Two forwards linked as Everton seek reinforcements

| 04/01/2023 33comments  |  Jump to last

Everton are said to be looking at Middlesbrough's Chuba Akpom and Mislav Orsic as the need for attacking additions has been laid bare in recent weeks.

The Blues were able to deploy Dominic Calvert-Lewin as a starter against Manchester City and Brighton but the striker has struggled for service while Ellis Simms was recalled from his loan at Sunderland but only came on as a substitute against Brighton last night when the Blues were dead and buried at 4-0 down.

Since joining Boro from PAOK Athens where he scored 14 times in 54 games, Akpom has notched 18 goals in 58 League appearances and is reportedly attracting interest from Everton, Crystal Palace and two clubs in Germany.

Orsic, meanwhile, looked set to join Southampton but that deal fell through today and has alerted the Toffees and Nottingham Forest.

We already have Lampard's hand-picked strike force : Dele Alli (back soon), Dwight McNeil and Neal Maupay. Surely we're not letting him get more of the same.

Can we please sack this fella.. Yes, yes and yes, the board etc.

But those players have no clue how he wants them to play from one week to the next. LAMPARD GET OUT OF MY CLUB!!

Sounds like lampards getting more time. I reckon they’ll give him Southampton and west ham.. just delaying the inevitable tbh. Jan 2022 all over again.

Why haven't we acted today? Why are we wasting time?

Because we have to sell first.

People are talking about big name managers, and Brian, has just told us why this is very unlikely to happen.

Wow, are we really scouting as far away as Middlesbrough? Brexit,eh? Or is this to avoid the problems we seem to have with work permits.

Just had a loan bid for ings turned down apparently. Safe to say the club has no scouting system.

We are wasting time, Lampard would turn Man City into an average team. Nice guy but crap manager he needs replacing NOW.

Joe @ 12, we have scouts.
Eg Brian King.
Brought a phenomenal goalscorer to the club on trial.
A guy called Erling Haaland.
After a highly successful trial spell our coaching staff got their one brain cell together and f##cked him off. With the words "others will catch him up"
Before you call for heads to roll, Big Dunc was involved in that process.
Despite protestations and anger from Mr King demanding we sign him, the fee was a few million, he was over ruled.
We went on to sign such greats as. erm and errr and hmmm.
Now we buy dross that not only have been well and truly been caught up, they are being lapped

Thanks for that info Martin 👍 kind of wish we didn’t have scouts then if that’s what happens when a talent is found 😂

Go and get Pukki from Norwich. He knows where the net is.

If this is the best we can do, then our scouting system is a joke and why we are in the position we are in.

Akpom is hitting a rare little purple patch but is not a good player. I hope we don't buy him.

Orsic is very talented - with very strong stats for Dinamo Zagreb albeit in a very weak league. He's also very much a late bloomer after spending most of his 20s in Korea, China and unheralded sides in Croatia, Slovenia and Serie B in Italy.

He plays in the same position as Gray and Gordon - very much a right footer cutting in from the left flank. Not convinced he's an upgrade on either.

He's the sort of player that would do well in Scotland. Not sure about the Premier League.

Linked with Danny Ings.

I am sure we will sign him. Pay big fee, big wages for a 30 year old not wanted by Villa.

I'd fully imagine we will sell a Pickford or Gordon to fund it.

An initial couple of goals, injury, and the loss of form follows for the next 3 seasons - with us £25m down on transfer fee and same in wages.

Coady & Gana did themselves no favours for similar reasons. Were dreadful - do we really want to pay transfer gees and enormous wages for this?

Ian@19 unfortunately a very accurate scenario, this is exactly how Everton FC has wasted 500 million. Its a shambolic way to run any business. I can't remember who posted it but it was about the recruitment and player sales at Brighton. They are a model club. But as we all know "what would Everton do"

Yes Joe, I believe Brighton's starting XI last night cost less than Iwobi. Beggars belief really.

Joe, that's where the problem lies, we wasted the 500m before Lampard arrived, I'm not defending him, but the board selling Richarlison, and Lampard not even able to pay money upfront for players, that leaves a very limited category. Ings will score goals if he gets the service, but all we can offer is a loan deal, that's the mess we're in now.

How the hell do we stay up given the shit we've got ourselves in? A striker won't fix anything if our midfield plays like yesterday, so it's either change manager or change midfield players or both.

As we clearly have no money to spend, we're therefore down to selling one or other of our saleable assets in order to buy, and/or get Dyche in to save us.

I think Villa want to keep Ings which is why they've said no to a loan deal. He scored for Villa tonight.

Akpom is fast isn't he? He'll do.

We're not creative - we'll rely on someone with pace giving defences a tough time.

As long as he is supplied Ernie and can score goals, I don't care too much. Our strikers are isolated. They are like polar bears floating on a piece of ice in the Arctic on their own looking into the distance.

I don't think pace is massively important but agree, it would help. Kane often drops deep and scores from distance. He mostly uses his strength, foresight and general all round ability to beat opponents. I don't think he relies on pace.

Teddy Sheringham was no Usain Bolt. He used his brain and footballing intelligence to beat defenders. But fed off good supply.

Linekar was fast but a poor footballer in my opinion. But he scored goals. We had to change our style of play and go more direct to accommodate that. Many lamented Lukaku's touch and non-tracking back; labelled as lazy. But he scored goals.

I'm reading Villa are willing to sell Ings but won't entertain a loan deal. Ings will get you goals, which we need right now. I like him as a player. My only concern is that his career has been blighted by injury.

All the best by the way Ernie. I hope you're well.

Nothing against ings but it shows u how blinkered this club is.

Just been talking with the better half Brian.

Good player, good striker, scored a nice goal last night.

I'm not ageist, but 30 years old and a history of injuries.

Sadly, maybe he's well suited for Everton.

That's my poor attempt at sarcasm.

Are looking at ???? WTF.

Why didnt we have anyone signed bang on the window opening ???

Typical nothingness from that bloated buffoon Jabba the Kenwright
(Aka Bill the Hutt)
He has overwatched the lack of goalscoring.
He knew our problem last season and this season. And all previous seasons.

He sold the only player who knew where the ball needed to end up, replacing him (YET AGAIN) with rejects whom he paid massively over the odds for.

So from the sale of Richarlison (knowing DLC is a crock) and the close of the transfer window, to its reopening NO ONE including Threlfall has got a single goal scoring striker lined up.
This tune has been played to death by him during his tenure.

It is the chairmans financial negligence thats crippling this club. Together with his inept dealings at everything Everton football club related.
Apart from one thing
