Everton plan bumper pay rise to persuade Lukaku to stay

Everton will use its increased financial muscle to tempt the Belgian striker to remain at Goodison Park, according to reports.

The Daily Mail claim that the club will offer him around £100,000 a week, a 25% increase on his current reported earnings, despite reported interest from the likes of Chelsea and Juventus and the player's own repeated desire to join a new club.

Other rumours have suggested that the offer could be as high as £140,000 which would shatter the club's previously rigid pay structure.

Lukaku has stated on more than one occasion in recent weeks that he wants to be playing Champions League football and that he wants to join a "project" team. While Everton undoubtedly fill the latter brief, there have been suggestions that the 23-year-old hasn't fully settled in the northwest and that, combined with his belief and that of his father that he is ready to join a Champions League-level club mean that it would be difficult to persuade him to stay.
