Tom Cannon, a young striker with Everton's U18s side, has signed his first professional contract with Everton, agreeing to a 2-year deal that runs until June 2023.

Over the last two seasons, he has scored 21 league goals for the U18 side. The Aintree-born Irish player has talked of the support he has received since joining Everton Academy aged 10 has driven his development as a player.

“It is a proud moment for myself and my family to sign this contract. To come through the Academy system and sign professionally is an amazing feeling.

“Through all the ranks and all the age groups, each coach has helped massively in my progression.

“I'm very thankful for that and I'll aim to keep repaying the confidence the Club has shown in me.”

Nice to see Tom has finally signed his first pro contract with the Blues, there has been some doubt about him signing.

He scored a cracking goal earlier in the season for the U18s; you won't see a better goal from any of the other Everton players, at any level, this season.

Best of luck, Tom, with your career.

Not a bad surname for a striker! Good luck lad.

Like you say Dave A, great name for a striker, let's hope he has balls, and fires us ahead regularly. Who knows he be one of the big guns one day.

Des, a Gun Thread would imply that it has a silencer. :-)

So Dave, he's already turning opposing defenders into Cannon fodder?

Sorry about that lame pun, but all the good lines had already been taken by Derek and Des.

As Dave alluded to, Tom Cannon is a scorer of great goals as opposed to say a great goalscorer e.g. Simms scored many more goals at the same age, Cannon is better technically. The fact he’s got a two year contract, as opposed to a single year, is a good sign for him, although there is a suggestion that he was holding out for 2 years before he signed.

Good news about Cannon. Let's hope we can sign other youngsters of such high calibre...

Jay (8), the winners play Man. City in the next round, they won their tie 6-1, I think against Birmingham City.

I'm happy with the attacking tools but who's goings to supply the ammunition?

What we lack is a RODriguez and 'Coleman' to help prepare the fire.
