Tottenham 'agree' terms with Gomes

| Friday, 10 May 2019 30comments  |  Jump to last
André Gomes is close to finalising a move to Tottenham Hotspur according to a report by Sport in Spain today.

The Portuguese has long been linked with Spurs and came close to signing for them in the summer of 2017 but remained at Barcelona and eventually signed for Everton on loan last August.

There were strong indications from Gomes himself and from sources close to Goodison Park that the midfielder was looking to stay at Everton and sign a permanent deal and that could still be the case.

This latest claim, however, has it that Gomes and his agent have agreed personal terms with Spurs and that Barça are waiting for a formal offer of €30m from the North Londoners once the latter has secured Champions League football for next season.

According to the Liverpool Echo, meanwhile, Everton have now opened negotiations with Barcelona over the transfer of Gomes to Goodison on a full-time basis.

Would file this under click bait, if Brands want the player, he will get him.

Typical, bullshit journalism. why would Gomez sign just before the final game especially against Spurs. IMO I think he would want to be the main man at a club that is going places, instead of being a bit part player with Spurs. If your face doesn’t fit at Spurs you just polish their shiny new bench.
Hopefully André will see sense and sign for us, it would be a huge hole to fill if he doesn’t, especially if Gana goes too.

Silva said he talks to Gomes every day and there is no truth in this rumour.

The red press are constantly trying to undermine us.

Anyway I'm more concerned about Zouma.

"why would Gomez sign just before the final game especially against Spurs."

Do you not remember when Dunc signed for Newcastle during a game between the two clubs? That said, either Gomez has Silva snowed or as jay points it is a BS story based on Silva's remarks today.

Chris, it certainly appears that way, but I hope we don't pay silly money for him, as much as I would like him, if It's big money, maybe we could do better.

Giovanni Lo Celso of Real Betis is two years younger and is earning rave reviews, and would cost about the same.

Andre, best check with Pienaar about which bit of the Spurs bench is comfiest.

If he stays, No letting Levy wind the price up, it has to be within our budget. Not a penny over £30M ( lower if we can obviously) and none of this 5yrs at £125K a week either.

I know he’s a good player but he has issues and as soon as he has a bad game his head goes and so does his form, he cannot take criticism. He is not irreplaceable.

This wouldn’t be the first time Spurs pip us at the post for a player.

Gomes has shown a great rapport at GP and at away games with the fans.

If goes to Spurs, as he wants to, then best rid, but I’d be surprised if this isn’t media bull, to hike the price up.

I’m sue MB has his own plans, and I trust MB, to get the best players, in for the club, this preseason.

No doubt tomorrow night the rumour mills, will be on full flow.

Let’s see what happens.

As many have said, the grass isn’t always greener on the other side. Money helps, but health and happiness and contentment are more valuable.

This report may be true of course, but I’ve lost count of the number of times we’re about to play a ‘big’ club, especially if we’re on form, and ‘coincidentally’ a story appears linking one of our players to that club.

I am sure Levy would like to would like to sign him for that money, and maybe they are feeding the piranha journos to unsettle him.

With Everton he has got his career back on track and is with a club that is on the up. I expect us to be challenging for Europe and a trophy next season he should be part of that.

He would be better of staying and building on his impressive start for us. Why throw a spanner in the works and risk going back to square one.

For me though , I agree with Paul above, he is not irreplaceable . i would like to sign both Zouma and Gomes, but my priority would be the former if Chelsea win their next appeal.

We wont be signing Zouma in the summer it will be a 12 month loan again if we can agree that with Chelsea. As for Gomes loyalty in football has gone out the window, money talks but common sense should prevail here.

I have a feeling Sarri will find a place for Zouma now that Chelsea's transfer ban has been upheld. I've also been reading in several sports reports that Herrera is on his way to PSG on a free... hopefully this means Gana is staying.

Gomes? I'm trying to think how Spurs would fit him in regularly with Dier, Wanyama, Sissoko, Lemela, Alli, Erikson, Winks & Dembele.

Geoff #12...' as for loyalty the same applies to Poch. The biggest clubs in Europe will be looking at him now and theres no guarantee he will be there next season.

All nonsense, possibly just to try unsettling us prior to the match tomorrow or maybe just recycling an old story. So Spurs are rushing around trying to get a bid in early before the window opens in perhaps the biggest week in their clubs history ? Please !
For Barca transfer info, I suggest keeping an eye on Mundo Deportivo. Proved last summer with accurate reporting on Digne and Mina. In March they said Barca want to sell Gomes early to help fund purchases and will sell to the highest bidder. Nothing since, so that's where they are.

While Gomes has been up and down, I get the impression he will go up a level if he can get a good pre-season behind him. We are in pole position to buy him. He seems happy here and it’s a good fit. He can see we are a striker away from being a top 6 team.

I hope we get him. He’s got a bit of devil in him too, which you need.

A simple spreading of rumour to try to jack up the player's worth, for Barca to come back to us and look for more dough. Barca bound to have a hand in that rumour.

Geoff (12), can you still recall a player from loan? I thought they had to be seen through these days and therefore a season long loan wouldn’t suit Chelsea as it would make the player as useless to them as selling him would.
If they can’t buy then Zouma will surely be back with them next season even if he warms the bench most weeks.

I doubt Gomes will risk his happiness (and lower expectations, plus a chance to be part of a 'club on the up') for a place on the bench (mostly) at Spurs. £25 million should do it for Gomes to Everton; if not, we move on, provided we can keep Gueye (which is a big 'If').

Losing both Gomes and Gueye would suddenly bring us back to square one. A midfield of Davies, McCarthy and Schneiderlin does not fill me with a lot of confidence.

Nothing surprises me in football these days...Bit of a hypothetical (I know he's a Barca player) but, if it happened, would you have Wanyama from Spurs?

This Spurs link comes from a Barcelona affiliated magazine. Trying to drive the price up pure and simple as they did with Mina.

Gomes has been decent but not outstanding. I’d prefer a box to boxer with more pace and more goals (see Lo Celso or Loftus-Cheek) but for continuity’s sake the Portuguese makes sense. Hope we can get him for £20-25m. Seems like he is happy and fitted in well which is good as I imagine he’ll have to take a pay cut.

Si #18 I am only saying what I have been told by a very reliable member of the EFC staff. They are worried that the knee injury has not fully healed and that Zouma would not pass a medical, Hence not wanting to fork out in the region of £30 million for a player with a very dodgy knee.

Si #18, it depends on the terms of the loan deal whether a player can be recalled.

Paper and trash talk as we know, however we should keep him away from Spurs today as the sight of that new stadium may turn his head !

I'd love us to get Gomes despite his clear temperament issues, but if Spurs really are interested then it's a no brainer for him. Champions league football (and with any luck, winners!), a swanky new stadium & a team & manager that are really pressing the top 4.........I rest my case .........

It is the start of bullshit stories that will come thick and fast in the summer as we all twiddle our thumbs waiting for good news. Expect plenty more where this came from.

A Spurs fan who would rather have Digne than Rose.
