Good evening all,

You may remember my childhood friend and fellow Evertonian, Ashley, has sadly been given the news he has pancreatic cancer and his life expectancy is being treated daily. André Gomes as we all know visited Ashley in Hereford hospital and is in daily contact since. I am late in getting this going and making a start due to the horrendous floods we are experiencing in Hereford presently. Luckily my house is okay. Ashley’s, unfortunately, is badly affected and the ground level is under 3 foot of water.

We are currently trying to raise £250,000 for Ashley to take part in a pioneering trial, although the priority now is raising money to fix his house for his wife, baby and 8-year-old son.

My way of doing my part is to raffle one of my prized possessions. I have a Holy Trinity Poster that I was collecting signatures on and have many, although Alan Ball sadly passed before I could get his. It is all certified and authenticated, has never been out of the poster tube or hung on a wall. It has been waiting to go in my man cave once it is finished.

I would like to raffle it thanks to Derek’s brilliant suggestion. I think £3 a ticket to encourage as many tickets go as possible, and Ashley will draw the winner on March 31st.

To give you a quick sense of the man, Ashley is in the building trade. Before his illness, he did countless building / repair projects for many elderly people at no cost to them. He has done projects for things like the BBC programme DIY SOS. He genuinely is one of life's good guys and has always helped people in need himself.

The full list of signatures I have are as follows....

Colin Harvey, Howard Kendall, Duncan Mckenzie, Bob Latchford, Derek Mountfield, Neville Southall, Mark Ward, Graeme Stuart, Ian Snodin, Joe Parkinson, Kevin Sheedy, Mike Lyons, John Bailey, John Hurst, Joe Royle, Billy Bingham, Tony Kay, Derek Temple, Graeme Sharp, Andy King.

If you would like tickets, please PayPal in £3 or multiples thereof, to and a note of your name and confirm the number of tickets.

Alternatively, email me and I can give you my bank details. Email

Thank you all in advance. Please spread the word, etc. Ashley is very humbled by the generosity of people he doesn't know. There is also a JustGiving page raising funds for Ash.

Wonderful of you to do this, Carl. Your generosity and commitment to your friend and his family are inspirational.

I am contacting you separately by email.

Mike, at the risk of seeming nosy I'm concerned about your family in Wuhan, genuinely. Are they okay? I sincerely hope so.

And well done, Carl.

Everybody's fine, Don. thanks. Nobody's sick, just a little sick of being locked in with each other (five people, six weeks, three-bedroom apartment).

Unfortunately a colleague of my sister-in-law, this widely-respected hospital director who led the fight, is among those who have died of the virus:

There is no way to measure the heartbreak in Hubei province. So many people who have lost loved ones without even getting the chance to say goodbye. The human tragedy is buried in the statistics and the sensationalistic news stories.

Hi Carl, I know I'm probably stating the obvious but has anyone asked the DIY SOS crew to fix up Ashley's house. From their point of view it would make a great show and the publicity would help raise funds for Asley too.
