Sepp Blatter resigns
By ToffeeWeb
02/06/2015
The head FIFA honcho has bowed to public pressure (or seen the writing on the FBI's wall) and stepped down as president despite standing for and being re-elected just days ago.
Blatter announced that an extraordinary general meeting will be called to name his successor in the coming days.
"Although the members of Fifa gave me a new mandate, this mandate does not seem to be supported by everyone in the world," he said during a speech at a hastily-arranged press conference today.

Excellent news. The question is, what has happened to force his hand? I wonder if heÂs been told that he could be next to be arrested?

Apparently, the DA is going to make public the charges against Chuck Blazer in a few hours. The proverbial is going to hit the fan and I guess Sepp wants to get out the way while heÂs got a chance to escape.

Time to clean up football. I just hope heÂs not allowed to appoint his cronies to cover his tracks.

Now Qatar and Russia should be elbowed unless
they can prove the bids werenÂt bent.
Their computers were cleared of everything and they smugly went "well youze prove it was iffy lid, coz we swear down it fuckin wasnÂt" (or whatever).
IÂd say ÂyouÂve got a week to show lack of iffiness or weÂre fucking you offÂ.
And even if Russia keep it, Qatar should be fucked off immediately.
Basically (literally) hundreds of workers there are dying and living like slaves.
Uefa should have fucked them off, so should Dyke - hope the FBI lock them all up.

I think he is going to have to stand on a step ladder to keep his head above the pile of carp that is this scandal. (with thanks to Peter Dennis for the original joke)

Qatar must be reversed. Politically, RussiaÂs human rights record is not exactly pristine so yanking from one and not the other is problematic. But the ludicrous decision to award Qatar the cup despite crazy temperatures and against the advice of the technical committee was absurd. The compromise to move it to December came only afterwards and was not factored in the bidding process.

Just popped round to give my Russian neighbour the news. I told him the power of ToffeeWeb had done for his countryÂs hero. He told me Sepp would always get a welcome in his land. (They will probably name a Gulag after him - when the Yanks let him out !)

ThereÂs probably not enough time to take it off the Russians. I still hope we will boycott the homophobic, racist, dictatorial, expansionist, xenophobic Russian games. It would be akin to the Berlin Olympics which is still a stain on the IOC.
The Qatari bid has to be overturned, even if it was legit, thereÂs no way in hell our lads should be playing on a bloodstained, homophobic, dictatorial pitch in the desert heat.

Who was it on the other thread who said Blatter would come up with some reason not to head to Canada for the WomenÂs World Cup? Never good to host it in a country that borders the FBI.
His second in command has dodged it too. Nothing to do with having sanctioned 㾶M payment for Âfootballing projects of course, but to stay in Zurich to Âfight the chargesÂ.
But in all honesty, IÂd even quit as head of FIFA if it meant avoiding the WomenÂs World Cup.

So, he does the honourable thing when the flames are licking around his feet, resigns, but not effectively for 6-9 months, and picks up ٣-7.5M salary during that time.
And we are chuckling at his downfall?

I read earlier that the Americans didnÂt start out investigating FIFA, it was a by-product of checking out some Russian Mafia types that led to the authorities stumbling upon evidence which implicated some FIFA representatives.

UK will not press for Qatar to lose World Cup.
Why? – Qatar are our biggest supplier of Natural Gas and they are our third largest importer in the Middle East.
Politics and Economics will not change World Cup Qatar – now that Blatter is out.

What makes anyone think anything will change except who gets to be in power and bribed to award World Cup spots? Unless blown up and restructured at the base of the organization all the way to the top, the inherent structure of FIFA will just yield no transparency and the same graft and corruption but only with new faces. Blatter was adamant against any wrongdoing on his part last week and promised to be the crimedog.
I wonder if several of the major sponsors and several replacement sponsors of similar stature bent his ear with whispers of withdrawing and lawsuits if he remained in charge? I wonder if Russia has the equivalent of Nike, Adidas, Coke, Pepsi, and all of the other big sponsors to step in and replace them?

ItÂs funny how Blatter said that all this posturing over Qatar was just racism from Europe – despite UEFA backing Prince Ali from Jordan in the recent "election".
To be fair to Blatter, he did do a lot to prove their organisation was not racist. White, brown, yellow – they didnÂt care what colour the envelopes were.
IÂd like to meet the fat corrupt get, then shake his hand of course.

Just dreaming...
As part of its World Cup bid, Qatar is building 10 state-of-the-art air-conditioned stadiums, each with a seated capacity in excess of 50,000. At conclusion of the World Cup, most were to be dismantled and donated to other countries.
The ball, as they say, is in Kenwright's court; they might even throw in a spare Sheikh.
Go Bill, your life long 24/7 search might be at an end.

Dick #25, I think theyÂve scaled it back to 8, and I think the ones that are being donated have all been promised to countries in Africa (who no doubt voted for Qatar).
When Ebola was doing itÂs stuff and threatening to wreak havoc with this yearÂs AFCON, Qatar even offered to host the tournament...

"This mandate does not seem to be supported by everyone in the world" even at the end, disillusioned that everyone in the world was waving Blatter banners before. The man is an imbecile and I hope he faces charges rather than developing some phantom illness.

Matt, 26, you are correct, my info on the stadia is many years old. I am a bit puzzled about the Africa connection. After a recent Australian TV documentary about that county's World Cup stadiums already derelict and falling into disrepair simply because the populace cannot afford them.
As for the farce of Qatar, only last week another Oz doco showed a recent Qatar vs Bangladesh international in a massive stadium with crowd of approx 250 most of whom were ex pat Bangladeshi workers. Entry to the game was free.

Why, with an investigation about him going on, is this man still at his desk, purportedly working hard to sort out FIFAÂs future?
Sounds as if he is covering his tracks and should be put on gardening leave pro tanto – and the keys to his office taken off him.

Brin @30, thatÂs something I wondering about too. He is undoubtedly a cunning man, so I imagine that by resigning but crucially being able to stay in situ for months (until after the election) he will have the opportunity to cover some of his tracks, remove documents, lean on or further bribe co-collaborators etc. In an ideal world, he would be frog-marched out of his FIFA "palace" back door and given no opportunity to return not even to clear his desk.
I imagine ejecting him now should be possible given the levels of the very serious accusations flying around. Whilst he has not been charged and therefore remains "innocent in the eyes of the law", you would hope that either the Swiss authorities, the FBI or even FIFA itself would as you suggest put him on gardening leave and out of his office, effective immediately.
