Time for Marcel Brands to prove he can lead Everton forward

Time for the players to do what they're paid for. I haven't seen Brands misplace a 10 yard pass. I haven't seen Silva make a bad tackle or miss a sitter. It's time the players showed some pride, not only for the honour of wearing the shirt, but pride in themselves as footballers. That's their trade. Instead, they anger and frustrate thousands of fans, who spend hard earned money, in the hope, that's all we have, hope that they have something to cheer about.

Having said that, Silva has to go,

Brands is not really a DOF.

He is a very highly paid yes man.

The Director of Football model can only work if the manager and DOF are on the same page. That clearly hasn't been the case so far with Walsh and Brands. Silva wanted a striker, Brands got him Kean, but Silva doesn't think Kean is ready so he is not playing him. It was the same previously with Walsh and Koeman.

Jonathan, a bit harsh there in my opinion, but the events of the next few weeks, will paint a truer picture, because in typical Everton style, we the fans are told very little, and only left to feed off scraps, speculation and half truths.

As I and many others have said we don't know how involved he is at Finch Farm, with Training preparation for games, team selection etc. I know that does, and basically should be within the Coach/Manager's remit, but with recent team selections, surely if acting as a true DoF in the interests Everton, he should intervene.

Then again as I said we are not privy to what should be happening, or is happening, so may be pointing an undeserved finger at Marcel Brands.

The first job is to get a spine.

Central defender - Zouma was pursued, we failed and failed to have a plan B.

Central midfielder - Gbamin came in for Gana, bad luck ?

Centre forward/ goalscorer - Kean, fantastic talent but needs time

Mr Brands, There is your to do list.

I suppose that means that Silva's stay of execution might be longer than we thought.

Brands answer seems to be team-building activities. Anyone for a spot of white water rafting ? But first, get a grip.

Rudi Coote @1, very well said. The general quality and commitment of our players has been very poor for far too long and they have thrown a few managers under the bus. They also routinely betray the fans and perform in a way that amounts to contempt for their support.

Of course, managers need to be capable of dealing with all this nonsense, but the players really should be embarrassed. I don't think any of them really care. If they did, we would see it, and we don't.

Brands's role is now coming under more scrutiny. He is not only the Director of Football, but also a Director on the Everton Board. The latter was an unorthodox move by Moshiri.

What Brands is about to find out is that being on the Board is a poisoned chalice. More is now expected from Brands. In his Board role, which was to bring more control over selection and contracts to the footballing side, fundamental change at Everton became an added responsibility as well. Things obviously have to change at Everton. In his interview, he gave a brief insight into his role a Finch Farm, which failed to impress.

It's obvious that change is necessary within Everton structures, but Brands has appeared to go down the status quo route, rather than directing change.

Silva is definitely looking now as if he should have been sacked earlier.
