It's a season that has been split into two halves thus far in terms of form for Everton. The month of August was seemingly a success for Everton with positive results on the pitch and exciting incomings to the first-team squad.

On the other hand, the month of September, since the return after the first international break of the season, has seen a run of indifferent results for the Toffees, with just two points picked up in three league games and an exit from the Carabao Cup at the third-round stage against Wolverhampton Wanderers.

On the pitch, something that has been relatively consistent is Everton’s starting XI with only really the left back position being alternated in the opening six league games. Everton’s first choice left back Vitalii Mykolenko has only started three league games so far this term, with midfielder James Garner filling in for the other three games due to the Ukrainian’s absence through injury.

However, every other position has pretty much been unchanged, and six players have played every Premier League minute available so far. One of those players is summer signing Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall, who has had an impressive start to his Everton career.

However, the 27-year-old will be unavailable for Sunday’s match against Crystal Palace through suspension, having picked up his fifth yellow card in six games. This now leaves David Moyes in a precarious position of having to fill that role behind the lone striker and this report will look at two players who could come in and make an impact in ‘KDH’s’ absence.

Charly Alcaraz

A player who has had a seemingly indifferent start to the campaign, having joined on a permanent deal from Flamengo in the summer after spending the second half of last season on loan.

Alcaraz started the Toffees’ league opener away to Leeds United but has since only made three substitute appearances in the last five games, featuring for a total of 32 minutes. However, the Argentinian did start and score the opener in Everton’s second round victory in the Carabao Cup against Mansfield Town back in August, so the 22-year-old has already registered a goal contribution so far this season.

Overall, Alcaraz would seem like the like-for-like replacement for Dewsbury-Hall due to his preferred position being in the number 10 role, and you would expect that having already started him in games this season, the manager may favour his first signing back at Everton come Sunday.

Tyler Dibling

Tyler Dibling is, from a supporter's point of view, the preferred choice to come in and replace Dewsbury-Hall in this game. Having arrived late in the summer, the teenager carries a lot of expectation due to his price tag and a breakthrough campaign in the Premier League last season.

So far this season, he has four appearances in all competitions for the Toffees and made his first start in Everton’s 2-0 defeat against Wolves in the Carabao Cup at the end of September. In the league so far, Dibling has only featured in a total of 13 minutes across two substitute appearances in the last two league games.

You would say that the number 10 role isn’t the 19-year-old's preferred position, but is a position that Everton’s current wide men in Jack Grealish & Iliman Ndiaye, can feature in.

Also, since Grealish can’t feature in Everton’s next league game away to Manchester City, his parent club, someone would have to come into the starting XI for at least the next two games and with Ndiaye set to head to the African Cup of Nations with Senegal in December.

This could be the perfect opportunity for Dibling to make his mark and prove his worth ahead of a period in which game time will become much more likely than it has been so far.
