France vs Germany
Two European heavyweights clash in the Maracan࣠as France and Germany meet in a rematch of their combustible clash in the World Cup semi-finals in 1982.
That match was notable for the sickening manner in which then German 'keeper Harold Schumacher poleaxed France's Battiston, leaving him concussed and knocking out three of his teeth in a collision that wasn't penalised in any way.
France have emerged as serious contenders in Brazil this time around after their embarrassing exit in the group stage four years ago while perennial favourites Germany marched through the group stage before despatching Algeria in the last round.
Both teams made heavy work of their the round of 16 matches but France eventually saw off Nigeria while the Germans were taken to extra time by their African opponents.
World Cup history has not been kind to teams who have had to endure the extra 30 minutes – 9 out of the last 10 teams to win in extra time have lost their next game – so it promises to be a fascinating clash.

Definitely be going for the French in this one. I clearly remember that Schumacher incident and it still makes me mad! I am tired of seeing the Germans winning World Cup games (esp on penalties) and that twat Muller (pull up yer friggin socks ya pillock) just annoys me for some reason.
Anyway, glad I got that off my chest.

I think it will be France. If the Brazilian ref hadn't been so pro-Germany in the last match they would probably be playing Algeria. While the disallowed Algerian goal was a good call it seemed to me that every 50-50 call went to Germany. They were given a bunch of soft foul calls while some of their hard challenges/fouls were completely ignored.

I'm not too sure who I want to win this game but history dictates that the Germans will find a way to get through to the Semi-Finals; I wouldn't expect a classic game of football as both sides will likely set up not to lose – I can see a winning goal being scored by Klose, if it doesn't end all-square after extra-time.
Having said all that, seven German players are allegedly suffering from a flu-bug... but that may well be an old trick that they are playing.

Maybe Patrick but Hummels did sit out the last game because of it. Then again it could just be that smug German pride that believed they couldn't possible loose to Algeria. If it wasn't for Nuer's heroic reading of the game and Muller's refusing to loose attitude they'd be home already and Low fired.

I like Mueller, he has a great attitude on the pitch and doesn't take himself too seriously. I'm also sick of the French hatred towards the Brits so Germany for me in this one. And yes, I'm old enough to remember that awful tackle, but that was then and this is now.

Just switched over to ESPN for the match and the first fan I see is wearing a One2One Everton shirt – good on ya, lad!
