I'm watching the Rangers game now, and there has just been another perfect example of how VAR is destroying the beautiful game, imo mate.

I also think the current crop of Everton players are brain-dead to be honest.

I've never actually seen at Everton a thicker bunch of players, even the struggles of the 90's wasn't due to mental impairments but a lack of quality.

Our current defence is retarded, it either doesn't want to learn or simply can't take instructions on board.

As people have stated above, our next two homes games will be pivotal now.

Heaven forbid we finish the season without another win but draws may be good enough.

Four or five other teams are giving us every opportunity to finish above them so what can we do.

Having watched a few games today I see other teams with a plan, quicker players and decent defensive players and that isn't something I have seen from Everton for quite a while.

Every game will be a tough one as long as the present squad display the kind of inertia we have been all too familiar with since the Summer.

The lack of speed going forward wouldn't be such a problem if they all got behind the ball and made the tackles when they lose possession.

The quickest player in the squad seems to be Gray who isn't exactly lightning fast and even his appearances have been limited recently.

Wolves are playing better and are strong defensively so getting three points would need a big, big improvement from the lads.

I was hoping that Wolves would pick up a few knocks or a red card. Hopefully we can reproduce the Man City form on Sunday.

If we don't take advantage of these results then we need shooting - literally.

Brighton for me reflect most of the Premier League. Can play some decent stuff, easy on the eye, but lack the killer punch.

I agree take away the top three sides and there isn't that much between a lot of the rest, and then you've got the bottom six, who are just poor teams.

They are on 28 points and that's a reasonable cushion, you can see them getting 37 points so that'll keep them up.

Burnley and Leeds are the two that we need to watch closely.

I mentioned during the week psychologically it's a nightmare for us and a big plus for Burnley who are well used to being in this position. 3 points tomorrow is an absolute must.

Spurs' Betancourt could be a twin with Gomes, as slow, sideways passes only but I did see him win a tackle.

And if we are to be really ambitious, go and own grass roots football. The Everton in the Community concept is admirable. Take that to a footballing level and sponsor / coach local teams to bring through young players. But leave them in their natural environment until a certain age. Just give them the benefit of coaching and sponsorship from a club of Everton's stature. Sponsor local grass roots football.

I am convinced that the North West of England and Merseyside in particular is a hotbed of English footballing talent. It is out there on our doorstep. We just aren't tapping into it as much as we could and should.

But even when we do, it comes down to coaching. Look at our current manager. One of the most successful English players of his generation. Was he that great as a youngster? I would argue no, but there was potential. The difference between him and (for example) Barkely is the coaching and the attitude that was installed into him. The coaching and mentoring is so important if you want to release the potential. We put too much emphasis on it being down to the individual. It is not.

Apologies, I'm very passionate about the subject. We often blame the players, especially the young English ones. But more often it's the coaching they receive that restricts and prevents their development.
