Senegal 2 - 0 Peru

The Senegal team paraded the Africa Cup of Nations trophy before Saturday's friendly match against Peru at Stade de France.

This was in defiance of the controversial decision by Caf to strip them of the title earlier this month. Senegal have lodged an appeal with the Court of Arbitration for Sport (Cas), which has said it will rule on the matter "as swiftly as possible".

Before the match against Peru, captain Kalidou Koulibaly and his team-mates, including Idrissa Gana Gueye, but not Iliman Ndiaye, entered the pitch with the Afcon trophy for a lap of honour, before Koulibaly and goalkeeper Edouard Mendy went up to the stadium's presidential box to place the trophy there.

Senegal also played in a kit with two stars above their badge to signify having won two Afcon titles -- the disputed 2025 tournament and their previous 2021 title.

Iliman Ndiaye missed the game due to a foot injury. Ndiaye sustained the injury while playing for Everton during the 3-0 win against Chelsea last weekend. While he initially traveled to join the national squad in France, the medical staff determined he was experiencing significant discomfort that made him unavailable for selection.

He has been ruled out for both of Senegal’s friendlies this window, meaning he will also miss the upcoming match against Gambia on 31 March.

Enjoy your stolen moment in the sun boys. You will not have that trophy soon, and that is exactly how it ought to be.

Sort of strange to see you walk around the pitch rather than off it.

Although I do wish that AFCON made the right decision, which for me would have been not to award the trophy at all, though I suppose that that would have been hard on Morrocco.

Any word of Ndiaye’s foot injury?
