Last time we looked at this stuff, Everton were one of many premier league sides in the top 20, but now most of them are tumbling out of the top 20. That’s also a factor to be taken into consideration.

We would have been better off signing five or six hungry players from near the top of the Championship way back in 2017 that were chomping at the bit, maybe once that group had consolidated a top 6 or 7 place we could have altered our field of search.

I'd say the 3 players mentioned Mina, Digne, Richarlison] are very good investments so I won't be too stressed about any shortfall.

I honestly believe Everton need to raise ticket prices.

I cant remember when, but I do recall a thread regarding ticket prices about a year ago or so on TW. I could not believe how incredibly cheap they were.

I would expect to pay $50 (£39) for absolutely shit seats at Goodison, and $125 to $150 (£96 to £115) for quality seats. Those eating dining hall packages probably around $400 or so on the low end? (£308).

Looking online, cheap seats go for £28 in the Lower Bullens to £34 in the Park Stand.

I got roasted for saying this by some locals, and I understand that reaction. I'd still maintain ticket prices need to increase to help raise our revenues. My expectations on ticket prices when compared to actual cost are in cases 40% higher - surely there's room to bump up the price of a ticket a little bit without pissing off the gameday match-goer??

Jamie @ 9. You make some very interesting points.

I'll call on Steve Ferns here who, in a post I read a couple of weeks ago in response to how few executive boxes Goodison has and how few are planned for BMD, linked to the various suites available now at Goodison.

He also mentioned that the Spurs new stadium actually has fewer executive boxes than White Hart Lane, but more suite space. Steve didn't mention any monetary figures, but it certainly gave me pause for thought on my own questioning as to why more executive boxes were not included for BMD.

I'm guessing the money men have counted the beans and concluded that the capacity and premium pricing of leasing an executive box is limited and possibly leaves you vulnerable to not leasing them and having wasted space, whereas very, VERY tasteful suites and packages can also give you a more upmarket match day experience but at an affordable price.

Now whilst this is more expensive than a bog standard no-thrills season ticket it's not beyond the pocket of many a match goer. You can pack more people into an exclusive lounge, pre-, half-time and post-match and in-between times they experience the match in their bog-standard seat.

My guess is the bean counters have calculated they can guarantee a greater take-up on such middling but affordable suite packages then they could on more exclusive and premium priced executive suites, the result being they generate MORE not less revenue.

I don't think I've ever seen, for example, Paul the Esk run this calculation in his comments on BMD as he has bewailed the lack of foresight, as he sees it, in not having more executive boxes in the build.

The middling suite package will be (and is) accessible to many. I'm guessing that will be extended even more at BMD. As such, perhaps there is no need to radically raise the bog standard prices as you suggest.

Steve, as I say, may be able to offer greater insight into this.

Exactly Tony @8. Investment in the squad. Those 3 may have cost us in the region of 100mill but what are they worth now if sold in the morning. I would hazard a guess of 75m for Richarlison, 35m for Mina and 35m for Digne. Total 145m minimum. Only as good as what someone will pay say some but in today's market I would say those to be fair rates. So an investment of 100m generates 145m in 12months plus free transfer Bernard, easy worth 25m alone.

Jamie, Last match I attended home to Sheffield Utd, we paid £42 each for seats in the corner of the Upper Gwladys, next to the Bullens, behind a pillar. Luckily, or perhaps not so lucky, we could move a couple of seats right as there were a 2 no-shows on our row. I think the match day ticket revenue is quite low compared to the TV monies received. I would consider £42 extortionate for a seat where the Park End goal was completely obscured. Roll on Bramley Moore.

I have a membership for years but stopped applying for tickets for home games about 4 years ago because of the restricted view issue.
I try to attend the away games in the home section which is not easy.

BMD can't happen quickly enough!

Raising ticket prices may have the unwanted outcome of regular match attendees deciding to pick and choose the games they attend in the future and therefore not take up a season ticket. The monies earned from match revenue is almost negligible in the modern game, due to the vast sums earned from TV.

Whilst other clubs due to their location or success, can if they wish, squeeze the pips to the limit, Everton are not yet in a position to do so and even if they were it's always a gamble, at least in this neck of the woods to go overboard on price increases.

I'm sure that our neighbours regular match-goers are vastly different demographically than those that attended their games in the past. Many of the former regulars can ill afford the prices they charge nowadays and their new supporters from other areas of the UK and elsewhere are willing and able to pay the entrance fee.

Where I would imagine that Everton will be able to significantly increase their take from match-going supporters in the new stadium, will be a combination of better facilities and an environment which would encourage fans to spend much longer inside the stadium and therefore more likely to part with their hard-earned on food and beverage etc. Currently it is all the pubs, cafe's and fast food outlets surrounding Goodison that earn that cash.

Obviously, the club can't continue to lose £100m+ year on year, however, we know most of the reasons why this has happened and it will be up to the board and manager to rectify that situation, which given they may have to cash in on some of the players, it would be bad business to put up prices.

Jay, Everton struggle to fill the very few boxes we have. I will be contacted a few times per season to "upgrade". Not an option for me sadly.

I think that the boxes we do have are mainly used by the players. For example, I regularly glance across to the box underneath the TV Studio, i.e. the corner between Park End and the Main Stand. I used to recognise Richarlison's family in there last season as they came kitted out in Brazilian shirts and carrying the flag. I have seen from his sister's social media that she has one of the normal boxes, over by the dug out in the main stand, and you can make her out, as she normally wears her Brazilian shirt and has a load of peroxide blond hair. I have no idea, but I would expect that this is Richarlison's box and this is where his old teacher was when he came over and any other of his family come over.

The corner box has had the Kean family in it a few times. They access the box via the People's club and "Mami" is quite recognisable. Very polite lady by the way.

So this is Goodison Park's current capacity:
People's Club: 120 @ £1135 = £136,200
Captain's table: 64 @ £1510 = £96,640
'85 Lounge: 70 @ £3100 = £217,000
Dixie Dean Suite: 70 @ £4995 = £349,650
Brian Labone: 120 @ £3965 = £475,800
1878 Lounge: 120 @ £3675 = £441,000
Alex Young Lounge: 220 @ £2515 = £553,300
Joe Mercer Suite: 100 @ £1780 = £178,000
So that's £2,447,590 from the lounges for the season

We have 13 Executive Boxes: £50,000 each box = £650,000

Steve F, also I think what's against us, there is larger suite capacity in my more local clubs Blackburn and Burnley, particularly when those dining can see the match/pitch from their tables. Even Preston do better facilities. We really do need this new ground.

It confirms what I stated earlier, that the bean counters have run the numbers, know their market and know it will be difficult to fill the exec boxes other than, as you say, the players themselves leasing them for their own families and friends.

I seem to recall a tell-tail sign that Rooney was out the door to United all those years ago was that he and his family did not renew their exec box with the club that season.

Quite clearly, based on full subscription to each package, the various suites generate much more revenue than the exec boxes. With the broad range of pricing, they can also appeal to different clientele and different budgets. That's shrewd marketing.

Presumably, BMD will incorporate even more suites, or at least greater capacity, so those numbers you quote will only increase, generating even more for the club on match days..

I've never seen Paul the Esk factor in this very important detail when talking about stadium revenue.

From the earlier post of yours a couple of weeks ago I referenced, did you also say something along the lines that the Goodison Park suites in the last year or two have been refurbished as a 'tester and taster' for the planned suites at BMD?

I looked at the different packages you linked to in that post and they offered really appealing packages. Each individual suite also looks really nice, themed as they are to different legends and historical landmarks in the club's history.

My previous concerns at the apparent lack of the exec boxes at BMD have been completely dispelled by the info you provide Steve.

Joe, but the future is lounges. You cannot see the pitch, you're beneath the stands. This will remain unchanged. The new stadium will just have lots of these lounges. This is the way Spurs went with their new stadium, reducing the number of boxes and increasing the number of lounges. The boxes are quite small and sit 10, so it's £5,000 per head, that's the same as the Dixie Dean Suite, and I bet there's more people per metre in the Dixie Dean suite than in the boxes. if so, the club would earn more from the Dixie Dean suite than a box.

Click on any of the different lounges to see the facilities: Link As I said previously, the price of the People's Club is less than a standard ticket at Arsenal and Spurs. So this is the way forward to make football accessible to all with a variety of differently priced tickets and facilities.

The big thing at Spurs new stadium, that we are going to copy is the "tunnel club". This lounge is clearly shown on the video and it's huge. You can see the full length of the tunnel and the interview area. So, how many will this lounge sit? 200 or so? They'll sell those tickets for £5,000 a head.

It’s pretty well balanced between our matchday income and most other clubs in the league. It’s when compared to United, City, LPool,, Chelsea, Arsenal and Spurs that there is a huge disparity. A few extra quid on a ticket at Goodison isn’t the solution. Match day hospitality facilities to match those mentioned is needed but this needs to go hand in hand with a media profile that extends our support base (see all of the mentioned clubs).

It's all about money and balancing the books, hopefully making profits to satisfy the shareholders and that wont change.
Secondly there is the product out on the field which as long as it is producing revenue by filling the ground and remains in the Prem. then that is acceptable to the board despite not being in the top echelons.

There are clubs in the conference (or whatever it's called nowadays) with more boxes than Us. BMD should've goven the opportunity for boxes convertible to hotel rooms with lounge spaces convertible to hotel restaurants and conference suites. with internal and external boxes for all year round income and enabling funding. 20 boxes is nowhere near what we need.

Steve, if those figures are correct, then the club only brings in £3.1M PA through all the suites and executive boxes. That is absolute peanuts compared to probably most premier league clubs. We definitely need this new stadium in order to generate lots more income than we do now. I don't know what the average price of season tickets are, but even at £700, that's just short of £26M in season ticket sales. Added to the £3.1M brings a total of £29M in season ticket sales corporate facilities.

Regarding the number of executive boxes at the new stadium, I was told many months ago that there would be seventy boxes. We have still not had any confirmation from anyone though, regarding the number of boxes or suites within the stadium.

This is why Atletico Madrid were prepared to move miles from their historic fan base to near the airport to build a new shiny stadium that would actually make money. I have been a season ticket holder at atleti for 15 years and I always remember the first game I saw. At half time my Spanish colleagues took me to the centre concourse for drinks I couldn’t see any bars or anything, then from nowhere an army of guys with ice cream fridges on wheels appeared from which they sold the beer. When it was gone it was gone. Everyman for himself. All very different from the Bernabéu! And a huge reason why although not universally popular, the big move was accepted. Atleti will start to rise rapidly in the money leagues once the costs are covered.

I posted on here a bit ago about boxes and our pitiful number. I said at the time these were £10,000 a year. They’re actually £100,000 a year for them - and we have 11. (And 3 are bought by players - Richarlison and Bernard have one together I think)

Even having 70 of these will generate an extra £6million.

Then, as others have pointed out, are the lounges.

New stadium should rake in at least £10million more than Goodison on corporate facilities alone. That’s Schneiderlin’s wage paid for 2 years!!!

As soon as our turnover translates into Everton playing football like a club that’s top 20 in the world, I’d potentially go along with ticket increases (in the 8% of seats that aren’t behind a pillar). For now though, I think all Americans with the initials JC should pay £125 for every game they watch on telly... from a seat that isn’t restricted!

Tickets were going for 24 quid on stub hub for the Brighton game and we didnt fill the place.
I saw one guy at the park end gate trying to give away two tickets.

Yeah I know a lot more people would have showed up if they had realised tickets would be going cheap or free and I accept that a few would have been too pissed off after last Sundays performance to get themselves up there this week, But.. There are a lot of match goers who already feel they are being short changed. They havent seen winners for years, The facilities are abject and the football on show over the past decade or so has generally been pug ugly.

Without offering an improvement in entertainment, results and facilities. A significant price increase could, in many cases, be the straw which breaks the camels.

This arrangement with Usmanov is just so he has first dibs on naming rights. If he does in deed take up the option it will be far more money flowing into the coffers than that. It will also help us to dodge the FFP rule.

Regarding revenue, our merchandise deal is one of the poorest, in the Premiership, Bill, and Elstone, are totally responsible. I remember
them giving Kitbag, a 10 year deal, £3m a year, and they received all the profits from everything sold including kits etc. We still can't buy jerseys in most sport shops, if it was a private company, they would have been sacked years ago. Has anything changed, because the last couple of years, Umbro, have totally made a mess of the quality, and quantity orders, remember the mistake, last summer? Now we're linked with Hummel, a mickey mouse company, we've one of the lowest kit deals in the Premiership also, the redshite have a new deal with Nike, probably worth 30 times what we take. A top commercial director is a must, I don't know who's in charge of that area now.

I have five kids! I'd be in the "cheap seats" for $50, pillar or not. If I actually lived there, and thank your lucky stars I don't, I'd dump $125 a game once or twice for me and the wife to attend "in luxury".

Again, as a superficial thing, as an American, looking at the Premier League, I'd expect to minimally pay $50 to get in the door. I'm sure all the Norwegians flocking to Mordor think the same.

You bring up a great point that I often don't factor in. And as such, it shows how truly removed I am from the heart of Everton that is currently Goodison Park.

Goodison is old. I don't even consider restricted views and the like when I factor ticket prices, and that's remiss of me. Call it naivety, because it is.

If I had to pay £42 for a seat behind a pillar, I'd be pissed. It's that dynamic that tempers pricing - and one I just forget about.

Darren #28, the ground looked full to me. I know the attendance dropped slightly below 39,000 meaning there was empty seats, but I couldn't see any. I assumed that this was because Brighton didn't sell their allocation. They took a reduced offering and it was seats above the away section, usually used by away fans, that were on general sale, but again, looking from the Park End, that section seemed to be sold out. I don't doubt what you say, it is just surprising based on what I saw.

Kevin, the boxes are £50,000 a year and there's 13 of them. The 11 you refer to are the ones down the side in the Main Stand behind the dugout. There's another two. One is the "Sky Box", so called because it is used by Sky TV and the other is a box below it. It is this box that seems to house players families on special occasions.

So, when we signed Richarlison, it was too late for him to buy a box. So that's where his family was. This season, he he's clearly got one and his family is in there. You can spot his sister in her Brazil top a mile off.

In the box below the Sky Box has often been the Kean family and friends. They were given the full red carpet treatment for the Watford League Cup game as he started and was clearly expected to deliver and they wanted his family to be pride of place to enjoy it.

Sorry, I missed your reply. Yes, I'm quite familiar with NWHL as I have been following it through design and construction phases. Yes, there has been a reduction in boxes nominally, but there are still 80 large ones and entire corporate tiers with supporting lounges. So boxes still form the pinnacle, or highest value offering. I can't think of many new club stadia that will have only 20 boxes certainly none of over 40k capacity. I think even Liverpool have 64, and will be looking for more if the Kemlyn Road stand is ever expanded.
