Rooney considering his future

 Comments (26) jump to end

Wayne Rooney has to be looking at the headlines today and the betting odds on Ferguson's replacement and considering his own future. I don't personally believe that Man Utd's powers that be are foolish enough to appoint David Moyes, but if they did I doubt if either man wants to work with the other again.

Rooney will be 28 in October and not really the player he once was or once seemed destined to be. He held up signing a new contract because he wanted assurances about Ferguson's future. Could Rooney come back to Everton? Would we want him? Could we afford him?

Maybe Moyes would swap him for Fellaini - or Baines. I once felt that I wouldn't want Rooney back for free but when you consider we have no effective strikers - Anichebe is a bad joke - I feel very differently. Failing all that, Rooney is sold to finance a purchase of Lewandowski, are we entitled to a piece of the action?

Incidentally, I can't want to see van Persie wasting his energy tracking back, defending the near post on corners, helping out on the wing - doing everything but scoring. Welcome to Moyeschester!

Not a chance, Rooney and Moyes have patched up their differences a while ago and how could Everton begin to finance such a deal with the transfer fee and wages. There was once a time when Everton were considered equal to Manchester United, the current and previous board have contrived to manage Everton's subsequent decline.

Would we want him? Yes

Could we afford him? What do you think?

Discussion over.

Actually RVP does already defend the near post at corners. He's actually very good at it and wins plenty of headers from there.

What nonsense. RVP will still bag 30 goals next season.

Writing has been on the wall for Rooney for a while if Utd get a marque signing like Falcao or Lebauski - would he be happy as a squad player - personally I think it quite possible.

If you actually watch Man U you will see Van Persie helping out on the wings and going back for corners. What do people expect strikers to do if the ball comes forward but not directly in the centre of the pitch? Stand and let the defensive team get it?

Rooney goes nowhere.

Peter (OP) - That 2nd paragraph? Shocked reading something so uniformly fucking stupid coming from you.

I am pretty sure if you look across the Utd team you will find most of them track back and help out at corners, probably more so than any other team. They are also the most successful team over the past 2 decades. Coincidence? Hardest working team with best players comes out on top, hard working team with average players comes in average position.

It's only cos RVP is a better player at the same job as Rooney. Any club in the world would be pleased to have the lad. He'd do a great job at city. The suggestion that he'd come to us can't be a serious one. There's nothing to see here.

James, you really are a complete and utter fucking idiot. You obviously still haven't got a clue what it is to be a dyed in the wool blue. You have no idea whatsoever of Scouse culture yet you think you do.

Stick to supporting the mighty blue by all means, but for fuck sake stop thinking you understand us, because you simply don't.

Big name United forwards defending is hardly new I can remember Charlton and Law on each post for a corner Vs some portugese team in the 60's

Leave it Derek, you will have the revisionists telling us Man U leave three up for every corner soon.

Why do still get fucking idiots banging on about Rooney coming back to Everton? If he costs over a penny he's way out of our price range under this pathetic board.

And that's even before you consider his £250,000 a week wages.

Oh cmon, Rooney's been used to be Champions League football and winning titles for ages.

No offence, but why would he want to come here? I can see maybe Juventus or PSG making a move for him.l

I am happy that Moyes is finally going albeit he has gone without honour and dignity and this criticism applies to SAF and the Man U management too. I also think its no coincidence that Rooney has said he wants away from Man U at exactly the same time there is no love lost between him and the LYING deceiver. I also think there is absolutely no chance whatsoever of Rooney returning to Everton, not yet anyway, he may come in a couple of years or so as his career winds down.

If we got rooney I would become a season ticket holder again. Even if we appointed dean saunders as our new manager.

Actually Ste, he will be a free agent fairly soon, having declined to re-up in April. As for his wages, if we unloaded just three or four of the completely unproductive dead wood we have right now, we could afford to pay him.

I have to laugh at the way Wayne describes himself on his Twitter thingy:
"Nike UK Athlete"
Well, it made me laugh anyway...

Peter,
Actually he's contracted at Untited until 2015, so he'd still cost a sizable sum (hence the 20 Million + speculative pricing in the tabloids).

Only way we'd get him is to swap him for Fellaini and get those wages down. Can't see him wanting to trade Champions League football just yet though for Bills bullshit.
