WSAG is in the process of compiling a book called 'Everton, My Dad & Me'.

It is a collection of stories and personal memories about the relationship between a parent and a child and their passion for Everton.

For us, and for many supporters the love we have for our club stems from a family member – often a father but also a grandfather, a mother, an uncle or an aunt. When publishing some articles on this over the years in the fanzine we were always struck how powerful and moving these pieces were and therefore we’ve decided to ask WSAG contributors and people from other Evertonian sites and beyond to send us their stories for a book.

We have been overwhelmed by the response. We have stories about first games, stories about love, and family feuds, stories about death. What binds them all together is Everton and the noble idea that ‘supporting your team’ is something to be passed on; a legacy. For better or for worse.

To focus on just a couple of stories, we have a wonderful tale about the 1977 FA Cup Semi Final and a bottle of Dubonnet. We have an Icelandic fella who fell in love during the 1986 Cup Final which he watched with his dad who was a Liverpool fan. We have the story of a father who struggles to remember family members but whose eyes twinkle at the memory of Alex Young. We have lads being taken by their granddad and the lad, now older taking his granddaughter, And, we have a heart-rending story of a boy and his Dad separated by divorce but brought back together through Everton and a message on ToffeeWeb.

And that’s only the start.

We can guarantee tears. The stories already confirmed for the book are incredibly moving but they offer so much more. Inside you’ll also find love, warmth and a light that shines throughout the years. It’s enough to make your heart go…

All the pieces in the book will be new or if they have appeared in WSAG they will be significantly re-written.

We are hoping to finalise the selection of pieces by mid October so we have a small window of opportunity for others to submit their stories for inclusion. And that’s where readers of ToffeeWeb come in.

Do you have a story you think we’d be interested in?

Initially, what we’re looking for is a brief outline of your story and we’ll get back you straight away to have a chat about it.

We’ve already had stories about grandads, mums and uncles so we're not sticking rigidly to the concept of 'Dad'! It’s the family link we’re interested in.

So if you’ve a story to tell, please contact Graham at

The plan is to have the book ready for Christmas.

If you would be interested in purchasing the book, we are offering a ‘subscription’ whereby you can pre-order a copy for £25.00 and for that you will receive a special numbered edition with your name listed at the back as one of the supporters of the project. We will even sign it for you if that’s what you want.

The link is here.

We really want to make this happen so please help us by supporting this project. The pre-sale is similar to a kickstarter campaign where we try to raise significant sums of money needed to publish the books. It's a very expensive business but we want to have total control of the books so that probably means that we have to do it ourselves.

The full list of pre-order packages are as follows:

BOOK ONLY - £20.00

You will receive a numbered edition with your name listed as one of the supporters of the project. We will even sign it for you if that’s what you want.

In addition to the book, you will receive a specially commissioned ToffeeArt poster which will be along the lines of the ‘My First Match’ posters seen here

Includes the numbered edition book as detailed in Package A and the poster detailed in Package B.

In addition to the book, you will receive an invite to the launch party for the book. We haven’t got any firm ideas yet but it will be definitely more than a few drinks and a bag of crisps. We may have a WSAG night out, or we might put a few bands on. We're not sure. But whatever it is and whatever it ends up being it will only cost those who pre-order a tenner.

Includes the numbered edition as detailed in Package A and the invitation detailed in Package D.

This is everything. The numbered edition book as detailed in Package A, the poster and the invitation to the launch.

We are also aware that, in addition to the above, some people have expressed a wish to donate to the project. This would be very generous and we’ve set up a link here.

The packages are available immediately and all buyers and supporters will be kept informed of the progress of the project via regular newsletters.

If further information is required, please contact Graham at the email above.

A really fantastic idea which I am sure will provoke many great stories of the bond between families and how the devotion to EFC cascades down the generations even though, like myself, many of them live many miles from Goodison Park.

I will certainly be making a contribution to the book and will be enthusiastically purchasing a copy whether it is used or not.
