It's a good job the Stock Exchange isn't open – all this news of Sterling crashing to the ground for no particular reason.

I've said it before and I'll say it again, how bleeding jammy are Spurs!? It's always late wins when they don't deserve it and now a soft red card and they will probably go on to win the game now, bastards!

Colin, if Spurs continue there spawny ways, no matter how good we play, we will lose! But let's hope not!

Plenty of hand wringing on RAWK – it makes beautiful reading, ha ha. Gerrard is getting slated, Rogers's days are numbered and they have pissed the best part of 𧴰 million up the wall. I know this is an Everton website, but their demise is wonderful!

Aldridge thinks he is back in Sunday Football.
I think his team was the Garston Woodcutters

As a Yank, I have no clue who Aldridge is without Googling him. More and more the top 5 looks like us, Chelsea, Southampton and both Manchester clubs.

If FSG manages Liverpool like they do the Red Sox here in the USA, Brenda has another year to turn it around. The owners of FSG have enough bank for a few down-turn seasons but the ego for only 1.

Also, we need Baloteli to score soon or he could be sold in January and I hate to say it, maybe a win for Brenda as he may also be shipped out. We don't want that until he has spent a bit more Yankee dough!!!

What I don't get is why they felt the need to change so much. I hate to admit it, but they were very good in 2013-14. Then they lost Suarez. You'd think you go and replace him but instead they panic and go and get a bunch of new, fairly average players all over the pitch. It's like coming 2nd only served to enlarge Rodger's ego and confidence in himself rather than in his team.
I do love watching his interviews though. Guilty pleasure!

Michael #21, they were very good attacking-wise last season but they were still shite defensively. In a lot of games they simply out-scored the opposition. Even the most partisan red nose knew it and admitted it. As soon as Chewy Suarez took a bite out of Chiellino it was a nap he was off, and their only hope was Sturridge maintained his form without him. With his injury troubles this season I don't think anyone is surprised they are languishing where they are. They've now lost 6 games – same as they lost all of last season.
Rodgers has made a lot of over-priced poor signings, and actually freezes a lot of them out quite quickly. Borini – 㾸m; now talk of flogging Balotelli in January.
They came close to winning the league last season, but they should've been nowhere near it with that defence. And with their track record of monopolising luck , I am surprised they didn't win. The fact that it was Gerrard who blew it makes me think there might be a God after all.
I don't bother to lurk on RAWK, but a peek at the Red Echo comments page after the game was a delight. Unanimous – Rodgers has to go. They were split between who should replace him though. King Rafa, or King Kenny...

Cheers Mike @17. You seem to suggest that FSG have an urgent need to be shining bright at the top of the pile. Lying in 12th position with a goal difference of minus 3 must cause rumblings in the corridors of power. What a fiasco. What a laugh. We moan about 㿈M but they've emptied half of Fort Knox.

Liverpool are missing two obvious things: last season they had not only Suarez but regular rub of the green. Yes they were very good but a million little things went their way and that isn't happening this time around, to general hilarity.

I do not crow as it often comes back to bite you. A stable defence is paramount and that has been illustrated by the likes of Chelsea, Southampton and ourselves. We have had virtually the same defence for ages. An odd change due to injury's but no more than that.
Liverpool, Arsenal, Man Utd and Spurs do not know who their best defenders are and Man City are also beginning to waver. I am delighted to see so called lesser clubs wiping the smiles off certain faces. The media never stop talking about the so-called top guns and now they talking 'crisis' which makes me really smirk :0)

This is Rodgers's third season in charge: average in the first, did well last year and slipped back this. Not to mention the money he has wasted along the way, and not just this summer. He is a poor manager and has absolutely zero personality and sadly they will get shut soon by the looks of things.

I think it's nasty, unpleasant and generally small-minded to sneer at the misfortune of others. Therefore I don't do it.
However, I always make an exception in the case of the Redshite. I don't necessarily revel in it to their faces (we know how quickly those loveable laugh-a-minute reds can turn when they have to take it rather than give it – and, btw, never stand near a wall when they get angry.)
But private moments of joy such as looking at the comments on their blog on The Echo website (yes, that looks and sounds like a lynch mob, Brenda) are never to be missed. They even lost WITHOUT Ballotelli playing which makes things even sweeter.

Trevor. Spot on with the defensive business. Wenger is missing the great back 4 who gave him a good start, Man Utd are struggling without Ferdinhand and Vidic, Man City can't manage without Kompany etc, etc.
Our own outstanding back 4 have helped Roberto on his way although he did strengthen things with McCarthy and Barry. Okay, we're not the only ones with a decent defence but it gives me extra confidence for future fixtures.

Hey Harold, I played midfield in the old 3rd division north and we were always hard to beat as our manager of the time said that success is built from the back and I reckon that is pretty accurate. When a team is struggling or short of financial clout the only way to grind out results is to defend well and try to hit on the break.
Lets face it we were pretty awful to watch a few years ago and tended to rely on set pieces to score.even when we made top four we tended to spoil rather than play which was reflected in our goals average.DM rescued an ailing side by using those tactics so that we could compete. We eventually got together a side who could play a bit and Roberto has improved it further, but the defence has been our mainstay throughout.Arsenal used to be called the one nil side and they based their play on being difficult to score against. You are perfectly correct when saying UTD miss Ferdinand and Vidic as they were the teams foundations. All the best UTD teams concentrated on having top class defenders as did Liverpool years before.Luckily Roberto recognised it in our squad and has not tampered with it.The early season goals against were a big shock as we were not used to conceding so many. Now the ship seems much more settled and results have shown the improvement.Wolfsburg will be a huge test as they are a top team and will give us a yardstick as to how well we will do in the rest of the European venture.

The final match of this weekend's games sees Aston Villa play Southampton. Interesting to note that, as good as Southampton have started the season, they have only played two teams who you would consider to be challenging for the European places towards the end of this season, spurs and Liverpool, and lost them both.
They have a pretty tough couple of months coming up, when they play the likes of Man City, Man Utd, Arsenal, Chelsea and Everton. In fact seven of their next ten league games are against those five teams. They've also got Palace, Newcastle and Burnley away. If they can come through these ten games unscathed, then you would have to consider them a threat for a European place. Somehow I can't see it and would expect them to slowly slip down the table.

Lewis Hamilton wining the title was great.

Good bit of research there, Rob. Like you, I can't see them maintaining their position with such a tough run of games coming up, but you never know. I'd rather they finished in the top four than one of the so-called big teams – I'm all for the underdog and the Saints play decent football, too.

I agree kev, you never know!! It's a funny old game as Greavsie used to say. I've only seen Southampton once this season, their first game against Liverpool which they lost but I thought they were unlucky not to win. Will watch with interest tonight. Sooner or later villa will score and win a game and sooner or later Southampton will lose. Should be a good game tonight.
