The giant with the gold curling hair
Back in the 60s when our fans were very creative with their songwriting ,with many being born on the journeys to away games, can anyone tell me if an Everton song was ever adapted to
Kelly the Boy from Killane?
If so, it would likely to have been to tried out to this verse below:Tell me who is the giant with the gold curling hair,
he who rides at the head of your band?
Seven feet is his height with some inches to spare
And he looks like a king in command.
Oh me boys that's the pride of the bold Shelmalier,
mongst our greatest of heroes a man
Fling your beavers aloft and give three ringing cheers,
for John Kelly, the boy from Killane.
Thank you

Remember us all belting this out in '66 in a pub off Leicester Square after the Cup Final – can't remember the words, but the subject was definitely Alex Young. It was followed by 'The Ballad of the Green Berets', with a verse for each member of the team – can't remember those words either!

Thanks Trevor!
I'd imagine then our words would have been very similar to the original. It's the type of song that you'd only need to change a few words to.
I wonder if it ended something like "Alex Young from Midlothian"? Or "Alex Young the boy from Scotland"?
Do you know if we also had one to the tune Sean South from Garryowen back then too?

So Dermot it was yourself who was seen snoozing at the match last night then, and there was us thinking it was because of the football!
