Everton 'close in' on Sporting's Nunes

With Nuno Espà­rito Santo the presumptive new Everton manager, the Blues have emerged as the leading suitor for Sporting's Matheus Nunes.

The 22-year-old Brazilian has been a target for Newcastle since the January transfer window when they reportedly failed with a bid to sign him and recent reports have suggested that the Magpies will need to double their offer to secure him.

According to Record in Portugal, Espà­rito Santo's arrival at Goodison Park could be decisive in Everton winning any race to sign Nunes who is valued at between €15M and €20M.

While not a client of Jorge Mendes, the super-agent is said by Sport Witness to have a good relationship with Nunes's representatives.
