U18s exit Lancashire Senior Cup

Everton U18s lost their Lancashire Senior Cup quarter-final 2-3 against Rochdale at USM Finch Farm on Tuesday.

Everton scored first when Manasse Mampala struck with an accomplished first-time finish on 43 minutes. And Mampala's strike partner Anthony Gordon converted a penalty with 11 minutes remaining.

But Rochdale scored three times in the intervening period — levelling on the stroke of half-time before netting twice inside three second-half minutes — and Everton were unable to conjure up an equaliser following Gordon's effort.

Complaining of a "hectic programme", coach Sean Loudon gave "boys who have not had a lot of football, a chance to play. And it was a good test for them because it was a competitive game. Rochdale were quite strong and an older team, with three of four senior players.”

Anthony Gordon got 90 minutes and looked sharp. Alex Denny came through half a game without any problems after his injury and Elliot Richards came back following his time out and also got 90 minutes.

Mampala would have put Everton two in front were it not for a fabulous one-handed stop from the Rochdale goalkeeper on loan from Fulham. At the other end, Hewelt kept alive the Everton's hopes when he saved a penalty with 5 minutes remaining.

Everton U18s: Hewelt, ... Denny, Gordon, Richards, ... Simms, Mampala. [Incomplete]
