Everton in negotiations to land Danjuma
Everton have reportedly opened talks with Villarreal about a possible loan-to-buy deal for winger Arnaut Danjuma.
According to Spanish journalist Bruno Alemany, the Blues want the former Dutch international, initially until the end of the season, but may need to wait until the Liga club have brought in a replacement first.
Meanwhile, Michael Bridge of Sky Sports News suggests that Everton aren't the only club interested in bringing the player in this month – Nottingham Forest are also keen.
Danjuma, 26 at the end of the month, already has experience of playing in England having played 47 league games for Bournemouth before moving to Villarreal in 2021.

He is scoring at a rate of a goal every three games for the Spanish club and is also being tracked by his former boss, Unai Emery, who is now manager at Aston Villa.
Danjuma, who was born in Nigeria but has eight caps for the Netherlands was strongly linked with both West Ham and Liverpool over the summer but, if this latest report is true, Everton are hoping to secure his services during the current transfer window.

He also played 33 times in the Championship and scored 15. Haven't we got a player somewhere who has just scored 7 in 17 in the Championship, which is pretty much the same? Uninspiring to say the least and a kick in the teeth for a player who will give his all on minimal wages.
He'll provide competition for Maupay at least.

But being honest who knows what's happening aside from out going players on loan and being sold?
A Rangers mate from Glasgow, called me, this morning asking about Davies, and I said it could be the making of his playing career, again media, speculation, but he reckons there's some foundation in the story.
A couple more weeks of ifs, buts, hopes, and whys, and hopefully Everton can come out of this transfer window, with some players who can stick the ball, in the onion bag, and with genuine hope to get the points needed to stay up.
As many have stated, regards Tom Cannons loan to Preston, you'd like to think that surely something is happening with incoming players.
Surely, means nothing in football.
Hope eternal.

Pity Dan Dare wasn't still around, we keep getting linked to all these (Premiership) potential life saving players who historically haven't fulfilled their expectancy. Not their fault, I must hasten to add, I put this down to a mixture of greedy Agents, Journos seeking impact, or recognition, or downright improper research by our Scouting Network and DoF !
17 Posted 11/01/2023 at 03:52:16
Can't we do any better than this FFS!!
Clueless.

On the subject of Villa, how does everyone feel about the opportunity to resign Lucas Digne?
Villa have just announced the signing of Alex Moreno from Betis, an attack minded left-back. Surely that makes Digne available?
20 Posted 11/01/2023 at 07:40:55
I have no idea what people want from the club sometimes…
22 Posted 11/01/2023 at 08:25:25
His handful of appearances in the Prem for sinking Bournemouth were unremarkable but he was excellent in the Championship, promping Villarreal to pay a record fee for him. He's been very good for Villarreal too.
He's a very good player – similar to Richarlison (modern versatile forward rather than a striker as such) albeit without the relentless work rate.
Not sure why he's being made available (if true) but he's certainly a cut above Maupay.
23 Posted 11/01/2023 at 09:17:58
I'd love us to get him though there is a whiff of suspicion for me, why do they want to let him go on loan? Usually that is for one of three reasons a) the player is shite (this I know not to be true) b) the player has a toxic attitude / fallen out with the manager or c) they can't afford his wages anymore. Let's hope its C, I for one would be made up and it would mean there might be some beans left in the bag to sign an actual striker.

This lad is a decent player, good stats, what's the problem if we get him on loan?
I agree with you about Yates as well, a journeyman striker who is about 6 stone wringing wet and has had an okay few months. He definitely wouldn't be the answer to our goal scoring problem, he's as bang average as you can get.
27 Posted 11/01/2023 at 12:50:19
It seems like this will be a normal transfer window for us with last-minute signings before the window closes.
28 Posted 11/01/2023 at 13:03:22
Bill # 27, sadly you might be right. The club might be waiting last minute to drive the best price for one (or two) of Moffi, Wahi, Ouattara, Danjuma, Györekes, Brereton Diaz, Onuachu etc.
It would be very disappointing if we have no new signings eligible for the Saints game.

You may be right, but many find the jump from Championship to Premier League a big one and Klaassen looks good in the Champions League. I just wish we could get someone in where we don't have to keep our fingers crossed for once.
Also, our scouting department hardly inspires confidence, they would do better following the likes of Brighton's or Brentford's scouts and recommending we get the players they are watching.
33 Posted 11/01/2023 at 18:32:08
When have we ever wrapped up a transfer that quickly, apart from deadline day.
Let's be realistic, if we had a plan and knew what we were doing we'd have players signed already for Jan 1st. We don't and are scrabbling around - it's got last few days panic buys written all over it again, probably at the same time as we sack Lampard
34 Posted 11/01/2023 at 18:46:00
The REAL Boss knew the value of lower league players and I honestly believe it could be done again, even if there Journey men or coming off a serious injury,at this precise moment we're in the klartz (as Fletch used to say) and I'd try every possible fucking thing to turn our fortune's round instead of just sitting on my hands or pissing in the wind like Twiddle Dumb and Twiddle Dumber!
So yes indeed I'd try to sign...Yates,Dack and Shankland too!...two start up front (just one up top is for away games in Europe) and one on the bench along with Maupay as DCL just can't be trusted for me and it's only a matter of time before he breaks down again...sadly,even if one of my signings hits the ground running (and the other two don't) and bags us the goals to stay up...then am fucking happy,we need goals and wins fast and yes folks maybe the Danjuma lad is the answer to our prayers but somehow I doubt it...we will see on deadline day,no doubt at the last few minutes before the window closes.
Also,I would offer Connah's Quay Nomads a fucking King's ransom for their young Welsh star... Josh Williams NOW!
35 Posted 11/01/2023 at 19:06:56
Whether he hast it or not I believe if Emery is in for him he will go to Villa and he is a risky signing anyway,
Based on the absolute dross and misfits we have signed in the last few years I would love to know who assesses a players suitability for a club like Everton and what are the criteria.
37 Posted 11/01/2023 at 19:28:57
38 Posted 12/01/2023 at 08:56:21
It's like that year we just went around signing as many No 10s as was humanly possible.
It really is beyond belief. Danjuma might be a decent player (I'm not convinced myself to be honest, based on what he did at Bournemouth in the Premier League) but he is not what we need right now. It will be more money wasted which could be spent on getting the striker we need.
39 Posted 12/01/2023 at 09:02:43
It would appear from the outside looking in that they don't have a clue what they're doing.
I would have every statistical database going and be using it to search for what we need, ie, a target man, striker, No 9, what his contract situation is, likely fee etc etc. And I would have been doing this since the summer to make a move now.
They might do this, they might not… but whatever they're doing, it's not working and they need to change the process immediately. Danjuma has also been injured…
I'd push Onana forward and use him a bit like Fellaini for now. No point trying to play tiki-taka from the back, it's pointless. Get it up the pitch and get in their faces.
40 Posted 12/01/2023 at 09:20:36
As you say, we should be going direct and long with the quality of the squad right now. When the defenders have it, get rid of it with a ball for Gray to chase over the top or get it long to a target man up front for a knock-down.
At least we would be playing to our strengths more and playing in the opposition's half for a change. Good call with using Onana like Fellaini for now too.
As for recruitment and the complete failure to sign a decent, proven striker since summer – it is just a joke to me. If the fans can see it, the club must.
As you say, they should have been moving heaven and earth since summer to get at least one decent goalscorer in. Other teams manage it so I don't buy the excuses that they're looking but there's no-one who will come or is available. We could have had that lad from Blackburn if we'd have upped our bid by just a few million in summer, from what I've heard.
But then I guess other teams don't just look for Premier League cast-offs like we do or wait for agents to push players our way. Not signing a decent striker will cost us if we miss out again in January.

43 Posted 12/01/2023 at 10:29:50
Well if all reports are to be believed then it looks like we may get Elanga and even possibly Danjuma, another winger. Which would suggest that Lampard is quite happy to have DCL, Maupay or Simms as his main striker. Which considering DCLs injury record of late and Maupay,s poor goal return, and Simms who Lampard allowed to go on loan, shows me just how much out of his depth Lampard is. Every fan knows we need another main striker and have done since Richarlison was sold, and Maupay was never the answer, and I am not convinced that DCL will play enough games to make a difference.
44 Posted 12/01/2023 at 10:41:08
45 Posted 12/01/2023 at 11:04:05
Barkley can't get in the team. He came on as a sub and scored two late goals when, I believe, that the game was won. I read a couple of weeks ago that he's stunk the gaff out several times. He's lost his way, just not as spectacularly as Delle.
46 Posted 12/01/2023 at 15:04:07
If the rumours are true, then maybe we are getting the winger on loan so we can sign the much-needed striker on a permanent deal?
47 Posted 12/01/2023 at 17:10:26
48 Posted 12/01/2023 at 17:20:56
we can't rely on just a striker to score goals, and none of Gordon, McNeil or Grey are regular goalscorers. Richarlison was a 13 goals a season winger, and we had a 15 goal striker when DCL was fit
we need both, a striker as DCL can't be relied upon, and a winger cause non of who we have can be either.
saying that, I don't for a second have faith that we will sign either - especially to the standard required.

51 Posted 12/01/2023 at 18:50:25
Oh hang we will have money to spend, Chelsea are gonna bid 60 million for Gordon and Gunners gonna bid millions for DCL (of course).
52 Posted 12/01/2023 at 19:02:08
I think both Gray and Gordon do their best work on the left, so they should battle it out for that spot. Was going to say McNeil too, but I think he'd only be really useful in a 442 with two big men to aim at. Whilst we do need a big lad in up top to cover / replace DCL I'd see if McNeil could be farmed out to the continent to play regularly this month. Unless spurs or Chelsea daft enough to bid big for AG again.
Outside of RW / ST “James Maddison†type would be nice to replace/fight Iwobi, and a loaned Right back too.
Not sure the above isn't anything but wishful thinking…..but in any events I'd bring Lewis Warrington back and let Price go on loan like we did with Simms and Cannon. Got a dream that the two Birkenhead lads of Lewis and Jimmy Garner could be some axis with Onana in the mix too.
Going off for meds now.
53 Posted 12/01/2023 at 19:03:47
So maybe a striker if he wins. Then it's on to West Ham, get beat he probably will go and Moshiri will say he backed him publically, gave him two more games. A win or two we might see his preferred strikers, a midfield player. Some players sold.
If he's gone Saturday night, Moshiri loses his bottle. New manager, plus money to back him, his picks. Who? Dyche good chance.
If Chelsea sack Potter tonight, we should consider Graham Potter. Can't believe the injuries he's had, got. Not a chance in hell any manager, especially a new one can survive, win loads of games v top Premier League clubs.
I hope Fulham hammer Chelsea and Potter becomes our manager.ðŸ‘
54 Posted 12/01/2023 at 20:38:47
He's done well in France - very fast and skilful with end product too. Would be good on the right wing in a 433.

56 Posted 13/01/2023 at 04:18:37
Forget incomings. Better yet in classic Kenwright style we will sell our best player at 11.59pm on deadline day then ring fence the money as we didn't have time to reinvest and it will disappear before the next window. The only problem now is defining our best player. I'm thinking Pickford? Is there anyone else in our squad who between performance, old age or injury record could even command a fee?
57 Posted 13/01/2023 at 07:15:27
Does this mean, A) We don't have any real targets? B) We don't have a scouting system in place and depend on the goodwill of agents and journalists to give us some ideas on who to buy?
I find this hard to believe but this is Everton and anything is possible.
58 Posted 13/01/2023 at 08:04:06
There is clearly a huge disconnect between how Everton do business under the auspices of Chairman Kenwright and everyone else in the Premier League who operate in the best interests of their club.
We still haven't replaced Lukaku! It's appalling.
59 Posted 13/01/2023 at 12:27:34
I can see where you're coming from and agree we need both a striker and better wingers who contribute more in terms of goals/assists.
I would still prioritise a decent striker myself first though as we have created chances in most games but wasted them. With a few of those converted, we might be higher up the table. We also have very limited options up top and desperately need urgent reinforcements there compared to out wide for me.
As Steve @46 says, maybe we will get one on loan and one on a permanent deal which solves both issues.
60 Posted 13/01/2023 at 23:53:18
Ouest France are also reporting that Leicester are interested too and the fee could end up being as much as €25m.
Played all 17 Ligue 1 games so far - 6 goals, 6 assists.
Can play anywhere across the front.

It seems clear there's genuine interest in the limited pool of players who might move in January:
Wahi
Moffi
Brereton Diaz
Gyökeres
Onuachu
Ouattara
Danjuma
Etc etc
We're not the only club interested in each case, however, and we don't have enough money to outbid and seal a deal quickly (or pay up front). We're probably having to wait for the final moments of the window for a selling club to agree to our not very attractive terms.
