After Arsenals "rubbish result" maybe they should get rid of all their players and buy a new team..

My concern is that likes of Lennon, Evans and Austin may prove inferior to the likes of Payet, Ogbonna and Rondon. Time will tell.

Lennon - while not an imaginative signing, it seems a no brainer not to buy him given the impact he made last season. Hopefully he wont cost more than 5m

Austin - I think we're be lucky to sign him, but if we do, the goalscoring is isn't a doubt for me. He's not another James Beattie. He's been prolific at every level. Neither is he another AJ who was only a 20 goal striker for one season in his career, and about half of those goals were penalties. My only question mark would be the condition of his knee. As I said on another thread, if talks progress, he'll be lucky to pass a medical given our track record for cancelling deals on failed mdeicals. If it was to go through. I think a 15m fee is worth every penny as long as the payments are staggered, so we can protect our investment if he does get crocked.

Of course the club would like to sign players earlier, but agents like to leave it until as late as possible to try to get competing bids and a better deal for their player (and themselves).

While the transfer window remains open, as I've stated, it isn't the lack of signings that's letting us down. Its the injury list. Add Baines, Gibson, Besic, McGeady, Pienaar and Deulofeu to what we had on Saturday and Im sure we would have won.

We have just twelve outfield players to choose from next Saturday if Mirallas is unfit.Besic and Deulofeu are only hopefuls.

We are being run in a very amateurish way and it is difficult to get my head around the club reasons for delaying.No one of any authority is speaking out.Martinez and Barry are just employee's.

If we are right then the rest of the league clubs are wrong !

Chelsea, for instance, are another club who haven't bought lots of players.

Just go and get the players instead of talking about it.

And BTW if we get Johnny Evans I will kick the cat and I have even got one.

The lad is useless and has been sussed by Van Gaal.Even currently Distin is a better player.

Simple question - why don't we have as much money as some of these clubs? Bristol City, Stoke, Crystal Palace?? Very depressing!

Even lads around me on Saturday who aren't in anyway 'moaners' were saying we can't keep playing like we did on Saturday and somethings got to change.

The problem I have with late signings is, aside with the bedding in period, is the wasted games. There will have been 4 by the end of the transfer window and whilst the team may astound me and pluck a few results out of the hat, doubtful I know, its likely they don't and if thats the case then that will probably be 1 point from the first 4 games before finalising your squad. Ridiculous by anybodys standards.

Yes, earlier transfers would be better, but don't be so quick to blame the board for something that is almost certainly outside their control. See #17.

I see your point in post 17, however all the players mentioned were Moyes players. Whilst I agree that McCarthy and Lukaku were good buys (if a little overpriced) I don't really trust Martinez to make quality last minute buys. Moyes had a great scouting network and whilst he dithered in the transfer market, generally (although not all by any means) his buys were spot on. Pienaar, Cahill, Fellaini, Mirallas, Jags etc were not household names. Could even throw in Arteta too. Martinez doesn't appear to have any kind of worthwhile scouting network thats why I'm concerned

I 100% disagree - if Newcastle, West Ham, Swansea and Stoke can sign the likes of Wijnaldum, Payet, Ayew and Affelay, I simply don't accept that we are unable to sign a similar calibre of player. The likes of Lennon and Evans are no where near this type of quality and it's not surprising they are both cast offs and the fact they are now our only serious targets is frankly embarassing. Both players are desperate to find a new premiership club.

It cannot be a money issue as we definitely get at least an extra 30m odd a year now from sky, which will increase even more in 2016.

It cannot have anything to do with the timing of the sky cash pay out. (If I know for certain I will get 100k in 1-2 months time, it doesn't stop me from buying things now - especially when I can defer the payments over x years.)

There is either a refusal by the board to back the manager (for whatever reason but not financial) or these types of players simply don't want to play for the manager (it cannot be the club as I don't accept that Swansea, Stoke etc are considered 'bigger brands' than Everton). It also has nothing to do with the 'London thing' given Stoke and South Wales aren't exactly exotic locations (no offence to any Welsh or people from the black country btw).

We simply cannot attract players of the proper quality right now and that has to have something to do with the manager. Players all talk with each other and gossip about which club/manager is good to be at. The fact that Mirallas, Garbutt and McCarthy all signed extended contracts does not mean that much either, doesn't necessarily mean they fully buy into Martinez's 'vision'. At the end of the day they are getting significantly more money and it's good for the club as their transfer value is higher. The club didnt want to sell two of them and Garbutt is not even with us this season. The rumours about spurs being after McCarthy could have just been bollocks from his agent to get a better contract. No bid was ever made at the end of the day as far as we know. The contracts in no way mean they will be here until they expire.

I hope to be proved wrong in the next 2 weeks but it's certainly worrying that we don't seem to be able to sign anyone of real quality that would significantly improve our side.

Personnally i'd be aiiming to get Bolassie in from Palace, it would at least stop him ripping Coleman apart twice a season.

Its the scouting network that is extremely concerning, Moyes had a habit off plucking players out of a hat, and famously had extensive dossiers prepared on many more. Of course we still had to wait until the last minute to capture them, but somehow I had more confidence then.

Martinez just doesn't seem to have the same network, Kone & McCarthy, players he had worked with previously, Lukaku & Barry known premier league talents and if I'm not mistaken Lukaku was one of those on Moyes radar even before Chelsea went in there for £18m. Mcgeady & Besic have hardly been great successes although I would like to see Besic given more opportunities. Perhaps the only one you can really credit Martinez with is Deulofeu.

There is nothing in any of these signings that suggest Martinez has a plan or direction for our club. Added to that are the extremely confusing press conferences and interviews, I mean seriously watch them back, I wonder if they even make sense to him. I am fed up with hearing its about "positive experiences", about "getting to that level". The season has started and we should be ready, and its not about experiences, primarily its about results, the experiences come later!

This is not a knee jerk reaction to Saturday either, I have been concerned ever since the opening day of last season.

Acquiring Evans and Lennon will not lift the team and excite the fans. We should have been trying for Ayew and Payet who are both decent players. We are crying out for a similar player to Payet . These two alone would fill our stadium and lift the fans.

Some guy on here actually touted Barry as a full back to cover for Baines. We are losing out one by one on every player of any use that we have been linked with. I reckon the board are to blame but I may be wrong !!

The biggest problem with Barry is he is being over played. Martinez can not field a team without him, whether he is in the centre of the park or if he's is moved to the back in a centre back roll or left back roll.

Barry would be a much more effective player for us if we tried to start football matches in the manner we end matches. This way we could play quicker from the off, gain a lead then bring Barry on to shut teams out late on.

Barkley would be ideal to start next to McCarthy especially when we are at home to any team outside of the top 3 sides.

As for signings, we won't sign anyone to excite us, I don't think, Shaqiri was the only name that truly excited me; all the other names are names anyone would expect to be linked with us.
