A tweet by Andreas Böni, the journalist from Favre's native Switzerland who first claimed that the former Borussia Mönchengladbach boss was being considered by the Toffees, quotes him talking to Radio Tele Suisse Sport: "I know that I was on Everton's shortlist, but I did not want to wait." Favre, who resigned from Mönchengladbach last year after a poor start to the season, was appointed as Nice's new manager on a three-year deal on Monday. Prior to that he was credited with turning the Bundesliga club's fortunes around in impressive fashion, leading them into the Champions League. Everton, meanwhile, are in the process of interviewing candidates to replace Roberto Martinez and have not yet been in a position to make a decision. Reports suggest that part of the reason is that they are waiting on the outcome of top target Ronald Koeman's contract negotiations with Southampton where he has 12 months left on his current deal. The appointment of a manager is not an easy task, although Everton made it look easy when they appointed Moyes and Martinez. I would think that at this particular juncture, getting the right manager for Everton FC is perhaps the most crucial appointment the current board are likely to have to make...ever.
