Man Utd defender Brandon Williams may be a target

Friday, 08 January 2021 18comments  |  Jump to last

Manchester United defender Brandon Williams is being reported as a January target for Everton, according to The Express. The 20-year-old has seen his utilization at Old Trafford plummet this season after he established himself breaking through with over 20 appearances for the Red Devils in 2019-20.

The Athletic has claimed that Everton have recently shown some interest in signing Williams, although it seems doubtful as claimed that they would offer regular first-team football as the youngster aims to secure his place in the England under-21 squad for this year's European Championships.

The report states that the situation regarding Everton's interest is 'live'.

When has a United reject ever worked for us?

And please, don't say Phil Neville. Certainly don't say Rooney.

Tim Howard.

I wouldnæt exactly call them rejects but

Whiteside
Kanchelskis
Hughes
Saha

come to mind. Neither was a failure in my opinion.

Is he a right back?

Any player is a gamble. What has tainted our view of players signed from Man U is the injuries and inconsistency. Gibson, Cleverley, Whiteside. We brought them to GP knowing they had injury problems. They were comparatively cheap at the time. Kanchelskis, Howard & Neville were all more productive for us.
Back in the 80's we bought Reid, Gray & Power. All had knee problems. They all did a fantastic job for us. It's about the desire to come and prove you can be a quality player. We have been too soft in the past.

Isnt he a left back?

Have to wonder about Nkounkou if he is.

He is a left back, and a good left back. Very young so I don't know what the point would be when we already have a young left back in Neils.

It would be a waste of a loan in my opinion

Don't believe this for a second. He is being named as an interest to every club.

Per. post 3. Hughes ? You are having a laugh. Another great veteran pay day one goal in twenty something! Five years too late. Plus Tom Howard was at a comfortable level for the Moyes Everton. Leave that club well alone eh. I’m sure Brands has something inspired up his sleeve. Not the shut your eyes pin news now obvious targets.

From what I’ve seen of him he looks a good player. I’m sure he’s better on his right foot, but can use both feet, decent on the ball, and not scared of a tackle, which makes me wonder if he could also play in midfield?

Like with Serie A, but in this case, I think it's the usual media bullshit.

Everton have genuine pressing needs for some players, but we have Nkounkou hopefully nailed on for cover, and Lucas Digne back as the best left-back at Everton.

This in my view: it is default media bullshit.

Kanchelskis was brilliant.

If we get Brandon Williams it would be with a view to taking over RB slot from Coleman. He's right footed. Possibly less exciting than Lamptey and Aarons but he does defend aggressively, has that captain mentality and would be cheaper than both. He'd also cover the LB slot effectively. Would be a sensible use of money, especially considering Lamptey would probs cost circa £45m.

We need fist team ready attacking players. Pace, workrate, desire, effort with some ability to dribble, pass, cross, score a few goals. I'm not interested in defenders.

Seems like a John O'kane type buy. Nothing to suggest better then any of our own prospects.

Philip Neville was a turd for us, this guy though, is exactly what we need, if playing right-back. He gets stuck in, looks like butter wouldn't melt, would have something to prove, he's quality. From the limited times I've seen him play anyway.

Great cover and well schooled in a winning mentality. If cheap enough? Not to loan though, like, Zouma. Been there, done that.

If we're going to persist with Rodrigues playing mainly from the right then we need a right full back who is stronger defensively so maybe this would a good move.

However in my mind this weakens the team and makes us very predictable as almost every attack would then centre around Digne on the left hand side.

We need a right-back, but I would say a further midfielder with some pace and bite and a forward are greater priorities.
