Donkor returns for second loan spell

Anton Donkor will get a second chance to impress David Unsworth after he finalised a six-month-long switch from Wolfsburg.

The German U20 forward originally joined Everton's Under-23s on loan in January, hoping to earn a permanent transfer to the Blues but his spell was cut short by injury.

He is now back at Finch Farm after a second loan was agreed with his parent club that will keep him on Merseyside until January next year.

“I'm very happy to be back,” Donkor told evertonfc.com. “I'm looking forward to pre-season to show my teammates and the fans that it was the right decision for the Club to re-sign me. I'm very proud to be here and I want to show my best performances.

“I started very well here last season but the ankle injury was a big disappointment. I was out for about eight weeks and I had to go back to Germany and do all my treatment. But I got fit again quickly and now I'm feeling better than before. I'm feeling at 100 per cent.”

Especially enjoyed what he said about the local accent. I had the same challenge.

There were a couple of great quotes from Donkor in yesterday's Echo article about his return. He really loved his first loan spell with us even though it was cut so short by the injury:

“It's great to learn from such great players, and as a young professional you are treated like a fully-fledged part of the team, which is great. The best that could have happened would have been if Wolfsburg had left me at the end of my six months and Everton wanted to keep me. That would have meant that it would have gone very well!”

Now that's a young man with a great attitude.

He also admitted struggling with the local accent, which amused me because I had the same issue:

“I thought I had learned English properly at school. But the dialect here is really very special. When they say 'bird', it does not mean 'bird' but 'girl'. You have to get used to something like that.”

Wait until he finds out all birds are called Judy and our kids Judy wants him to take her for a scran an her owl fella gets wind. He might have been better off going to China.

Len, "her owl fella gets wind" has another meaning as well. If he's lucky, he won't encounter any scallies or cowboys.

He was very impressive on his debut and Unsy was purring, unfortunately his injury knocked him back.

This lad has got some excellent attributes and could develop into something special.

More good news for the youth team and future of EFC. I think this is a super smart strategy – creating a place where young talent can come together and are respected/supported/given a chance means more young players will want to be part of it.

In the business scheme of things you can get 10-15 prospects for the cost of one proven star and many of whom will have increased resale value, whether or not they make it into the first team – which we'd obviously hope they do if the youth and seniors are properly joined up.

It's going to be touch and go whether Koeman or Unsworth will have made more signings at this rate!

Nathangelo Markelo, Anton Donkor, Josh Bowler, Henri Onykuru, plus Pickford, Klaassen, Keane, Sandro, Wayne and the window only just formally opened...

Holy shit! What an exciting time to be a Blue! For me, the highlight of the upcoming season is going to be Kenny and Davis!

Young, up-and-coming forwards, have we collected the set yet?
