FA Cup 4th Round
Kieran Dowell and Nottingham Forest were knocked out by Hull, Newport came within eight minutes of embarrassing Spurs, and David Moyes suffered a bad case of deja vu as his West Ham side lost to Wigan.
Meanwhile, VAR was put through a rigorous examination in an action-packed tie between Liverpool and West Brom.

Nice to see the old boy hasn't lost his ability to fuck it up against Wigan in the Cup.

If anyof the players showed the workrate and attitude that League 2 Newport are showing against Spurs, we wouldn't have been humiliated like we were a couple of weeks ago.
Newport showing exactly what can be done with all out effort and a bit of belief....... oh and they're one up.

West Brom's Rodriguez, quite good actually.

West Brom have had a goal disallowed via VAR, while the RS have been awarded a penalty via VAR. Penalty missed though, so Baggies still 2-1 ahead.

Rob, soon as VAR was called for at Anfield by them... it's a no-brainer, mate.

There was no appealing by the RS players for offside for the West Brom disallowed goal, but they were up in arms for the penalty which Salah made a complete meal of. He went down far too easily, very much like Lallana against us.

West Brom 3-1 at half time.Third goal was referred to VAR again but eventually stood. Only thing is all this added 5 minutes additional time on in the first half.

2 VAR decisions in favour of the RS and they still get beat. Well done West Brom.

Will the VAR protest be
A - A flag waving one
B - An Online Petiton
C - A march

VAR is completely unready for use. The premise has merit; the reality under trial is a car crash.
Football has in its own arrogance tried to implement a rolling live system. It offers the players no guidance nor enlightenment for fans.
The arrogance is taken so far that they've failed to build on referral systems used in tennis, cricket and hockey which frame the question by using a challenge to limit what will become a free for all in football if it's fully implemented in its current guise.
Whoever was present at the design and creation phase was utterly off beam. The system such as it is adds temperature to the situation and only leaves the taste of dissatisfaction with all concerned.
Two challenges per team that must be initiated within a time limit by the players only. Once you've burned em tough titty! You will never solve that issue in a game with a rolling clock.
Personally I can still do without it, but money and greed will eventually force us into some version of this cumbersome way to settle the game we love.

We all may laugh but it's another team added to the long list who have shown us up by the way they play at Anfield.

Or you could look at it from the opposite angle and say we drew with West Brom whereas they got battered by 'em.
Depends if that glass is half-full or half-empty. ;-)

I thought West Brom would do a number on them. Yes, we're already out but let's just laugh at the RS. Just for once, the boot's on the other foot. Hope they lose a few more.

I thought Liverpool were pretty complacent actually, completely under-estimated West Brom.
Barry ran the game and I was dismayed when they subbed him, co-incided with Liverpool's resurgence in the game.
Who let him go again?

Good performance by West Brom, they're on fire at the moment, won three out of their last four. In fact, the only team to hold them to a draw is the mighty Everton.
VAR can fuck right off though, takes all the flow out of the game.

I understand and can accept the ball over the line thing as it's instantaneous.
VAR is a step too far.
A big part of footy is the mistakes and decisions. Without them, what would we spend hours, weeks and years arguing about at work and in the pubs.
Footy is about opinions and human mistakes let's leave it at that and enjoy it.

I see Leicester have uncovered another potential gem in Diabate. I know it was lower league opposition but barring Lookman and now perhaps Walcott, we've no one like that in our side.
As I said before, it's very possible that Walsh took the credit for one of his direct's talent spotting.

VAR can be used properly if they let the fans see what is being scrutinised but we aren't important are we?
Also could somebody please tell me why their penalty yesterday and the one against us in the previous round are not exaggerated dives. Niasse gets banned for exactly the same thing but it's okay for that cheating bunch of gits.

This Jay Rodrigues looks a player now that West Brom are coming over the half-way line. Wonder why nobody suggested him?

Alan Pardew saying VAR may have contributed to four of his players picking up injuries, due to the break in play. None of his players picked up any injury last week when McCarthy was injured and play was halted for well over 5 minutes before restarting. Pretty poor excuse for a reason not to use VAR.

I see Danny Murphy made himself look a clown again on MOTD.
Apparently VAR didn't help Liverpool even though they got a penalty from it and it also ruled out a West Brom goal.
The guy is a prize beaut.

Having been ribbed (taken the piss of) by RS colleagues, ie, just one trip to Wembley then to play Spurs you poor thing yesterday's result will be a godsend on Monday. Small victories I know but in this season of all seasons a definite godsend.

I live on the South Coast and mid evening started to hear a strange, haunting type of sound... Took a while to realise it was the Koppites going into meltdown. Funny, not so many RS shirts about on Monday. The high point of the season.
