Tyler Onyango will have an operation next week to repair what Everton describe as "a significant ankle fracture and ligament injury" suffered in yesterday's FA Youth Cup tie against Manchester City.
The promising young midfielder was hacked down by an ugly challenge from City Under-18s' Alex Robertson and had to be stretchered off the field.
Onyango, who made his first-team debut in the Toffees' FA Cup victory over Sheffield Wednesday earlier this season, will travel to London to undergo the procedure before beginning his patient rehabilitation but he will take heart from the recovery staged by André Gomes who suffered a similar injury 18 months ago.

Hang in there, kid. We'll be rooting for you. Stay strong and talk to Gomes a lot.

This sounds quite serious so pray for his powers of recovery and mental fortitude in helping him get back. He will get plenty of encouragement from his senior colleagues similarly afflicted in the past.
Good luck with the progress, Tyler.
