A sense of déjà vu

29/09/2024

I thought it was so similar to the 3-2 win over them a couple of years ago; our first half was dreadful but we then came on strong after the break, scored the goals we needed, then shut up shop.

Full backs for the future

28/09/2024

Whilst we’ve been good in spells this season (the points tally is lower than we deserve), we should be better.  What would make all the difference?  Good full-back play, that’s what.

McNeil stars as Everton hold their nerve to finally win

28/09/2024

Everton registered their first Premier League victory of the season at the sixth time of asking thanks to a fabulous brace by Dwight McNeil that turned this match on its head and transformed the mood inside Goodison Park.

Suggestions Please

27/09/2024

The old Class 57 Merseyrail trains are no longer, replaced by the shiny new Class 777s. But some railway fans decided to buy one rather than see them all go for scrap. Being the sentimental fool that I am, I made a donation. But mine was enough to have a message/dedication embroidered into one of […]

We need to talk about Kevin: a defence of the DoF

26/09/2024

When the Friedkins take the helm, hopefully later this year, the impending expiration of Kevin Thelwell's contract will be one of the matters in their in-tray. An argument that he has at least laid the foundations on which we can hope to build a better future.

Size Matters

26/09/2024

The Friedkin Group's millions will be welcomed. But money isn't what Everton need from them the most.

In Pursuit of the Dream

26/09/2024

Too many teams are trying to develop the "expansive", possession-based style embodied by Pep Guardiola's Manchester City where there is merit in a more combative, front-foot style that is attacking but not dull to watch

Dyche takes the positives from Leicester draw

22/09/2024

Sean Dyche described yesterday’s 1-1 draw at Leicester as a “mini-step” despite the fact his side gave up yet another lead and are still awaiting their first league win of the season.

Wardrobe Malfunction

22/09/2024

That last 10 minutes were nerve-wracking to the extreme, so it’s a positive we showed good resilience to hold on.

So Close… It’s Coming

22/09/2024

We could have and should have won that. But we’re off the mark and have a point. In different circumstances, an away point would be welcome.

Mike Walker: Victim?

21/09/2024

Funny how the old memory cheats you but I was comparing this season with Mike Walker’s short spell as Everton manager back in 1994, thinking we’d started that with more consecutive losses. But no – we started with a draw then drew with mighty Arsenal then Norwich before Walker was sacked. He famously claimed he’d […]

Kevin Thelwell: “Stick with us”

20/09/2024

Everton's director of football, Kevin Thelwell, has asked supporters for their patience and their backing as Sean Dyche and his staff try and turn the team's form around following a horrendous start to the season.

Bring me Roberto Martinez!

20/09/2024

Let me start by saying I despise Sean Dyche as a manager. I said it before he arrived — he isn’t good enough for this club and he has achieved nothing to suggest he deserves to manage Everton. He has no credit in any bank with me.  I have a little more respect for David […]

Everton will travel to the King Power Stadium this weekend for what is an important fixture despite how early it is in the season but Sean Dyche’s squad continues to be stretched.
