Jarrad Branthwaite has been included along with Jordan Pickford in Gareth Southgate’s 33-man England provisional squad ahead of Euro 2024 in Germany next month.
Branthwaite’s selection comes as just reward for a remarkable season of excellent defensive displays from the young defender in what was his first full season in the Premier League.
He was called up during the last international break of the season but was, somewhat surprisingly, left as an unused substitute by Southgate.
This 33-man selection, which also includes former Everton forward Anthony Gordon, will be whittled down to 26 following the friendlies against Bosnia-Herzegovina and Iceland on 3 and 7 June.
Among those not selected are Marcus Rashford, Jordan Henderson, Reece James, Ben Chilwell, Dominic Solanke, Eric Dier, Jadon Sancho, Raheem Sterling and Ben White.
