Jebbison bid knocked back

| Saturday, 27 April 2024 25comments  |  Jump to last

Everton have reportedly failed in an initial bid to sign Sheffield United striker Daniel Jebbison.

The teenager, who scored the winner for the Blades at Goodison Park earlier this year in what was a miserable result for the Blues, is wanted by a number of clubs including Sunderland, Burton and Hull but only on loan.

Everton are supposedly the only club to have made a cash offer, believed to be around £5m, for a permanent transfer but it has been rejected.

Took his goal well against us... Worth a small punt?

So wanted on loan by teams who finished 1st, 4th and 16th in the old 3rd division last year but is being signed by a Premier League team. Yeah right.

One of these teams has just taken Broadhead on loan from us while Ellis Simms is playing in the Championship when fit.

Let's not get too excited.

Yeah, this lad was on loan to Chorley last year and only got 2 games; no idea if he got an injury but, if not, then it probably suggests he's a way off featuring for us in the Premier League.

If there's any truth in it, then I guess it would be to play for the U23s for a season at least and then maybe have a loan in the Championship or something.

Can't expect every young signing from the Blades to be like Calvert-Lewin though this lad does have some similar characteristics it would seem (ie, tall but fast).

He is also being linked with Villa, Leeds and Brentford. I'm guessing he's seen as more like one for the future than the here and now.

We are back to the days of wanting everybody on the cheap.

Yes Clive. We are on rehab. Have to cleanse and restart.

Clive what's wrong with getting players on the cheap?..Dom Baines Jags and John Stones all were bought for under 5m..

Timmy Cahill also.

Joe, you can't really compare £5m now with what it got you when Baines and Jagielka came to the club.

Andrew. Fair enough that was a while ago. Dom and Stones weren't that long ago. Gray looks a steal at 1.5m. My point is.. you can pick up real bargains from outside the prem.
Just because you spend 20m doesn't guarantee success. Walcott being the prime example.

Joe 7 and 8 - and Seamus

Ian.. how did I forget Seamus.. the biggest bargain of all.

I totally agree Joe, the RS got Robertson on a free.

My point further up the thread is that he is most likely viewed as an U23 player right now so wouldn't command a huge fee and of course we should never forget that £5m has also come out of the imagination of some tabloid hack.

Wasn't Baines £6M? Anyway, that was a while ago; things and times have changed.

I don't like the look of any player we are currently linked to. We will have a couple of miserable players if their agents don't get them moves. We have too many centre-midfielders... something's gotta give. Brands has a lot to do but time is ticking.

Joe, #7, you can’t compare them with a £5m offer today. It’s been 14 years since we bought Jags and Baines and 17 since Cahill. Inflation rules.

Also Joe, there’s nothing wrong with buying cheap, but the point is that with those offers we won’t be buying. Rangers have called our offer for Patterson a joke, which it is.

Andrew, #13, Robertson’s fee for Liverpool was £8 million plus add ons. We dropped out.

Different thread Clive.. and who cares what slippy says. He's probably just annoyed that it'll be us taking his talented RB.
He'll go for 10-13 max.. that's why it's a smart opening bid from us.

I watched Sheffield United the other night on tv, and if this lad can’t get in front of their strikers, then he couldn’t hit a donkeys ass from 5 yards.

Hope you’re right Joe. We need to sign him if his potential is what some are saying. I’d preferred that we just went in and signed him a la Catterick. All this haggling is bad for the blood pressure. I’m beginning to think FFP only applies to us. Or are we just skint?

Wasn't Robertson's fee a swap for Kevin Stewart? You know him, he was next on the list for penalty takers during the 2020 Euros final

Robertson has just signed a new deal and the article states he was £10M from Hull in 2017. Didn’t mention Kevin Stewart.

Sorry, my mistake, pressed wrong button..!

One from left field if we are chasing a forward – Kiefer Moore at Cardiff City, who looked quite useful in the Euros. His style of play reminds me very much of Graeme Sharp. So, worth an enquiry and he wasn't in the Cardiff squad last night.

Would presumably be bought in order to be loaned out. Having made his league debut he seems too advanced to be an U23s player. Bit like Branthwaite, needs the challenge of a step up.

Doesn't help the first team just yet but might be a good use of a modest amount of money. Probably not worth it if the fee is high unless the scouts have seen something really special.

Give it a miss; we don't need any more development players, we need to improve the 1st team squad, we need a back-up for Dom and a right-back.
