There was a Dutchman, a Croatian and a Frenchman...

 Comments (46) jump to end

This my shortlist of three to replace David Moyes.

1: Dennis Bergkamp, assistant manager at Ajax working with Frank De Boer. He loves attacking stylish football, he knows the Premier League and its demands. He has physical and mental toughness and a fantastic work ethic. He would be better than Laudrup in my view.

2: Slaven Bilic. He not only has valuable Premier League experience, he was a great Everton player in his day. We all know what he achieved with Croatia, but he has not been doing very well in Russia with Lokomotiv Moscow and could become available.

3: Frederic Antonetti. I can almost hear people saying, “who?” He recently left the French Ligue 1 team Rennes after four years and has managed St Etienne and Bastia. He is the “French David Moyes” in the sense that his teams tend to punch above their weight. However, he was publicly critical of Rennes owners for not putting up needed investment. A Moyes with balls!

Berkamp is a good shout, has he got over his fear of Flying yet, might be a problem when we qualify for Europe.

Hang on, Bilic was a great Everton player?! I know the word great is used liberally these days but applying it to a man who played 25 games (and most of them poorly) in 3 years is a step too far!

As I recall, he jerked us around by always being injured for us but always being fit and available for Croatia. Plus, he was an Everton player when he got the French captain, Blanc, sent off in a World Cup semi by pretending to have been shot in the head, which didn't do our reputation much good.

De Boer & Bergkamp to get the job will take the club to the next level for sure and will attract big name without a doubt. Our youth system will improve dramatically and will produce talent a lot more with them two in control.

I've heard it all: Bilic was a 'great' Everton player. I don't want him anywhere near my club. Bergkamp, on the other hand, is an excellent shout, hadn't thought of that one.

Good shout Scott, they are probably on peanuts at Ajax but they are both strong minded individuals and I'm sure billy liar is looking for another front man/minder in the Moyes mould.

So, Walter Smith apparently recommended the young David Moyes to Everton before he left his tenure. And SAF also recommended DM for the Man Utd job.

Shouldn't then Kenwright ask Moyes who is best to take the role at Everton.? We all know how many games Moyes gets too. It's not only the players he would have looked at, he'd have a good grasp of up-and-coming British & German managers as well.

Get Moyes to recommend; it would be his parting gift to Everton.

There is an up-and-coming German coach who can work with no budget and have their team play football that results in four players being in the opposition box in an attack. He is also expected to move to a bigger team at the end of this season as he continues to "punch above" his teams expectations:

In defence of Bilic, he was indeed a great player who happened to play for Everton. I never suggested he was a club legend or 'great Evertonian'' anything. The idea that anything he did vis a vis Blanc reflected badly on us is ludicrous. He happened to be a Kendall signing and seemed not to respond to Walter Smith. Who can blame him for that? The real point, however, is that he is an accomplished experienced manager who may be available. It's amazing that some people will turn up their noses at Bilic over something that happened 15 years ago but they'll presumably welcome the manager of a second rate relegated club with open arms.

I can just see it now...Kenwright at a press conference, revealing our next manager. "I am pleased to announce that the next manager of Everton football club...Recommended by the Moysia himsef will be

Thomas Tuchel may have four players in the box but they don't score many goals, top scorer is on 13, next is on 7.

More worrying from my point of view is the high turnover of players since he arrived,

If Bilic were ever to become our manager, I would hand my season ticket back in. He might have been a "great player" but I hardly saw him bother to turn out for Everton.

What's the bet Bill's thinking of taking all this shenanigans to 'The West End', casting all his old 'Street' cronies. A roller-coaster ride of show culminates in the new Everton manager being announced. In front of the worlds press, wait for it, wait for it some more....No, it can't be.....BK (plays himself) appoints Dev Alahan. "With his exceptional managerial record, he'll bring much needed stability.....blah de blah, blah blah blah".

For those people Bilic-bashing I have a couple of words to offer:

When Slaven played for Everton and eventually succumbed to an injury he was asked by the board whether he felt his playing days were over. The board received eight million pounds in insurance against the player as his career was over.

How do I know this? My friend who worked for a retail telephone company, managed some of Slaven's accounts. They became very friendly, as she did with Tommy Gravesen (who she said was the nicest yet craziest person you could ever care to meet.) Slaven became that friendly that he took members of her family to meet the team and laid on tickets and boxes.

From the horses mouth he adored Everton, much like many who talk of the 'Everton Family' - Slaven fell for us. He is very much a family oriented guy and he loved the club, despite the fact that many call him mercenary for taking wages.

Just thought I throw my tuppence worth in. On a side note, we all know that only ex-players have won trophies for us.

I'll tell you who I don't want and that's Neil Lennon. I could manage in the SPL and win a trophy with Celtic. Having Lennon in charge would take us back to the dark day's of the early 90s with the like's of Mike Walker at the helm. I like the idea of someone like Denis Bergkamp. He is assistant manager at Ajax and everyone knows how he played plus he know's the premiership and good players would like to play under him.

The only criteria Kenwright and the board will be looking for are that the next manager is cheap, grateful to be managing a bigger club and won't kick up a stink when he's constantly told we have no money. This board lacks serious ambition so lets not get are hopes up high.

I'd be happy with Bilic.

I'd really like to give Phil Neville a chance, too. I think we would have continuity with Neville.

Ah opinion. McKay is getting the "NOOOOOOOOOO" treatment across the way and we're being told that not only was Bilic great but that one of Bergkamp's strengths is his work ethic.
This next couple of months is going to be entertaining.

Re:- Luke Berry, I met Slaven a few times thro work related functions and got to know him quite well, he admitted to me at the end of his days here that his hip injury was'nt responding to treatment and he felt he'd let the club down. He also said he'd never played for a more passionate football club and was desperate to see it do well in the future. He also hated the fact that every tackle he put in the referees were looking for an easy target for bookings / sending offs. Also maybe his appointment may help sort out Jelavic's confidence!!

Talksport reporting Malky MacKay has been approached!

In that context Neil Lennon would be a great appointment.

I feel pangs of dread every time I hear the names of Hughes, Neville ( nothing new there ) and MacKay linked.

I may not be happy with a different appointment but I could tolerate it.

With those 3 I'm already in the 'out brigade'.

I don't think Neville is eligible. Correct me if I'm wrong but don't you need specific UEFA coaching qualifications to become a manager in the Premier League which Neville presumably doesn't have. I would take Alan Stubbs or Steve Round as interim manager while the right person is appointed. The last thing we need is a mad rush to appoint a successor and end up with another Walter Smith. Hughes is a nightmare appointment. Lucien Favre, Borussia Moenchengladbach, is not a bad shout but I am suspicious because he moves around so much, never staying in one club for more than a handful of seasons. Something wrong there.

James Cadwaladr. Please inform me of what personal pay-off I get to make a cock and bull story regarding this? The company is O2. It was BT Cellnet at the time. The office was based in Derby square.

Tommy Gravesen drove a Nissan Micra, Slaven was a very down-to-Earth guy. I feel no need to embellish or manufacture stories to appease or inspire anybody on here. I made similar assertions regarding Franny Jeffers and his relationship with the club. His cousin Paul worked for the same company at the same time as my friend.

Is it beyond the realms of reasonable possibility that people have links or know of people who have relationships with people from the club?

Everton football club have a long standing relationship with O2 and send many of the players to deal with the company. I dealt with two current squad members and a previous squad member quite recently. I worked for the company myself. I can't comment on who these players are because of data protection. However was never employed by BT Cellnet, hence why I have no problem discussing this.

But in the even t of another childish paaaaahaaaaa response. Please furnish me with a reasonable response as to what I stand to gain by sharing such information.

I've written a couple of articles/mailbag posts over the last 6 years on ToffeeWeb. I love the club. In the sense that certain fans have a bad view of a previous player, I am in a position to give opinion due to experience.

I don't know if you use GOT? There's a chap called LCAB who as links to the club. He often speaks where possible regarding the clubs position on certain subjects. People don't ridicule without judging the merits of his statements or answers.

Oh and why would my friend have information regarding an Insurance payout? The answer was in the statement itself. They had a friendship and she was informed by him of his reasons for leaving Everton. Whether that could be construed as an ill advised idea considering the delicate nature of such a disclosure, well that's for others to answer.

What I do know is that he was deeply upset that the fans saw him as a mercenary at the time. He gave somebody he considered his friend his reason for leaving.

The best manager available, who has vast premier experience and has won a significant trophy, is Rafael Benitez. He would make sure that Everton would not flop in the premier league that could happen with someone else. Such as the likes of Martin O'Neil. who nearly did with Sunderland, until replaced. Just in time.

Who is this Alan Johnson bloke who beat Lennon to manager of the season in Scotland. Could this be another possible Moyes ? .

Stats
The club announced on 21 June 2011 that Johnston had signed a contract as player coach.[15] On 3 May 2012, Johnston was appointed as Queens new player manager.[1][16]
Johnston led Queens to a historic double in his first full season in management, winning the Scottish Second Division Championship and the Scottish Challenge Cup.

Martinez should not be listed because his team has been on the brink every season and will probably go down now. We can't afford to hire any man who clearly does not do his work properly and achieve the prime target : stay in the Premier league.
He's a nice guy and a good coach but nice guys get eaten no matter how much they know about football.
I like Laudrup for his connections an attitude for the game but it seems he wont come. Pereira would seem best option for me but Favre might be good also. We need a manager who has enough experience and connections to Europe because British players are overestimated, overpaid and generally not good enough.
If Moyes tries to get Fellaini we should offer him for for Rooney coming to Everton for two-year-deal in which Manu would compensate. In that way everybody would benefit.
Well, it's never going to happen but hope lives

Vitor Pereira for me - a manager who plays attacking football, has won things and has a winning aura to him (like Mourinho and AVB)
Plus, and it's a big plus - he's free! No compensation to pay!
I also like the look of Laudrup (big compensation to pay) Poyet, Lambert and Montanier but think we will probably end up with Mackay.
As long as it's not Martinez, Lennon, McClaren or Hughes I'm not that fussy!
