Moving On

 Comments (22) jump to end

I think we have all been grieving since Saturday. You may have heard of the 5 stages of grief?

1. Numbness & Denial,
2. Yearning & Anger,
3. Emotional Despair, Sadness & Withdrawal,
4. Reorganization
5. Letting Go & Moving On.

I think most of us are still at Stage 3 but apparently we have a game on Saturday against last season's Champions, so I think we might want to start thinking about moving on.

It will be interesting to see how the team react to last week. I am hoping that the team will be out to prove a point to the fans and themselves. It will also be interesting to see how the fans behave. Whatever your feelings on the team, Moyes or Kenwright, I personally never want to see Everton lose.

It will also be interesting to see how Moyes reacts and if he makes any changes. I am sure he would be tempted to make some but, given that it is Man City, I'd guess not too many – would it be fair to throw in Duffy against Tevez etc?

In terms of hopes and expectations for the end of the season, my hope is that we finish above Liverpool. I'm not saying that to be petty. If we do finish above them (which is a big ask given our respective run-ins), then it is likely we will be in Europe and they won't. If they don't qualify for Europe then it is another blow to their US backers and worldwide support.

What I am really hoping will then happen is that Suarez will be picked up by another club. He is a dirty little prick but you cannot deny that he is a top player and is all that is keeping them going. Losing him would be a big blow to them.

Let's face it, they are a big impediment to us getting an investor, so staying on top of them is important to our future prospects.

I am petty when it comes to the RS Ciaran and a really sad amount of my personal pleasure comes when things go wrong for them. Really hoping rat boy leaves and he will if he's got any ambition, probably the best season he'll ever have and all for nothing. I would be happy if they got Europa though, for who they think they are, it's an embarrassment and will totally fuck up next seasons push for top 4.

Not that I'm wanting to start a line-up thread. But the changes are going to have to be in the mentality and performance because he was, injury permitting, only a Gibson from his strongest line-up.

I think he may have to go with Barkley over Osman just to get the fans back onside.

Count me in in the petty side too, the RS drive me up the wall and that diving sod again got them a victory on the weekend and will no doubt do so again with a minute left of the season to achieve CL football.

Hope we beat Citeh this weekend no matter what the performance however a win against them should not take the pressure off Kenwright and Moyes for what they have turned us into.

Hate Liverpool to the core of my being but if this is what it's come to success being them shitter than us in the best of the rest race we might as well throw the towel in.

Regarding Suarez let me tell you from bitter experience going all the way back to Ian St John in the 60s they ALWAYS replace with an equivalent or better who's destiny is to score in every derby.

I would be amazed if this season does not fizzle out like a firework that doesn't go off properly.

Manager probably leaving, out the Cup, key players looking for a move, strikers who can't buy a goal, and no fresh faces.

We also have our most difficult run-in for many a year, at grounds we all know the manager hopes for a draw as a good result.

Sorry, just cannot see any light at the moment - now where's that noose?

I think the best thing now would be if the Board identified a new manager from those available [obviously we aren't going to pay any compensation], & get them in now [after paying Moyes off]. At least the new man can get his feet under the table & assess the squad before the summer comings & goings. That would give us the best chance of a fresh start next season.

Dennis Shaw @ 863

The games against City, Arsenal, Spurs and Chelski are no lose situations for BK and DM, they'll just pull out the funding card (we're expected to lose or at most draw). It's QPR, Sunderland, Fulham etc where they will be under the magnifiying glass.

Liverpool will finish above us - this is not throwing in the towel speak, its simply being realistic. Our run in is bad enough on its own but when you add in the ridiculous manager situation and abysmal cup performance, I think some of the players are now already on the beach in their minds, if not out the door all together.

I predict us finishing 8th tbh - can see one of west brom or swansea nicking in front of us over the coming weeks.

Season is over - only the derby match left that's of any real importance.

Millwall in the FA Cup semi-final, that's one final and two semis in the last few years for the South London minnows. That's the same record it's taken David Moyes's Everton to achieve in 11 years? I guess Millwall are as big a club as us then?

Robert - I agree that in this current climate we are expected to lose against the big teams however I have a gut feeling we will beat Citeh we always seem to be able to up our game against them I think the words 'Lescott' and 'small club' hit a nerve with some players.

I desperately want the win and a push for Europe but would just hate the win to take the pressure of the Management. The smaller clubs we have to play should be easy wins for us......you would hope.

I'll give you you a 6th stage-bewilderment. What has happened to the team that played exhilarating, attacking football earlier in the season, which created more chances than any other team in Europe? These are the same players that dominated teams, in fact this is the first time that we’ve been able to field our best XI, so we should be competing with the Mancs.

Move on? Sought out the lack of clean sheets, and the misfiring attack or the grief will continue.

Anyone who thinks this team can win on sat is in dreamland. Thats good because we can still suport the team safe in the knowledge they will get another drubbing and loser moyes will be on his bike 5 years too late

Well, the end of the season could go 2 ways as I see it. It will either be 1) a damp squib as per Kevin (873) or 2) the team will be fired up with a point to prove. If it is obvious after a few games that 1) is happening then I'd agree that the club needs to be proactive and start planning for next year. Some people might be happy with that but I'd still rather us finish strongly and then we can review the season afterwards.

In terms of RS, I am not qualified to talk (not living in LP) but it seems to me that our relationship with them has changed radically. In the past, looking from afar, we seemed to have a more friendly rivalry and there have been times (eg mid 80s) when both teams were successful at the same time. I think that the EPL, UCL and the hyper commercialisation of the game has changed that. Basically, we are not just local football rivals we are commercial rivals. We want them to fail and they want us to fail. That is why they don't want to ground share with us as it would be good for us commercially. That is why I think it is important for us to finish above them, have a proper go at them in the derby and wish them all of the misfortune in the world (if only Timmy was here to take Suarez out after 5 mins).

Sorry to say this but Man City are playing well and scoring goals which is the opposite to Everton. The safe money is on City and if we are brutally honest, a draw will be a good result, so expect Moyes to set his team up not to lose.

I don't expect any changes other than Gibbo starting. My preference would be for the Big Fella to play his defensive holding midfield providing he has not been dropped and bring in Barkley in a forward position supporting the striker, possibly Big Vic although against City it will be an almighty task to play up front on his own.

Unfortunately the team can't afford to have Mirallas and Pienaar in the side at the same time so I would rest Pienaar and give him a run after 70 minutes.

Both Osman and Neville should be rested but it won't happen. I would like Moyes to step down as manager/coach if we get a good hiding and hand over the reins to some one with a bit more positivity about them.

Football is unpredictable but I would be extremely surprised if we managed to overhaul either Arsenal or Liverpool, yet alone the teams above. We will have a job on our hands staying ahead of Swansea and West Brom.

With that in mind it would be great to see a little freshness and new impetus in the team and top of the list must be Barkley, Duffy and Mcaleny who now has 5 goals in the last 6 reserve team matches.

Personally I think Fellaini should be dropped for his turning around after misplacing a pass fiasco against Wigan so would try this team:

Mucha
Coleman Duffy Distin Baines
Mirallas Gibson Barkley Pienaar
Mcaleny
Anichebe

Of course theres about as much chance of that happening as Dale Winton cracking Hollywood and perhaps it would be not the kindest or easiest introduction to the young lads but at the same time it would appear there is not that much to lose with expectations so low and at least it would give us fans something new to try and raise the flagging spirits.

Sam I can see moyes making some changes by bringing in youngsters, then when we get beat saying I told you so and promptly drop them. He did something similar against Leeds earlier in the season, when he not only played youngsters but also played senior pro's out of position as well.

Can't believe that no one has mentioned moyes decision to let McMannaman go after his goal against us for Wigan. This was a lad who was a speedy wide player who was told he was the best technical player since Rooney and then let go because of his size. That to me sums up Moyes approach to football.

By the way I do agree with you about giving young players a go between now and the end of season.

They've already proved a point. They and the manager are simply not good enough.

I am not sure how clear that could ever be.

I couldn't care less what we now do until the end of the season, as long as we get shut of Moyes. I will go if the fans no longer want me, ring any bells? So then, why is he still here? The only thing he is honorable to is his paycheck.

At the end of this season , most of the squad needs getting rid off, how anyone can even think this squad is good is beyond my comprehension. from Mr Jelavic who can't hit a barn door 1 meter out, to sideways phil, who loves passing to the opposition, and many more in between. A major overhaul is desperately needed in the summer, and the best thing to do now, is let Moyes go, and bring in a new manager who can see what needs to be done and where etc.

We can't be relegated, and we have no nothing to loose and possibly a lot to gain my removing moyes now. We couldn't be beat Wigan at home, and we gave up as we always do at old trafford..there is nothing left to play for.

I for one don't want the europa, give it the neighbours and watch their season fall apart next year..the last thing I want is Moyes signing any kind of contract, not even for 12 months..he has to go now or at the very latest, the end of the season.

He cannot motivate the players in a massive game, so what makes you think he can against city? I'd suggest just parking the bus on the goal line with every player, but knowing heitinga, they'd still score.

Ciaran,

I am still stuck in stage 2 but having flashes of David Hallwood's 6th stage - bewilderment. I am raving mad about what has happened to us since the start of the season - we were playing great football and I was full of hope.

Grrrrrr!

I think Fellaini should not be given the easy way out of being dropped. He should be made to sit on the bench next to Heitinga, Neville, Osman and made to watch Duffy, Barkley and McAleny playing out of their skins for a place.
