Everton Under-23s 0 - 1 Swindon Town
The U23s held out almost till the end in their first pre-season game, against Swindon Town. The first half was an even game in the searing heat in La Manga, with no clear-cut chances for either side. Anthony Gordon had been impressive for the Blues, while captain Morgan Feeney was expertly marshalling his back four.
Chance for Everton when a loose ball in midfield in picked up by Gordon, who hares forward before playing in Simms. The powerful striker sprints through on goal and attempts to find the top corner, but the keeper made the save.
Ellis Iandolo's late header proves decisive for Swindon. The young Blues were competitive throughout against vastly more experienced opponents, however, and boss David Unsworth will reflect on a valuable workout for his side.
Everton U23s: Hansen, John, Foulds, Denny, Feeney, Anderson, Hunt (46' Ouzounidis), Markelo, Simms (75' Phillips), Gordon (75' Mampala), Evans.
