Where are they now? Valencia!
Former Everton captain Phil Neville is set to be named as the assistant coach at Spanish La Liga side Valencia.
The ex-defender/midfielder has been doing co-commentary work since leaving his assistant managerial role at Manchester United when David Moyes was dismissed last year but he has now grabbed an opportunity to broaden his horizons in Spain with talks set to be concluded soon.
Valencia are owned by Singapore businessman, Peter Lam, who also part-owns Salford City, the Manchester outfit which Neville established with his Class of '92 peers.

An ex-captain of ours has just been named the Valencia assistant coach!
Imagine if we gave him a testimonial?

I would have thought that our old friend Captain Pip Backpass would have joined his mate Davey at Sociedad.
Obviously not. Good luck to him.

I think this is down to the Salford City connection Ross.

Good luck to him. He canÂt do any worse than heÂs doing as a pundit for the BBC.

Maybe heÂll get his normal voice back instead of trying to sound like a snooker commentator.

Good luck to Neville, I feel he will do well. He was a great captain and servant for Everton.

Jack Cross, sorry I have to disagree with your comment about Âgreat captain and servantÂ... Moyes was infatuated with him towards the end of both their times at Everton. He would play him in ANY position, despite recognised full backs and mid-fielders being fit to play.
I canÂt forget the Wigan FA Cup debacle and THAT pass across the back four ,straight to McManaman. If memory serves me correct, I think Moyes threw him straight back in after injury, with dire consequences.
I believe he was one of the highest paid employees at the time, certainly towards the end of his spell at Everton, and Moyes made sure he was always the first player to be offered a new or extension to his contract, along with fellow ÂdisciplesÂ, Osman and Hibbert, who are still at the club. CanÂt help thinking those collective salaries/packages could have been used elsewhere to attract younger, hungrier players.
ThereÂs no doubt about it, from a playerÂs perspective, if Moyes wanted you to stick around, and be part of his Âyes gangÂ, he would make sure you were well looked after. Probably to the detriment of other squad or developing players.

Yes, I wish we could get away from this describing players as great servants. They are all professionals being paid huge sums of money to play the game they love, or at any rate loved at one time. They should be grateful to us, not vice versa.
Anyway, good luck to Neville who seemed a decent bloke when he was with us, and always did his best despite his limitations. It is not his fault he was teacherÂs pet.
