Gerard Deulofeu has completed the switch to Europa League winners Sevilla on a season-long loan. Hopes that he might return to Everton seemed to finally fade when Luis Enrique rather amazingly claimed that “Gerard Deulofeu was wasted last year. They tried to kill his flair and vision. That won't happen at Seville.”
Deulofeu returned to Barcelona this summer after spending last season on loan at Premier League side Everton, but the 20-year-old forward was today paraded at a press conference after joining Sevilla for the 2014-15 campaign.
The Spain international admitted he was very happy with his switch to the Europa League winners, but was not expecting to be leaving the Nou Camp again so soon.
He said at his official presentation; "I'm very happy to be here, (new Barcelona coach) Luis Enrique told me that I wouldn't be playing, and from the first moment I had my mind set on coming to Sevilla.
"It's a very good club, I have high expectations and hopefully we can have a great year together. "
He added of his departure from Barca: "I was surprised by the decision that the manager took, but I'm going to enjoy this year very much. I want to focus on Sevilla."
Deulofeu showed glimpses of his undoubted attacking ability during his time with Everton, but the Barca youth product admits he is not the finished article in other aspects of his game.
He said: "I could be stronger with my defending, I'm going to work on that I hope that it's a better year than last, which wasn't bad but I failed to take that little step forward and I hope to be able to do it here.
"I want to have a good year because it's key for my career."

Stunning comments from Enrique. Hopefully something lost in translation there. This might sound bitter, but I thought that Deulofeu showed plenty of promise, but lacked the end product. Yes he scored a couple of great goals, not least away at Arsenal, but overall he was inconsistent – to be expected given his age/experience.
I did want to see him back at Everton and would've expected him to play a bigger role. I really thought he'd be excellent away from home when we possibly needed to play a more counter-attacking style, but with the Atsu deal flagged early, I didn't think it likely to happen.
Still hoping that there's a couple of signings left – loan or permanent – to give us some options.

That Enrique quote needs removing, it was a complete load of shite by a Kopite-skitting-Everton Twitter account. The fact the Daily Mail printed it just goes to show the state of these tabloids, and should also be a lesson not to read that shite... come on ToffeeWeb, you can keep your standards better than that!

Damn – I had a soft spot for Barça, the Catalan stuff, and 20th Century culture in the lovely city, and the Civil War with Madrid veering towards Franco – not to mention the possibility of us picking up one or two sparkling academy players on loan...
BUT – First, sewer-rat – I thought they had a touch more class than that... so, in effect, Barça are now the new apologetic Red&Blueshite. And, second, this unbelievable shite from Enrique! What utter bollocks, the tapas trolling piece of shit.
Ah, Seville is such a beautiful city. Last time there after female Ferry had (to her horror!) eaten bulls balls after the last bullfight in October, we were sitting outside at 1am with that constant smell of oranges in the air, sipping sangria and eating fish tapas. Ahhhh! Lucky GD!
So fuck Barça, and this stream of talented kids that has just dried up; itÂs Athletico and the Guggenheim Museum at Bilbao for me from now on.
