Everton target Bertolacci as first signing

| Thursday, 12 July 2018 37comments  |  Jump to last
Everton are supposedly "very close" to signing midfielder Andrea Bertolacci from AC Milan for €6m.

That's the contention of Italian transfer gossip site, TuttoMercatoWeb who claim that "an agreement is imminent" between the two clubs over a transfer that would see the 27-year-old sign a five-year contract worth €2m a year at Goodison Park.

A product of AS Roma's youth system, Bertolacci rose to prominence during a loan spell at Genoa four years ago.

Milan signed him for €20m in 2015 but he never hit the heights expected of him at the San Siro and he returned to Genoa on loan again last season.

Strange one. Was good at Genoa 4 years ago but done little since then. Could be good value if he recaptures his previous form I suppose.

I’d rather stick with Klaassen.

If true must have a good few deals lined up to offload midfielders already on the books!

The media must be churning out loads of rumours. For me this wouldn’t stack up, unless M&M, have some specialist scouting process.

Question is when, will the exchanges start, maybe on return from Austria?

The clock is running and I sense there won’t be loads of incomings the next month at GP. Is the new training system, gonna unleash untapped potential, in the existing squad?

A 5 year deal for a 27 year old that's been out of sorts for a couple of years, and Milan are taking a €14m hit on. 3 goals in 3 seasons, wow

Is it the 1st April?

This surely has to be BS unless we're using the same transfer strategy we had in the Walter Smith days.

I think a swap involving Joao Mario and Davy Klaassen could be could deal for us and Inter

Hopefully nonsense. Fulham have amazingly just signed Jean Michael Seri so we can do way better!

Are we expecting a massive bid for tom davies to compensate for the crap we cant offload in the middle hense interest in going backwards 27 year olds for 6 mill

Apparently Seri can’t play when the weather is cold so think Fulham have taken a big chance on him.

How about a bid for someone who’s actually going to make a bit of difference to the attacking statues that currently inhabit our midfield?

Someone who is direct, who is powerful and hard to knock off the ball, someone like Arnautovic for example?

Apart from Walcott the rest are all one paced statues that are severely limited within their own resources.

Another B.S. rumour.

Does anyone really think that the club will be after a 27 year old when it is quite clear young players are what Brands and Silva were hired to prioritise.

Vlasic, Lookman, and Dowell will probably be our left sided attacking midfielders/forwards. As well as back up to Sigurdsson in the 'no10' role.

I guess that we will target 2 defenders, and one central midfielder with a greater passing range. Not expecting much more than that. I'm guessing they will be analysing the development of our yiung players - Davies, Baningime, Dowell, Calvert-Lewin, Vlasic, Lookman, plus maybe the likes of Williams, Robsinson and others before signing anyone.

The likes of Besic, Klassen, Bolasie, Mirallas, Martina, Schneiderlin, Niasse I assume are all available for sale, but should we struggle to off load them, due to their wages, they will have to play a role in the first team squad, so another factor that will slow down any incomings.

Was supposedly the next Pirlo. Had a very good rep a few years ago but never really fitted into the Milan system and had some issues with injuries. Lots of talent but never quite fulfilled.

Andy (20),

"had some issues with injuries. Lots of talent but never quite fulfilled"

Sounds like a perfect fit for us then!

The only way I can see the justification in this signing is if we're also buying a CB, LB and striker on big fees and Brands thinks this lad would be a cheaper better option than keeping Schneiderlin. But seeing as we've not signed anyone yet this would be a very underwhelming start under Brands, should it happen.

I don't believe this until I see it from a more credible source.

Like the Sun.

Or HITC.

Or the pizza chef at my favorite Genovese restaurant in Chicago.

Paul Joyce is usually a somewhat credible source and says we are after Mina and Lucas Digne from Barca. Not sure how much I rate either but theyd be improvements I’m sure on what we have.

Still hoping we might get Loftus-Cheek cheek to play the box to box role.

Mike Gaynes
26 Posted 12/07/2018 at 23:51:25
Sam, the Mina interest is confirmed by multiple news sources in Spain as well -- latest is that Mina is waiting to hear from Barca on whether he can go. So Digne would be logical.

Haven't seen a word on the Loftus-Cheek rumour in three weeks.

What do you think of having Lucas Digne as a LB option, Sam?

Guys — it's a typo!

Apparently it's Andrea Bocelli we're getting. It's to add a bit of class to the half time shit we usually get plus he does a great full time "It's a Grand Old Team".

If we take on all the players the media has said we're chasing we'll have 100 or more on our books.
Sam Hoare
31 Posted 13/07/2018 at 07:23:28
Gavin, personally I think Digne is a bit overrated. He’s a fairly solid defender with decent but not rapid pace and a decent cross but not much creativity in attack. I’m sure he’d do a decent job and he’s certainly an upgrade on Martina but he wouldn’t be my top pick.

Some clubs have done well signing no name '' have-done nothing'' players over the years. Spurs have a few and remember a team that won the Prem. called Leicester ?

Everton have never been so fortunate in that regard with the exception of Tim Cahill but maybe, just maybe Silva can coax a few of those out of oblivion and start something good.

Okay, so England were going to win the world cup but one has to be optimistic sometimes amid all these past disappointments.
