More dubious transfer links
As the transfer merry-go-round starts turning in earnest, Everton continue to be mentioned in connection with a number of players from a slew of unreliable sources. The Blues are credited by The Express with interest in Lyon midfielder Clement Grenier who has apparently asked for a transfer from the Ligue 1 side to further his career but is "ready to spurn interest from Everton, Newcastle and Southampton," with Arsenal his highest profile suitors.
The Daily Star, meanwhile, claim that Chelsea have changed their mind again and are keen on keeping Romelu Lukaku which means that Roberto Martinez has turned his attentions to Colombian striker, Carlos Bacca.
On the topic of Lukaku, feverish rumours on Twitter on Thursday night suggested that staff at Everton's megastores have been told to prepare shirts with "Lukaku" and the number 10 in expectation of the Blues landing the Belgian on a permanent deal. PaddyPower went as far as to suspend betting on Lukaku joining Everton.
Another reputed long-time Martinez target Tom Cleverley could spurn any attempts by Louis van Gaal to keep him at Old Trafford and Everton are "monitoring developments," according to the Daily Mail.
Over in Spain, Ever Banega's apparent restlessness is ensuring that his name keeps getting mentioned in the same sentence as Everton, with Southampton also supposedly interested in the Argentinian midfielder.
The latest name to be raised in connection with Everton is Rubin Kazan midfielder, Roman Eremenko, who has apparently been nicknamed the "Finnish Xavi" and who is reportedly also wanted by CSKA Moscow and Zenit St Petersburg.
On the other side of the negotiating table, Manchester City are supposedly eyeing Ross Barkley as a replacement for unsettled Yaya Toure. And Shoot further the claim that Arsenal are looking at tempting John Stones away from Goodison Park.
