13 starts in his first season. 2 in the next and 3 this. Since 23/2/2020 - he has started 5 games 🤦‍♂️ He also made 12 appearances as a sub. Total minutes on the pitch = 1720 = 19 full games in 3 full seasons. And like an England Cricket opener - never troubled the scorers. £8,5m plus £12,5 in salary = £21m - almost £12000 per minute on the pitch.

Sadly the gamble didn't work. Could also be City getting payback for what they paid for Jack Rodwell.

Yes, players are usually insured for wages while injured. However, insurance can be declined or have exemptions against it. That would depend on the medical and the player's history. Similar to pet insurance but bigger premiums.

Mina is another and this season he may well end up playing more games for Columbia than for us!

It usually kicks in for longer term injuries. As with any insurance the companies make their money by understanding and pooling the risk from individual payers and redistributing it across a larger portfolio in this case players and squads.

Players will have it written into their contract how long they remain on full pay when injured and the types of injury covered. Some players also take out their own income protection insurance.
