Pickford confirmed in World Cup squad

As expected, Jordan Pickford is the only Everton player picked by Gareth Southgate to represent England in the Russia World Cup.

Jack Butland and Nick Pope are still likely to give the Everton keeper plenty of competition for the honour of keeping goal, while Joe Hart has not been included.

The squad includes two other former Everton players, John Stones and Eric Dier.

He will be first choice, so I hope he has a great tournament and comes back full of confidence.

If Pickford does get to play a game, I pray that it isn't a horror show like the one he experienced at West Ham on Sunday. Ironically, in front of the eyes of the blundering former England keeper Joe Hart.

Good luck to you, Jordan, learn all you can about the game at the very highest level.

Eric Dier – former Everton player? Is that the loan spell 6-odd seasons ago? Or did I miss him signing?

Maybe you're right, Tim. But he does get a rather lengthy profile page in our directory of Past Academy Players on the back of his spell that spanned two seasons in the Under-18s and Reserves sides back then.

He didn't ever play for the first team. Something to do with the loan agreement at the time, as I recall.

Southgate out of his depth as a manager.
A squad full of players who didn't command first team places and others who are just underachievers.
Another more qualified manager would have not selected some of these players and sadly England will fail again against much superior teams.
How can he leave Wilshere out the way he has been playing ?? Just senselessness.

Well deserved.

One thing you can be sure of -- one costly mistake by Pickford (like the second goal on Saturday -- what was he doing?) and the media will crucify him.

Gone under the radar bit on this day of continual Everton breaking news stories, but Funes Mori is also in the Argentinian WC provisional squad of 35 - 12 to be trimmed.

Nice one Jordan. I hope you do yourself proud as the England number 1.

On an aside, why have England got 3 right backs? Walker, Trippier and Alexander-Armstrong? I know the kopshite has had a good season, but he hasn't got a right to be in ahead of the other two.

Meantime, any regrets now Mr Barkley?

I'm sure he'll continue to shine in an England jersey too.

So glad we spent that £30M — where would we be without him? 15th probably.
