Howard backs down in Friedel flap

Tim Howard says that he has instructed his publisher to amend future editions of his autobiography to remove accusations that his compatriot Brad Friedel put obstacles in the way of him obtaining a work permit when he first signed for Manchester United.

"I have decided to take Brad at his word," Howard says in a statement.
