Revived link between Everton and Leipzig's Augustin

| Friday, 17 May 2019 22comments  |  Jump to last
Everton are once again being linked with a move for Red Bull Leipzig forward Jean-Kévin Augustin who is also being targeted by Leicester City.

The Telegraph report that both clubs have made "informal inquiries" about the 21-year-old former Paris St Germain forward who looks as though he could leave the Bundesliga club this summer.

Augustin was strongly linked with Everton last December but the €40m move materialised in the January transfer window. The France U21 international's value has halved in the interim according to this report for a player who has 11 goals in 41 league games for Leipzig.

Have been doing a bit of research on this guy, his scoring record is not great by any means, do we really need another stuttering striker?

I know there are no guarantees with any player, and he does have age in his favour, but for the sort of money that is being mentioned, I would expect the finished article.

Besides that, what worries me with any player, that if he is any good, why is his Club prepared to let him go? Like we don't want to let our best players go, the only exception to that would be a Club that was struggling financially, and needed the funds.

The winner will be the club that fits the supposedly brilliant striker in to the playing style of the manager and the team. This is something most db managers (starts with dic and ends ain, 2 words in 4 & 5) have no understanding in.

This guy might be really good but in the wrong team of late or he might be a flop. I leave this decision to the guys who are paid millions - outside my pension!

Don't know enough about the lad, other than YouTube stuff.

As Madrid have just signed Jovic, why not move for Mariano Díaz?

He was brought in as back-up for Benzema, which now puts him as 3rd choice, scored 18 in 37 (wiki stat) at Lyon and surely won't cost a bomb.

Derek. Just a thought but are you not describing Richarlson!?

David(#5); I was thinking the same thing but wouldn't really like to see a part-ex deal.

This season for Lookman was a huge waste. How much could he learn from being on the bench? Of course he also did very little with what time he had. Him and Davies have to kick on next season, or move on.

No bobby, we needed to buy Vardy last year.

No Jimmy we need to buy Vardy 2 seasons ago.

Agustin is apparently very similar to DCL but has a slightly better record of goal conversion albeit in the Bundesliga.

I think we can and should do better.

Sky Sports linking us with Mitrovic : "Everton are very interested in signing Fulham striker Aleksandar Mitrovic this summer,Sky Sports News understands."

I understand that Sky Sports News is full of shit!
I think they link everyone to every club knowing that one or two will eventually be right.

Jay (10) - Augustin is not similar to DCL. He's not particularly tall, not very commanding in the air, is quite compact, has a quick burst of acceleration, and a powerful shot. I'd say he is more like a physically solid Jermain Defoe.

He lost his way a bit in the second half of last season, in a team that has lots of decent striking options. In the France Under 19 group I remember him having a greater impact than his team-mate Kylian Mbappe (although Mbappe is 18 months younger and was only 17 years old at time). I'd love to see him sign for us, but I'm not convinced about his attitude.

Silly season is here, why would Everton be interested in a player not good enough to play for Newcastle. This time of year agents are working overtime dropping hints to journalists that so and so is interested in one of their players,
just so they can say to other interested parties oh Everton are interested to bump up their players salary.

I have already read in the last week that we are looking to swap Lucas Digne with Danny Rose, ridiculous suggestion. PSG are willing to pay £65 million for Richarlison again ridiculous. Mind with no football to occupy the back pages they have to fill their pages with this nonsense.

My advice is believe nothing you read in the press regarding players leaving or coming to the club, instead wait till you see the player at Finch Farm in an Everton shirt.

Andrew,
Thanks for your feedback.

You have convinced me that we can definitely do better.

I had read that he plays a similar way to DCL with his hold up play etc but other than the odd Liepzig game where he didnt stand out for me I havent seen much of him.

Brian,
Thats been good advice for years but we are all insatiable to know whats going on so we take the sublime with the ridiculous.

Brian @12, why do they call it Sky Sports News? It's the same stories over and over, and the same with the boring ads in between. Breaking News is usually History!

What's more they have the audacity to charge extra for the Sports and therefore there shouldn't be any ads, greedy bast**ds!

Derek, I don't know why it's called sky sports news either?

It should be called Liverpool F.C news.

A Vardy or Defoe from 4 / 5 years ago would be great. Pace, power, movement, work rate and a powerful accurate shot.

DCL and Richarlison lack the last quality, they are not strikers. Tosun lacks most of them but perhaps Lookman with improved movement and work rate could be become more of a goal scoring forward rather than a winger?

Anyway that's probably a few years away at best. We need better players in for next season and to get rid of the dross.

Rather take a chance on this guy than Mitrovic!

Kevin is a football genius, we need guys like him in our team if we’re ever going to break into the top four, the way he moves with the ball is like he’s got an in built gps gyro, way better than the strikers we currently have, I’d give them15 million with lookman and sandro, just pay off the charlatans contract and say adios, I’m hearing Jesus may also be available at city, as we did them a favour and crushed the gobshites title dream at Goodison maybe a deal can be done, especially if his family is settled in the NW, I’d go for mitrovic as well, he reminds me of Duncan in his pomp, just not as hungover, I like the look of that giant swede at cb for Southampton, looks like Pennywise and moves like a butterfly which is truly a miracle for a guy over 6,5”. Get spending those Usmanov billions and we’ll topple the Arabs come 2022! Nil Satis!
