta had to take a pay cut to join Arsenal, then you wonder who makes the decisions on finances at Everton Football Club. Also our chairman does not take a penny from the club, 'allegedly'.
Owning and managing Everton Football Club must be the 2 best jobs in football: just stay in the Premier League (to get their money) and draw a decent wage every week, with no real threat of the sack or ambition! Great job if you can get it.

Kevin, you use Man United as a comparison are you serious? They have a capacity double ours, their sponsorship alone for off the field commercial dwarfs the turnover of EFC. They have fixed assets alone higher than the purchase cost of our club, yes they have a working debt but generally the club is run very well because their earning power is so great. EFC don’t have this, commercial, corporate and we trade at a loss most years dependant on player sales so the club at every level including tickets prices need to increase its match day income, its an obvious and sensible business decision if you all take off you’re blinkers. Nobody wants to pay more that’s natural but when you see how much money goes in to the players, managers and agents pockets don’t be surprised we all have to pay more, football has to address this at some point otherwise like you all say fans will stay away, using extra TV money for players is wrong this extra money should be invested in the business to keep it solid.

Season ticket prices should be based on the type of football each club plays, so that's around a couple of quid for us then.

Transfer action? That means there would need to be action associated with transfers.
No chance.

Alan Williams
I think the general consensus here is that ticket prices are too high irrespective of what 'investment' the fans would like to see in the team.
My season ticket went years ago. I have been to Goodison three times this season because
• I am fed up of forking out £8 to park my motor miles away from the ground
• I am fed up with rip off prices to eat shit food and drink that is either too hot, too cold or not in stock
• I am fed up paying £30 to sit in an uncomfortable seat in a stadium with facilities from the Dickensian era, to watch shit football from players who care only about the cash they are stuffing into an offshore account
I am falling out of love with Everton and football in general. I imagine I will stop going altogether over the next couple of years and I suspect I am not the only one.

If I lived in England I could just about afford a season ticket. I haven't been to a game this season because it costs about £300 to attend.I have tremendous admiration for those who attend home and away. I walked home from the pub after the United game absolutely outraged. I cannot imagine how those who went to Norwich felt.
I do believe that being at a game gives a different perspective which is why I think match goers tend to be more tolerant of Moyes and even Kenwright.

Nick, I think we agree on most points but you must remember that getting a new stadium and all those extra comforts will probably mean a higher entrance price. I have work colleagues here that hate the Emirates and all the cost it brings as they have now been priced out of the ground by a new modern fan which London offers to these clubs, he would love to return to Highbury and tells me every week to stay at GP as long as you can. He was an ex STH at Arsenal he hasn’t been at all this year to the Emirates. I go the game to watch EFC and have a pint with friends I couldn’t give a shit about the pies if I’m honest.
