Match Report

Everton's friendly against Dundee Utd at Tannadice goes ahead this evening after being postponed from yesterday due to heavy rain and a waterlogged pitch. Kick-off is at 7.45pm. Live coverage is available at evertontv (for £3.99 for tonight or an £18.99 package for six pre-season games).

Tim Cahill and Johnny Heitinga are back with the squad — although the Dutchman won't be playing and will be helping out on commentary instead — but Leighton Baines and Phil Jageilka are still on leave.

The rain held off, allowing the game to finally go ahead, in a fairy low-key manner befitting of the pre-season.

A lovely turn by Junior allowed him to quickly feed Rodwell who took a god shot on target. At the other end, Howard was lucky to be directly in the line of a quick shot from the Dundee striker, Gardyne.

Russell broke the Everton offside trap but lashed the bouncing ball over Howard's crossbar midway through the first half. Later, Russell got inside the area but again he lashed the chance well over the bar.

Marouane Fellaini replaced Jack Rodwell for the second half. Dundee United also made a change at the interval, Ryan Dow replacing Gary Mackay.

It was all pretty mundane until Francisco Junior produced a very aggressive tackle on Michael Gardyne and was lucky to get just a yellow card. Barkley replaced the rather exuberant Portuguese midfielder moments later.

Third Everton substitution as Conor McAleny makes way for Apostolos Vellios. Conor has worked hard up front tonight.

Fellaini gave away a free-kick but it was blasted over as Everton came under a bit of late pressure going into the last 10 mins.

With three minutes left Barkley fed Coleman on the right side of the area and dodged inside the defender nicely to clip a well-placed cross to the far post where Barkley nodded it back across goal and just inside the other post to give Everton the honours.
