Under-23 striker Courtney Duffus has signed for Oldham Athletic for an undisclosed fee.

The 22-year-old had been expected to out on loan again this season having had a temporary spell with Bury before but he has left Everton on a permanent basis.

Duffus, a Republic of Ireland U21 international, had become a regular in David Unsworth's U23s side but didn't make the breakthrough to the first team.

Going back to the Sheedy exit. Sheeds said his aim was to get professional careers for as many kids as they could wherever those may be. So another success for Sheedy. So many at big clubs never make the grade at all.

The academy really does produce a large number who manage to stay in the top 4 divisions. Obviously we all want to develop lots who stay with us and make the grade like Davies. This is always possible. It's testament to the academy staff that they are equipping many players to carve out a career somewhere.

A good lad is Courtney Duffus. As the story so often goes, had a bad injury but the club kept him on and helped him develop post-recovery. Hope he has the best of luck at his new club.

Hope he can work his way up the divisions, and he we see him in the Premier League sometime in the future.

Unsworth, Feb 7: "We certainly won’t give up on him... he just needs to go on a goal-scoring run". Goals scored since: 0. Wish him all the best but never going to score enough goals to make our first team.
