Whenever I look around at the various official merchandise, namely graphic tees/sweats etc there is never anything that really inspires me. Who is it at the club that designs all the gear that so many fans would snap up if it was actually any good? With merchandising being such a huge moneyspinner at various other clubs, why do we constantly fall short in this area?
The replica tops I would imagine are the highest seller in there, and understandably so, however apart from the occasional polo that looks quite smart, everything else looks like something you'd find in TK Maxx or Primani.
Is there no call for it or is it just laziness on the club's part? Is it ok to just hope that everyone will buy the garments just because it's got an Everton crest on it?
The less said about last year the better, I'm sure that there was a downturn in sales, apart from the replica shirt maybe, because of that badge. We had an ideal opportunity to really cash in on the Nike tick element of the brand and still managed to fuck it up. Only Everton could take such a huge brand and make a cock up of it...
I'm a Fashion Graphic Designer by trade, and design clothing for companies such as Creative Recreation, Cruyff, JD Sports and Footasylum and it really pains me to see how this great club can fail, season after season, to really push the boat out and get some decent designs into the stores and really capitalise on such a huge market. Every t-shirt, every sweat, every jacket is a walking advertisment for the club, but when no-one is really buying it, you aren't advertising anything...

Actually, I think you'll find Nike had a large input on the ill-feted crest design so perhaps you give them way too much credit in your piece. Also, given your credentials, would you not be better sending your observations (preferably containing some better suggestions) to Kitbag? They are the merchandising operation and, although EFC have an input to their content, Kitbag are the ones who have the suppliers, write the cheques, etc so they will be in charge of design and present their completed suggestions to EFC - not the other way around.

Generally I think the training gear is the dogs bollocks.
Always end up buying a top each year.
I bought the plain black Nike polo t-shirt last year. Looks great and I also bought the grey fleece. Got one for my arl fella too for Christmas.
It's been a while since I bought a replica top, I always end up with the training gear and polo shirts.
No complaint from me in this aspect.
Just because you do not feel they are up to scratch Andy, doesn't mean others don't.

I agree Andy. From the Training range the only half decent top is the navy blue / royal blue thin hooped Polo although having Chang on the collar looks naff.
Rest of it is dullsville.
As for the kits, home shirt is excellent, away kit is underwhelming and unimaginative. Bought the home shirt for me and my daughter. Wouldn't bother with anything else I have seen so far this season, and on the subject of girls, other than the diamanté studded crest t-shirts we did a year or two ago, my daughter has been unimpressed by all of it.
Big opportunity gone begging, but as it is outsourced what else do you really expect???.
