The Mirror investigates
By Lee Whitehead 25/11/2014
I've just been reading an article in
The Mirror. They sent a letter to 3 players at every club in the Premier League asking for a signed photo.
Only 18 of the 60 players bothered to reply, most didn't respond to the request. Of all the letters sent to all the clubs, guess who was the very first club to send 3 signed photos? You got it — our beloved EFC.
Leighton, Rom and Timmy were the very first to send their signed photos!
Just shows why we love our great club!
Well done, guys.

Apparently they sent one to ........
Suarez but he's still chewing it over.
Stevie G but he let it slip.
Rooney but he couldn't read it.
Boom, boom!

Lee, well done our lads. I can't understand the lack of engagement and sensitivity by some players. I'm sure they get lots of requests etc but on their salary they can afford a PA. (Rom, if you're reading, I can PA as well as the next man.)

Well done lads, not only for themselves, but in representing our Club. This must have completely thrown the journos at the Mirror who normally haven't got a good thing to say about EFC or our fans!

I could tell of something far greater than the story above. I have been involved in two charity events in the past few years, one involving a mate of mine who was diagnosed with motor neurone disease (MND), and another involving a family of five children, who sadly lost both their parents.
For the first one, my mate, we actually had two charity nights to raise as much money as possible, to send him abroad for stem-cell treatment, which is not available in this country. With the help of Alan Harper, we got in touch with both Everton and Liverpool asking for items we could use for raffle prizes, and items for auction. EFC gave us all sorts, including signed shirts, footballs, gloves, boots and individual signed photos, and various other things. LFC? Well, after a while and 2 or 3 requests, we managed to get a signed photo of Gerrard with the Champions League trophy in 2005. And that was it!!
The other charity night was actually organised by the wife and some of her friends from work. As I said, it was in aid of five young kids who had lost both their parents. Again, we wrote to both clubs for items to raffle etc. EFC, with the help of Graeme Sharp, who got in touch with the missus to find out more of the event, were brilliant. We managed to get signed shirts, footballs, as well as tickets for a match and also tickets for a tour of the stadium. LFC?, Well they sent nothing. The missus wrote again to them asking for raffle prizes, their response was "we get requests everyday and cannot accommodate them all". The missus again wrote saying what Everton had provided. A few days later a parcel was shoved through the door. It contained an LFC away signed shirt. Unfortunately the shirt was from a strip five years old. We put it straight in the bin.
So I can clearly relate to the story above, Everton FC clearly are the People's Club in this city who will do all they can to help people in the community. Liverpool FC? Well the less said the better!!

These anecdotes appear to show genuine differences between the two clubs. However, if the RS become aware of their shortcomings, they'll have cameras everywhere as usual.
I can never forget how they turned their belated 'apology' to Juventus fans a few years ago into a media circus in order to make them come out smelling of roses (despite 39 dead Italians).
Shameless, toe-curling scumbags.
Bitter and small-minded, I know, but they are two of my better points so I can live with that.

Cheeky red bastards behave like that towards charitable requests, then launch their own Dan Aid.

Mike, a friend I know worked for LCC and the year after Heysel she was responsible for showing a contingent of representatives from Juventus around our city. This included a visit to both football clubs and she commented at the hospitality shown to the Italians by both football clubs. She said the welcome they were given by Everton compared to the RS you would have thought it was Everton who had been involved in Heysel – not the RS.
