First time back home in 10 years
By Andy Osborne 21/10/2014
I am an ex-pat Scouser and former season ticket holder in the 80s. I live in Perth, Australia, and I haven't been back to the UK for over 10 years. A situation that will be rectified over the Christmas and New Year period. It is particularly exciting because I have 3 sons (12, 11 and 9) who are all mad Evertonians. So, amongst meeting family and friends and the various site-seeing and visits down Memory Lane we are planning to do, I want to make Everton a big part of our trip.
So, the reason for this article: I wanted to ask advice about the best way to get tickets and to get ideas on what "Everton" stuff we can do while are in the UK. I want to try and get to all the home and away games – that currently means Stoke (H), Newcastle (A), Hull (A) and Man City (H), with an FA Cup game, as yet still to be announced.
I have registered online and have membership numbers, but I don't think I can buy tickets until much closer to the game day. This is a one-off for me, so I don't want to miss out... can anyone tell me the best way to get tickets, so I can be confident that my boys and I will see the games?
The obligatory stadium tour, visits to Everton One and Two, stocking up on merchandise, are all included in the plan, but is there anything else we can do? Does anyone know if fans can visit Finch Farm? Is there a way of meeting some of the players to get autographs? It's probably too short notice, but how do you get kids lined up to be matchday mascots?
Any ideas, advice will be most welcome. Thanks.

Glad to see you brought the boys up properly Andy ! Tickets come online a few weeks before the game but by the time it gets to general sale you might have to settle for obstructed views - some of them aren't too bad though. There is also Stub Hub which is linked to the official club site. Away games is another story ,you need qualifying purchases. Don't know about Finch Farm but you could try contacting the club Someone on here might have a contact name.? Enjoy your trip mate.

I have a great idea and one that not many seem to do these days which I can guarantee once back home will be in full show once blown up in your living room.
Get down to the district of Everton and the Everton Brow. I took my little boy there over the summer when I was over from the Isle of Man visiting family and jumped over the fence to have my picture taken standing next to Rupert's Tower. I don't need to explain what it is as I'm sure you know, but a great idea and a brilliant picture. I had blown up onto a canvas. It provides a smile every time I see it:

Hi Andy, sorry for the off-topic. I will be in the Perth area in the beginning of December. Obviously will visit the city and will go to Fremantle, Rottnest, tour down to Margaret River. Are there any things I really MUST do or see that you can think of??

Erik - Hillary's is a decent harbor with restaurants shops, beach etc. Kings Park is a decent day out, good views over the city and nice gardens. Scarborough and Cottesloe are most popular beaches. I think they do tours of the WACCA if you are into Cricket.

Hi Andy,
I have two boys who are aged 9 and 13 and we all sit together in the Family Enclosure. If you can get seats in there in either Rows A, B, C or D, you are right on pitch level so your kids see the players close up when they are near the touchline.
On matchday, if you get there early, about two hours before kick-off, and hang around at the back of Park End stand, all the players park their cars in that car park. We have bought shirts and footballs and had them signed by most of the squad by doing this. We have also done the same after the match and had the same success. Make sure you get a camera and a decent marker pen.
It's also worth checking out the church next to Goodison as they have exhibitions on for matchdays of Everton memorabilia. I have also done what Craig has done and paid a visit to Rupert's Tower. You can get some great pictures if you can skip the fence.
Last of all, and the most expensive, is the Player of the Month awards. They are held in the Hilton Hotel in the city centre. They are expensive but you get a nice meal and an opportunity to meet whoever is Player of the Month.
Have a great trip and make sure you wear your shirts in Perth to spread the word!

Tony, register on the away teams websites for tickets, so long as you have a none 'L' postcode you will have no problem. I did this for Hull last season, pick up on the day. Hull is 'away team friendly' and the car journey is no problem, plenty of parking at the ground.
Another tip is to go (if you have one) to your sat nav website and see if they have a set of UK maps to download. On mine, I paid $30 for a 1-month download.
Home tickets; There has been a massive up-take in season tickets this season, which must lead to a lack of spares for the one-off punter... so, depending how flush you are, and what your UK sleeping arrangements are, you are guaranteed tickets with the Thomas Cook hotel package. We stayed at the Indigo (cracking English Breakfast) in Chapel Street, handy for the bus/train. Taxis to the ground might be okay, but when 40k let out all at once, they can be a bit scarce. An expensive way to do things? Yes, but you get your ticket... City especially.
The Ground tour... well worth it, 㾶, book on line.
Be aware that at a whim, The Sky bastards can change the game day from Saturday to Sunday, or to Monday night.

Erik, if you have kids the the beaches are great, Adventure World is okay but not as good as the versions in the UK or Europe. Bussleton is good, if you are in the Margaret River area. Make sure you visit the wineries in the Swan Valley and Perth Hills.
I am biased, but we have a restaurant/winery in Darlington. It's a nice day out. Further afield, the Pinnacles, Yanchep, Moore River, and even Albany. Have a great trip.

Tickets in the suites come available sooner,,,,so for the more difficult home games try corporate hospitality. At the cheaper end might not be a killer for you..particularly since you already have a boatload invested in your trip home.
Last year I think I paid 65 pounds per person for 5 of us for the Holiday home game v the saints. Only way I could guarantee seats together early. Met Duncan Mckenzie and Jinky Jim Pearson as an added bonus.

Wow, Paul,
Going from Judith Chalmers holiday guidance to slagging Ossie in 1 simple step must be some kind of record, even for experienced TWers.....

More like a glitch in the website Brian, same thing has happened on the Trust Everton thread.

Andy when you get to meet Ossie waiting for autographs at the back of the park end come match day you may wanna pass on Paul McGinty's#865 bench recommendations and advise him he must try harder.
I'm not too sure how this 'Leon experience' will pan out but you'll get some great pics whilst informing him he should be benched until further notice.

Andy, I would simply write to the club. If Graeme Sharpe is still the Fans Liaison Officer, that would be a great start.
Everton's administration can sometimes leave to be desired but one thing that they are generally very good at is fan / community liaison. Explain your situation and I'm sure that they'll help you. However, I doubt whether they'll be able to assist with the away matches.
Home games around Christmas are always especially well attended and, as someone else has already mentioned on the thread, there are over 30,000 season ticket holders this season, so many of the seats that go on general sale will be "restricted" views.
Good luck and enjoy your time over here!

The 'Osman matchday experience' — I wonder if there's a market to be tapped into here... Funny as!

Craig, to be fair, Paul isnÂt really having a dig at Leon, in fact heÂs more complimentary about him than many on here. The truth of the matter is Leon is approaching 34 which is the twilight of his career and itÂs not unusual for players to start spending more time on the bench than the field of play at that time.
Also, when all are fully fit, he is not one of our best XI – no shame in that, he still has a part to play in taking the club forwards.

Eric, in Western Australia at any time between October and May a good sunscreen and sun hat would be the first priority for you and the lads.
A mate and his family arrived here on New Years' day. Ignoring all my strongest advice, they spent about 5 hours on their first day sunbathing at Cottesloe beach wearing only their cossys. The whole family spent the following 2 weeks recuperating from extremely bad sun burn.
A visit to Bunbury Dolphin discovery centre has been a highlight for my visitors.
Wine and fruit growing areas of the southwest region is worth a visit plus miles and miles of pristine beaches and flaming hot weather is guaranteed.
