Heitinga set for Viola move?
John Heitinga could leave Everton in January with reports in Italy linking the 30 year-old with a move to Fiorentina.
The Dutchman's contract is up next summer and the Italian side could wait until then to pick him up for free but a deal for a nominal fee when the transfer window opens on 1st January is also possible.

Terrible attitude for someone who believes he's still one of the top defenders in the world!!! Here in The Netherlands nobody has a good opinion of him even die hard Ajacieden (Ajax fans)....

It hard to quite know what went wrong with Johnny H.
Given the time left in his contract, the fee (if it is disclosed) will be nominal. But frees up a part of the wage bill, which will be handy,
Age concerns suggests we need to be on the lookout for a new central defender.

Terry, I'm no fan of his and always thought there was a lot of hype but where are you coming from with this attack?

Get him out. Bring in Bruno Martins Indi. He can be our next Distin. Rapid and strong.

Too bad about Johnny. Goes from POY at Club and starter for one of the world’s top national sides to nowhere at both in just a few months.
Must be a peculiar fellow.

Bruno Martins Indi, that would be great...

Johnny should have been sold off sometime in the last 2 or 3 transfer windows, so there's no guarantee we'll be able to offload him in January either. I suppose moving club is his last chance of making another World Cup though, so the ball is in his court.
I think Everton should have a 'barge pole' policy on Dutch players...

Should have sold him already. Stupid to let him go on a free when we could have moved him on for £5M.

Not offence to JH but we need to ship him out on 01 Jan. He's too expensive to have warming the bench and we have enough cover as it is.
We have about 6 players who could play CB if needed - without him. Get rid and use the 60k/week saved to get new blood into the side or give Barkley an improved and more importantly longer contract. Give him away for free if need be - maybe get a kid or two from the Florentina academy as a fee.
James 751 - think the club did get offers for him in the summer and last year but Heitinga didn't want to go. Either he deemed he was too good for these clubs or the wages on offer were far less than he's on now - probably a combination of both.

Yes Matt and at the beginning of last season we were shitting ourselves at the thought that someone would want to buy Jelavic off of us as he was so good.
There's still a good player in there somewhere, in both of them.

When he joined us from Atletico, the kindest comment I heard over Heitinga from Dutch friends and colleagues was "he's prone to making mistakes". Well he 's certainly last season he did so on a number of occasions.
His salary could be certainly better utilised.

At least with Jelavic there is the abiding feeling that the man will carry on trying his best notwithstanding bad luck.

Unfortunately, his lack of pace and height has exposed him and he lost confidence. He became a liability at the back and should have tried to make himself into a holding midfielder but never reached the heights required to oust Gibson or even Neville. It's sad for the lad as he is not that old when he is compared to Distin who is stronger and faster than him.

Never been convinced by Johnny. Even when he pick up our player if the year award I was never convinced by him at CB. Had a terrible reputation in Spain before we signed him.

I thought he was great when he was our "player of the year". I think maybe Moyes ruined him, like he ruined Jelavic (changing his game, holding up the ball more, making him run into the channels), Yakubu (alright the injuries take a bit of the blame too) and Johnson (holding up the ball more, making him run into the channels).

Stupid, crass comment from Terry at the start of this thread. Heitinga played well then lost his place and has struggled to get it back Stones has emerged as an alternative and offers more for the future. We need cover at centre half but it should really be long term Johnny needs to play first team football to stand any chance of getting to World Cup so he'll almost certainly leave in Jan. He could - and perhaps should - have gone earlier but his versatility offered more when the squad was so small. Martinez has largely corrected that flaw so a move suits everyone

Spot on Sam. Let's sell Johnny, get some money in for him and use it to get Martins Indi.

Bit harsh from some people here.
Yeah he's not that good anymore, but he was immense 2 years ago and it's not his fault he's on a lot of money.
Hopefully we will sell him but I wish him the best of luck and hope he'll get in the World Cup squad.

Out of all the CB's we have at the club, the new Martinez style should of suited Johnny the most. He grew up as an Ajax player, which drums in the passing from the back game play from day one. Unfortunately for him, he has two quality CB's in-front of him, and an absolute quality young player in Stones knocking him down the pecking order. Flog him in Jan, save some money in wages and get a couple of quid in transfer fees.

One of DM's mistakes... get rid. His problem is that he plays football of the '50s and the game has moved on.
